"Vann Wilber, safety director for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, says the ratings could mislead consumers because they require so many caveats. "Having said that, it is clear that manufacturers are working to improve their ratings, which should be a good thing for consumers." Don't worry about the ratings. Just know that the manufacturers are working hard at making all of their vehicles safer.
Drivin' through CT

Instead of I-95, try Rte. 15 (Wilber Cross, then Merritt Parkway as you head into NY). A much prettier, twistier two lane drive through lower New Haven and Fairfield counties. A lot more fun in your BMWs than I95, I'm sure. I grew up in CT. The Merritt freaks some people out who have never driven it in that to enter, you (are supposed to, at least) come to a complete stop, pick your spot and GO!!! So, if you do drive it, keep a keen eye out for merging traffic. Oh, yeah. No commercial traffic, either. Unfortunatley, that doesn't exclude such (for 90% of actual buyers) atrocities such as Excursions, Expeditions and Suburbans. Haven't been on that road in about 5 years, so I don't know if it's changed, but it is a MUCH nicer drive than 95...

I just picked up my new truck. 1998 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5.2L Automatic. Loaded w/ leather. I traded in my 1995 Regular Cab w/ 5.9. I travel on the hi-way mostly with no load and was looking for a bit better gas mileage. The truck is very nice. I like the changes in dash configuration. Fit and finish are real good. I'll put about 25K miles a year on this truck. I looked at the ford and chevy but came back to the mopar for looks and comfort. FWIW..I never had any trouble with the previous truck. I used the Auto-By-Tel service for finding a good deal and carfinance.com for the finance package. It all worked out great. The Dealer's extended warantees were about 500 more than the Warantee Gold products available on the Edmunds Web Site, so I'll probably go that way too.

I like the line in general. It's solid and priced right. The quad cab is nice. I personally was waiting for this before buying a new truck. The transmission problems my aquaintances have had have all been in relation to v-10 engines. THis seems to be a very sparadic thing and crysler always makes good on warantee work. I've never heard anything about paint.
Mister Ram (maybe)

Well.. I'm way ahead of you. In fact i did use the Auto-by-Tell service and Vacaville Dodge has been really great (Gil Schmidt is the Fleet Manager). Edmunds new truck price section is awesome and you can also use the Dodge web site at http://www.4adodge.com to "build" a truck with all the options you want. It lets you play "what-if" as long as you please. My new Ram will be ordered, built and sold to me at $500 over invoice. Tough to beat that deal.
