Re: Mazda3 - automatic vs manual [mjgee]
by zzoomp09 on Fri May 25 23:43:49 PDT 2007
I haven't driven the automatic enough to compare with the manual's fuel economy and I have a manual 2.3 hatch, but the manual is performing better than I expected. If there's snow, at first, if you're not used to or haven't driven a manual in a while, you'll have a hard time getting out of a few inches of snow. But as the winter progressed, I was able to get a handle of the car and got used to how it drives in the snow, and get out of snow piles. It definitely has the zoom-zoom performance in bumper to bumper traffic. I've accelerated this car at more than 5500RPM's in the 1st and 2nd gears and it just zips through almost everything!

The good thing that came out of it was the area became the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area which is quite beautiful. You would not believe you're maybe an hour from New York City. Have seen it and would agree. There are many beautiful parts of New Jersey away from Newark area. Jersey gets a bad rap from comedians who probably never venture beyond the NY/Newark area. Just like GM today, Jersey "Gets no respect".

Boy, there's an old memory! My pet snail darter really enjoyed it.... We had a crazy one in Jersey years back called the Tocks Island dam. Would have created a 37 mile long lake between NJ and Pennsylvania in the Delaware River. They started the idea in 1955 and I don't think it was officially dead until the early90s but by then they had emptied out almost whole townships (one of them last i looked had 5 people left). The good thing that came out of it was the area became the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area which is quite beautiful. You would not believe you're maybe an hour from New York City.
Camry XLE V6 MPG
by djm2 on Tue Nov 04 03:06:21 PST 2008
Good Morning All: Monday I traveled from Nothern New Jersey to the Philadelphia Airport, and then to Atlantic City, and then back home to Northern New Jersey. I averaged 31.9 MPG using 87 no-name fuel, and traveling at an average of 65mph. The vehicle performed GREAT! ---- At one point in the trip to Philadelphia, I had to move into the left hand lanes to go over the birdge and I pressed hard on the accelerator and the transmission down shifted smoothly and the vehicle accelerated like a rocket! I went from 65 to 80 in a second. The "up-shift" was equally as smooth! I would purchase another V6 Camry. My vehicle is 22 months old, and I have 37,000 + miles on it at the present time! ---- (I never had to have any warranty work performed on this vehicle!) ---- By this time next year, I will probably have between 88,000 to 90,000 miles! I will be looking at either a 2009 / 10 Camry, a Honda Accord or a Chevrolet Impala as a replacement vehicle. (My Camry is under warranty untill 100,000 miles, so as such, I will have 10,000 miles to find a replacement vehicle.) The Camry has Michelin tires. (The vehicle came with Bridgestone Tires, but I would not accept delivery until the dealer switched the Bridgestone for Michelin tires.) ----- I would not own a vehicle with either Firestone of Bridgestone tires. They are an accident looking for a place to happen! NOTE: The Buffet at Atlantic City was "GREAT"! Best regards to all! ------------------- Dwayne :shades: ;) :)
