Replacement Tire Suggestions for a Prius
by rpaley on Fri Dec 28 19:55:38 PST 2007
Hello all, hopefully someone can recommend replacement tires for this wonderful (2004) car. I have about 34-35K miles on the original "Integrity - 185/65 R15s. As I wrote above, I have not liked this tire. It is very noisy on highways, and at 35/33# of air pressure, it gives a pretty hard ride on local, bumpy streets. Yesterday I called up my Toyota dealer and was surprised to learn that they the Prius comes with either a 185/65 R15 OR a 195/65 R15 tire. Perhaps the 195/65 is what some have written as the "Touring" tire. Here are my questions: 1) can I put either sized tire on my same (original) rims? 2) does either size cause a noticeable change in mpg, or noise? 3) my research (Consumer Reports + various tire sites on the web)seems to indicate that the Yokohama AVID H4 and the Michilin Pilot EXALTO A/5 tires were the best overall (particularly in wet and dry traction, rolling resistance and noise
Re: Unexpectedly Low Prius Gas Mileage [pathstar1]
by rpaley on Fri Dec 28 16:33:56 PST 2007
I am really surprised that so many words and so much concern are STILL being expressed regarding mileage. I have a 2004 with about 34,000 miles on it; I live in MD, just outside of the beltway around D.C.,I am not a particularly gentle driver, and here are my experiences: (first, remember that some or all areas of US must change gasolene reformulation for winter and summer conditions - this in turn changes the mpg measurably). I routinely keep the tires at 35 and 33, whatever is stated on the door jamb plate. Where and how I drive happens to fall into 2 distinct categories: o about 1/3 was at high speed on highways with speed limits of 55 & 65, where I drove about 9 mph over the speed limit, with the air conditioner on most of the time, and the windows closed; the car had 300 pounds of passengers and about the same in luggage; the time of year were generally NOT in the winter, but were in the other 3 seasons. - I routinely got between 49 & 51 mpg based on hand calculations. I was and continue to be very pleased. o about 2/3 of my driving was what many people wrote to be the worst conditions - short drives of 5 - 15 minutes(maybe up to 30 or 45 minutes, but rarely more), in traffic, stop lights, etc. - here I get around 43 [winter] and 46 [non-winter] mpg. All in all, I am very pleased. The only two complaints I have are: o it is frustrating filling up the gas tank fully - I find that once the auto pump stops the first time, it helps to rock the car back and forth a few times, then fill it up another 1/2 to 1 gal more; and o the car (I think it is the tires) is quite noisy at highway speeds, to the point of needing to turn up the radio/CD player quite high in order to hear them. When I get new tires I will look for quieter ones. Enjoy the car and don't sweat the gpm so much. :) :)
Re: Popular color for Porsche Carrera [asi12]

There is a lot of speculation about color and resale value. I have a 2005 911S Cab in Seal Grey that I bought off the lot in Spetember, 2005 at a great deal ($10k off). My preference at that time would have been Speed Yellow and, in fact, the next spring I ordered a 2006 through the dealer that I then decided not to take when a deal to sell my 2005 fell through. The dealer kept the Speed Yellow on their lot for about 6-8 weeks, longer than most other colors at the time, but then it sold for near MSRP (vs. the $8k off I had negotiated) to someone that had it shipped to Arizona. There were only about 3-5 new Speed Yellow 911S Cabs in the country at the time, vs. probably hundreds of gray, silver or black ones. IMO, my seal gray will be easier to sell than speed yellow, but on the other hand, I won't get much value for some of the $13k in options on the car. The biggest color danger is in the interior cusomization. Before I ordered that Speed Yellow, I saw one that had gone overboard with yellow guages, yellow seat stitching, yellow seat belts, yellow center console. You needed sunglasses driving at night. I've seen some other interior color combos that only the original bipolar owner could love. But short of those, I think you can be pretty safe going with almost any exterior color and keeping the option list under control.
DC Area - 08 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES and Nav
by willie374 on Tue Sep 02 09:45:48 PDT 2008
Just bought an 08 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES and Nav (Silver Pearl Metallic) from Herson Honda in Rockville, MD for $30,400 OTD. This includes $880 (3%) Virginia Tax, $670 for destination, $100 for processing, $94 for tags, and $260 for cross bars on the roof rack. Sport Honda in Silver Spring, MD gave me the same deal, but didn't have the Silver my wife wanted. I started by emailing 15 dealers, and only 3 (including Herson and Sport) responded with the detailed price and color options I requested. I hammered out the whole detail via email on Fri and picked up the car on Sat. Couldn't have been easier.

Hope I can get a deal.
Hyundai Buying experience @ Courtesy Hyundai

Just to touch on the highlights, I traded my 2004 Santa Fe GLS 2.7L silver exterior gray interior w/54,000 miles options include sunroof, fog lights, heated side mirrors in good condition w/$10,000 left to payoff. Took advantage of the end of model year sale and got a 2008 Santa Fe GLS 2.7L XM radio deepwater blue exterior beige interior w/22 miles on it options include popular package, floor mats, and mud guards. I know no sunroof, I bought my '04 Santa Fe used and had it for 2 years, thought I would love the sunroof but here in GA where you have pollen in the spring, humidity in the summer, and too cold in the winter I rarely used it. Also I was able to remove a dealer mark up off the price, ressisting all coating what ever that is, price at $399 MSRP $23,960 Manufacturer rebate $2,500 Dealer cash $1,500 Trade value $7,500 Down payment $4,000 With taxes and fees out the door $18857.05 My bank offers financing @ 4.75% which is sweet, monthy payment is $302 What you guys think, is this a deal or could i have gotten more
