...this is truly the collapse of Western Civilization... The terrorists have threatened to destroy our economy... well, it looks like they might have to wait until Washington and Wall Street destroy it first. :surprise: TM

Welcome back, Dewey. Unless this is truly the collapse of Western Civilization, as of yet I am not capitulating. I'm distressed, as many are, but the losses I'm incurring are from gains I most likely would not have amassed in cash/equivalents, bonds or precious metals. It's just timing. Had I sold certain stocks near the height of the bubble, I most likely would have reinvested in other stocks for a similar net effect. It's all on paper for now, not money I need at this moment... At least on the few stocks I own that pay dividends, the yields are looking great! There, the piggy bank is half full! Of course it used to be 4/5ths full... ;) :surprise:  I'm thinking of buying (do not tell the EW!) a few companies in a few weeks. Sell in May and stay away, but I believe late October, historically if one is trying to buy low, is the time to buy? Bill Miller, Will Danoff, Ken Heebner et al, I'm hangin' with ya!
Re: Excellent Gas Mileage [grosloup]

"That's right! Your DIC reading is always based on your last hour of driving. So if you did lots of "stop and go" during that last hours it goes down." I didn't know that! That's good to know, but I would prefer that it just kept averaging from the last time it was reset. Thanks. Tom
33.1 On a trip (but spilled some gas)
by tsjay on Sun Oct 05 05:26:48 PDT 2008
I took a 265 mile (each way) trip yesterday and checked gas mileage. The pump failed to shut off automatically when I filled up on the other end of the trip, and a good amount of gas overflowed before I could get back over to the nozzle and shut it off. I was on the other side of the car getting ready to clean the windshield when I heard the splashing noise. The last time I made the same trip, I averaged 33.7 MPG. I did a little experiment as I drove across I 64 in southern Illinois between the Wabash River and Mt. Vernon. I reset the average MPG on the DIC and drove a steady 70 MPG for 15 miles, and the MPG reading was 32.7 at the end of those miles. I reset it again and drove a steady 60 MPH for about ten miles (had to stop at a rest area) and got 37.5 for an average MPG for those miles. Tom

I'm glad you know how things are going to play out because a lot of very smart people haven't been able to figure this out! " Maybe they weren't so smart..... just a thought. And yes, I am an optimist, we have several years of sales pain coming, which I know you don't want to hear but I am at the 5th stage and it is what it is. Please feel free to contact dukeourl15@gmail.com and I'll be glad to respond personally. I am sorry my post has upset you so, wishing does not make it all better. Out of this quagmire we shall emerge strong. I emailed my congressman three times in the last week and called four times. While I'm not sure what district you are in, perhaps you can tell me, I'll research how western Washington voted. Once again , wishing you good sales, please feel free to respond to the above email. Also fandi,I look forward to your response to the previously listed email. Btw , if you don't respond to the email that will be reported as well. Onus on you.
