Re: About the same in Boise [gagrice]

Sounds like Winnemucca. McDermitt - Winnemucca has one friendly station on Highway 95 on the edge of town that's $3.09. All the stations off the I-80 exits in town are about $3.20 ish. Well, the people at McDermitt are real friendly too, just a bit pricey. We decided to take the Subaru at the last minute due to the snowy forecast since the tires on it are lots better in the wet than the minivan. And the gauge read full, but the tank really wasn't all that full when we left town.

"Do we have roads in the US that would allow us to taste . . ." Not legally (surprise, surprise), but those of us who live in the West & have access to Nevada, eastern Oregon, New Mexico & a number of other areas that can be run on the cruise control at well over 100 mph, so long as the vehicle is able & the driver is willing. If you're interested in learning where the speed limiter cuts it, that's doable as well. Paid-up life insurance is a good idea, but fun can still be had. My top memories are a Sunday morning on US 60 in New Mexico & a couple of early morning runs coming from Oregon into Nevada, with breakfast in Winnemucca. No traffic, smooth road, no animals, high speed. . .joy. Those who drive vehicles like this east of the Mississippi do it for reasons different from those of us who get to exercise them out here, I think, but what do I know? Eat your hearts out. :P

Yes, but you still have to be reasonably careful. However, it's far from the most desolate road in America, and I prefer several others. There are a couple of N-S roads in Nevada that have both fewer towns & less traffic. They aren't U.S. highways, though, and I think where the name was first coined -- the state & county roads are definitely emptier. Two of my personal favourites are state 140 between Lakeview, OR, and Winnemucca, NV. There's a bit of it on US95, but the rest is through the wide-open spaces. The other is NV266 & CA168 between Lida Junction, NV, (turn left at the whorehouse) and Big Pine, CA. Lots of good curves and undulating pavement on this one. You still have to pay attention -- shouldn't go ridiculous speeds when there's oncoming traffic, that sort of thing. If someone comes up behind you, slow down & let them pass. The good news is that these are rare occasions.
I have P0481 Cooling Fan Relay 2 Control Circuit malfunction
by werdnlr on Sun Dec 18 20:18:12 PST 2005
After a small frontend wreck, and a new radiator ect. put in I had a Service Engine soon light on. I had a mechanic check the code and it was P0481 Cooling Fan Relay 2 Control Circuit malfunction. How do I get it fixed and is it expensive. 2nd ? - Right after I bought the RDV I had a click in the steering wheel, took it to the dealer and they replaced the entire steering column, has anyone else experienced this? Thanks Dale :confuse:
Finally a real trip!

I recently returned from a 4035 mile driving vacation to and from central Texas stopping at Santa Rosa, NM; Flagstaff, AZ; Las Vegas, NV; Ukiah, CA (100 miles north of San Francisco); Winnemucca, NV; Provo, UT; Durango, CO and Albuquerque, NM. This involved driving through mountains ranges (8000 ft. elev.) and deserts (with temp. as high as 116 degrees) as well as more "ordinary" terrain. I began with the odometer at 5873 and ended with it at 9908, having stopped for "10,000 mile service" in Albuquerque at 9400. Overall mileage for the total trip, which included nearly week long stays and "city" driving at two locations, was 32.6 mpg. Mileage for those days involving almost entirely highway driving ranged from a low of 31.8 to a high of 38.1 mpg and averaged 33.9 mpg. So a typical highway drive was around 34 mpg. The car responded well under all conditions and never hesitated to maintain constant highway speed when climbing mountains. I continue to be more than pleased with this exellent car!
