535i vs. 550i
by tx_buzzard on Sat Nov 03 06:42:58 PDT 2007
I am looking at both the 535i & 550i. The stats for the new 353i are impressive, but am wondering at what point will the turbos need work... and what kind of $ that might be. I have also heard maintainence on the V8 can get pretty steep after 100K. Anyone have experience with high milage on the V8 and required maintainence? What are your thoughts on the twin turbo... would you invest before thay are proven? I never really cared for the 3ers, as I felt they where a bit plain and too small... but this new 335i convertible is absolutly beattiful and is dressed up more than the other 3s!

I've been the Death Valley tester staying in the cheap motel in Beatty, Nevada (the best one is a Motel 6). The days can be long, but I always got my 8 hours. The heat is the worst part - especially if you are doing hot-soak air conditioner tests: soak a black car in the summer sun a Furnace Creek for an hour, jump in wearing long sleeves and long pants, keep the windows up and start driving immediately with the fan on high blowing really hot air in your face for the next ten minutes. Good times. And there are, of course, spy photographers to elude and civilian vehicles "in your way" as you try to drive a preset pattern. I've seen a lot of crews for other companies with laptops rigged up for the driver to fiddle with while driving that pattern. Another factor besides Aussie jet lag to consider here is the fact that they drive on the "wrong" side of the road down there. Add a little fatigue with a trafficless two-lane and it's possible to imagine someone drifting onto the wrong side of the road. Dan

moo...as always Cuckoos Nest, the movie, diverged quite a bit from the book...where the Indian was the central character. Great book (I love Kesey's work). Great movie. I love John Irvings books, too. They've tried to translate them to film, but somehow can't quite pull it off. Reds is a somewhat non-fictional account of the thwarted socialist movement in this country early last century. Long movie. You, being a literary scholar, will appreciate it. I'm not a big Beatty fan either. He did a great job with this filmm though...writing, directing and starring in it.

Reds (best thing Nicholson and Beatty ever did) Saying something that Beatty did isn't saying much. Gotta have a John Wayne movie in there..... If you want Wayne what about The man Who Shot Liberty Valance The Shootest The Angel and the Badman and the John ford Cavalry trilogy of : Fort Apache She Wore a Yellow Ribbon Rio Grande

Making me take a mental inventory of movies I've enjoyed, but have not seen in awhile. Ones that I'm going to break out and watch again..... Reds (best thing Nicholson and Beatty ever did) One Flew Over the Cuckoos nest (speaking of Nicholson) Once Upon a Time in America A Beautiful Mind Good Will Hunting Ragtime Gotta have a John Wayne movie in there..... Rio Bravo Count me as one of the people who really don't care all that much about CK. I've seen it. Regardless of it's alleged artistic statement, I just don't care all that much about it.

Both Sorell Brooke and Denver Pyle, (Uncle Jessie) were in the classic 1967 film "Bonnie and Clyde." Sorell Brooke played CW's father and Denver Pyle played a Texas Ranger who was cast adrift in a rowboat by Bonnie and Clyde played by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.
