Re: Deleted colors [rvoth]

Hi, rvoth, regarding your decision between Laser blue or Cardinal red paint. I have seen the Orange near my mid-west hometown on several different vehicles for different years. I like the oranges. They really stand out against everything else except the yellows. As to Laser blue, my `05 Chevy Equinox LT is in Laser blue metallic. When the full sun hits the carwashed machine it radiates a purple glow and generates comments of how pretty it is and is it new? :D What color did you finally get on your new `09 HHR? Daddysangel

In many respects the Prius/Jetta TDI is an apples to oranges comparison. This is NOT to say a comparo can not be made! Indeed for example, the closer comparos would be Jettas TDI/gasser . Civic gasser/hybrid/TDI. Prius' gasser/hybrid. . Toyota has wisely stayed away from Prius' direct gasser/hybrid comparo's as the premium is really not worth the so called "advantages". So for example between a Toyota Corolla TDI/gasser- a no brainer is the TDI! Civic gasser/hybrid comparos, history says the Civic Hybrid BOMBED !!! This is despite the fact it is a very good hybrid! and car. Lots of reasons, but the major one is Civic had a gasser to compare it against. Prius as I have indicated did/does NOT. Given your 30,000 to 50,000 miles per year would you rather get 38 mpg or 56 mpg with a (1,000) premium ? The BE is easily less than the first year (given your mileage) It is 1,316 gals vs 893 gals= 423 gals x 4=$1,692. The 03 Jetta TDI premium over the 1.8T was $246. as I remembered. The fuel mileage was 50 mpg vs 30 mpg. Over 25,000 miles for 4 years consumption was 1000 gals vs 3333 gals. I would guess in your cost effectiveness thinking, burning 3333 gals when 2,000 gals will do; makes economic sense. To boot the 1.8T requires premium. :lemon:
Fit Prices Paid
by fitisgo on Thu Aug 14 19:16:32 PDT 2008
I have bought 3 new 2008 Fit Sport Automatics since December of 2007. The MSRP on each car was the same, $16,705. All were purchased cash (no financing) and no trade-in. The first one (blaze orange) was bought in Lincoln, NE, in Dec of 2007 for $16,322 and no documentation fee, or $200 over Honda's generally recognized "invoice" cost for this car of $16,122. The second (milano red) was bought in Omaha, NE in Mar of 2008 for $16,167. or $45 over invoice, again no documentation or other added fees (except for state sales tax, license, registration, the items you pretty much have to pay in any state). The third (vivid blue) was bought in Lincoln in June 2008, same dealer as the first, for $16,122, or invoice, no doc fees or add-on. In each case I paid anywhere from $383 to $583 UNDER "invoice" (who knows how much the dealers actually pay Honda for the vehicle). The moral of the story is that it is possible to get a good deal on a new Fit, but your chances of doing that appear to be greatly swayed by where you live in the country. It appears Fits are selling for anywhere from MSRP to way higher on both the West and East coasts, due to demand greatly exceeding supply. So if you can buy a Fit in the Midwest (or possibly the Southeast or Southwest) for $500-$2,000 less, it might be worth it to locate and close a deal on a Fit with a Midwest dealer and then go pick up the car there (depending on how far you have to travel). The dealers I bought from were Williamson Honda (Lincoln, NE) and O'Daniel Honda (Omaha, NE) Also, due to the high demand/low supply current situation with Fits, the Kelley Blue Book private party values have shot way up in the last couple months, and are currently $1000-2000 MORE for a like-new used Fit than a brand new one bought from a dealer - go figure.

VW/BMW/ MB etc, are truly CARS as opposed to the appliance mentality Honda and Toyota , etc has taken. I truly do not mean this perjoratively, as I own or have owned ALL of the above categories. A no brainer is if one wants an appliance, stay away from ANYTHING that is NOT on the short list of Japanese oems!!! Like you, I do not treat the Honda/Toyota like appliances and they are just as reliable as the VW: some would say vice versa. While this is apples to oranges, I have had to change drive belts (A/C, starter alternator) at 90-91k on all 4/5 Toyota Landcruisers. (the 5th one I sold @ 55,000 miles) ALL were @ some stage of FRAYED. So I will be able to say @ 500,000 miles to see if any of the next 4 belts got frayed on the TDI. This was not so for the serpentine and timing belt for the VW TDI.
My Fit is in
by richardb52 on Wed Jul 30 19:47:40 PDT 2008
I just got the call from the dealership that my orange MT sport just arrived. I am paying MSRP plus $670 destination charge plus of course NY state taxes and license and registration fees. I ordered it May 22 and here it is 9 weeks later. I can't believe they charge the west coast more than the east coast when all the FITs come to the west coast from Japan. I already have a new XM radio for it and will be ordering some all weather mats, Dead Pedal and Jazz OEM armrest soon. I am really looking forward to outfitting my fit. Let the fun begin.

go to west/south orange county. much, much more competitive rates. i suggest elmore toyota. they're a no-fuss dealership. i just walked in, asked how much a camry v4 was OTD, and they gave the price 20.5k. told them another dealer was offering 20.1k, so they decided to do that price instead. don't buy the alarm for 1k, and they should give you free oil changes for two years. for a V6, ask for 22k OTD. honestly you should have gone at 4th of july/memorial day sale. people are off work so there's more customers on the lots so the salesman will want to get business done as fast and efficiently as possible.
