Re: 2009 Murano SL AWD Price Paid [j_black22]

Just got back with the new 2009 Murano I bought for my wife. We looked at the Ford Edge and the Acura MDX before deciding on the Murano. It feels much more luxurious than the Edge (and the ride is much better) and conveys similar luxury as the MDX at a lot less $$$$, while being more agile. I think we got a rather good deal from a dealer in Queens, NY: - Silver/Black SL AWD with 0% financing for 36mos - Premium Package, Splash Guards and Custom Mats - $27,650 including destination (no other dealer fees, tax/title/reg. extra). MSRP on the sticker was $32,045. Dealers must be hurting in the NYC area, the Acura dealership offered us $7,000 off the sticker price for a new 2008 MDX w/ Technology package. I would have taken it but my wife thought the car was too big and sluggish and she didn't want leather seats (came standard on the MDX). I'm glad she didn't want it; I feel much better about purchasing the Murano. We visited the Nissan dealer in Manhattan first and they offered us an '09 SL AWD w/ just roof rails and no other option installed for $26,240 (incl. destination). We realized that the Premium Package offers a lot more for just $1K add'l (e.g. Bose, RearView Camera, Autodim mirror w/ compass, HomeLink) and includes roof rails. They didn't have it readily available so we searched dealer inventory online and found this dealer in Queens who won our business.

I miss living downtown but my wife likes being out on the edge where we are now better. We'd both love to live in Manhattan for a year, but we aren't ready to liquidate our retirement saving to do so. I'm in sort of a similar situation. Looking out of my house, you'd think I was out in the middle of nowhere, and with 4+ acres, I'm not hemmed in. But if I really want to I can be in DC in about 15 minutes, Annapolis in 20 or so, or Baltimore in a half-hour, if traffic cooperates.

some people who are just suited to a city life One of my wife's relatives has always lived the city life and never has owned a car. Doesn't even drive period. Lived in San Diego (and got all over the huge county), Oakland, Seattle, etc. Hard to imagine how much wasn't spent over a few decades just on gas, not to mention insurance, repairs, parking and interest. My sister had one of those DC townhouses in Alexandria for a while before she moved way out in the sticks on her acre. She liked it a lot, but likes her rural place too. She does a lot of driving - has to go 1/2 mile just to take out her trash. She's thinking of going back to a condo now, though I can't really see her without a car. She's retired so the high gas prices really cramped her driving. I miss living downtown but my wife likes being out on the edge where we are now better. We'd both love to live in Manhattan for a year, but we aren't ready to liquidate our retirement saving to do so.

"The hardships of city living and the crowded conditions are the very reason we have urban sprawl and suburbia today." Until you're an empty-nester and it's now convenient to ditch the McMansion (that use to be productive farmland) and that better school district to become urbane mature hipsters.... Once again. Funny how we change our opinion about fuel consumption and the environment once "Zachary" or "Emma" (Are those the new must have names?) are out of the picture and we don't have to worry about the school district, yuppie-larvae protecting SUV's or "Stranger Danger" anymore. If you want to operate a vehicle in NYC, especially Manhattan and not have any increased cost for it is ridiculous. If you dump the McMansion be prepared to dump the SUV too or pay for it.... It's not needed anymore.

Better unload those Manhattan penthouses while they still have some value. Only the rich will be able to live in NYC. Then I ask myself why would anyone with money live in ANY big City? $10 gas would not get me into a city. The hardships of city living and the crowded conditions are the very reason we have urban sprawl and suburbia today. And in our area it is why companies and shopping moved out of the city as well.

MTA To Toll All East River Bridges NEW YORK (CBS) ― Believe it or not, there is even grimmer budget news. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is swimming in a sea of red ink and sources tell CBS 2 HD drivers in the city might not like the bailout plan. Nearly half a million cars go back and forth over the Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg and 59th Street bridges every day for free. Some people think that's not right. "We already have tolls at the Battery Tunnel, Midtown Tunnel, the Triborough Bridge let's put pricing on all of the crossings in between," said Sam Schwartz, one of the leading transportation engineers in the country. Guess what? State and city officials now seem to agree. Sources tell CBS 2 HD that putting tolls on some or all of the East River bridges is part of the bailout plan being considered for the MTA. "People coming into the city should be paying for some of the service they get," Schwartz said. Better unload those Manhattan penthouses while they still have some value. Only the rich will be able to live in NYC. Then I ask myself why would anyone with money live in ANY big City? $10 gas would not get me into a city.
