Re: Swap jag v12 into AMC EAGLE [somedai1]
by Mr_Shiftright on Fri May 30 09:14:19 PDT 2008
The Eagle is such a foul-handling, clunky car that I think putting a lot of power into it before re-working the chassis *considerably* will result in a very disappointing vehicle. The Eagle is really a truck and should be approached more like one would build say an off-road competition vehicle for the Baja or something. Putting a huge powerplant in the front end would be disastrous I think, to say nothing of the spotty reliability of a Jaguar V12. A hot small turbo motor would work a lot better, IMO, preferably Japanese with no Chrysler overtones. Also the Eagle had a pretty anemic motor, so I don't know how much power the stock drivetrain can stand. I'd build it simple and rugged, to suit the vehicle you have selected. Mating sophistication with the primitive is more like a street rod, which is "show", not "go". That's why I was suggesting a good chassis overhaul before you even think about motors, unless of course this vehicle is to be trailered around. If it's all for show, you can do whatever you want, because the eyeball value is the goal, right? Visiting Host and his two cents :P
Re: nsx [dcastaneda]

From one of the car web sites: Last we heard Acura designers still couldn’t decide on the look for the next-generation Acura NSX supercar. According to AutoCar, Honda has finished worked on the new NSX and sources say that the front-engined V10 supercar will be unveiled at next year’s Tokyo Auto Show. Sources have told AutoCar that the fugly looks of the NSX concept have been completely redesigned since it’s debut at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. “It now has Chevrolet Corvette overtones,” sources say. Power is still to come from a 4.5 liter V10 engine that produces around 550-hp, enough to take on the Nissan GT-R. Sources at Honda have confirmed that the rear-wheel-drive platform of the NSX will spawn a new range of sports cars with Acura badges on them. Honda will also switch to rear-wheel-drive for its large sedans including the RL and TL. While the RL may eventually go to a RWD platform I doubt it will get the NSX engine. This new V10 will probably be saved for some new un-announced full size offering.
Re: My ignorance - coupe vs. sedan? [kdshapiro]
by habitat1 on Tue Apr 15 11:08:41 PDT 2008
Talking about back-ends, the back-end of the couple looks better than the sedan. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I'll admit, the picture posted by fedlawman of the coupe looks decent enough - until you realize that it's taken from about a kneecap level view perspective. (See if you can even maintain your balance, getting low enough to see the front passenger tire from behind left rear of the car). As my wife says, I look like a younger Robert Redford from the right distance - about 10 miles. The Mazda 9 might not have been the right analogy, but the new 3 series coupes I've seen on the road or parked definitely appear to me to have a Japanese overtone, compared to the sedan. To each their own. It's still the best performing sedan/coupe in the class.

Ah, long lost recipes. An elderly couple lived next to us when I was growing up and when I didn't like the peas and tomatoes my mom was dishing up, I'd go next door and see what they were serving. Often I'd wind up with some wonderful fresh cookies. We moved and they died before I could track down the recipe from them or their grown kids. They were sort of like a molasses cookie but not really. Softish but with a little crunch on the edges and a nice brown color, and no ginger or allspice overtones of a normal molasses cookie. The family was named Polsgrove so perhaps the cookie recipe was handed down from the Rhine area of SW Germany. I'd recognize the smell in an instant even though it's been about 45 years for me too since I had one. I guess I need to go visit a bunch of Heidelberg bakeries.

'Obsession' maybe? Trouble is it has overtones that are more of a mental health ward than a dungeon.
Re: The Honda Fit, as presented here in the US, [bamacar]
by eldaino on Tue Jun 12 08:20:09 PDT 2007
yeah, it has a very strong overtone of someone who was tired of the rave reviews the fit has been getting. And even then, it was never like "the xd completely decimates the fit" which say WORLDS about the genius of the fits 6 year old design. and yeah, they totally downplayed its attributes (i.e.handling, shifter) and with regards to the interior, sorry, the xd being as new as it is SHOULD have a nicer interior, and even then i bet its only slightly; the fit has had a hold on nicest interior in its class for awhile. With regards to the ipod compatiability...the fit has an aux jack, which is the same thing! and if you don't have an ipod, you can still hook up your mp3 player, just because it doesn't say 'ipod' on it like the xd makes no difference. If the xd's connection is in fact ipod specific, it sucks for those who don't have one. If it has a second jack for other mp3's its unneccesary and the fit already has it covered.
