Suggestions on headlight control issues
by kjt on Fri Oct 31 09:55:59 PDT 2008
I've tried the Pontiac forum and thought maybe someone with a Matrix could help on this problem. I have a new 09 Vibe, luv it, but you can not turn off the headlights at night with the ignition turned on, not even to the park lights. The headlights work properly without turning on the ignition, like any other car you can turn them to park and then to full headlights, but as soon as you start the car all that goes away. Very frustrating when you are sitting somewhere needing to dim your lights to park for any reason, the only way you can do this is to shut the car off. No luck whatsoever with GM's customer service on this issue and the local dealer told me that it was built into the computer that way. He told me that the Vibe was Pontiac's low end car and what did I expect to get from a low end vehicle anyway. Well I didn't think it was asking that much to be able to have some control over your headlights at least. The one thing I did learn from all this is that the local Pontiac dealer in North Platte, NE will never get any of my business again. Any ideas from anyone?
Unable to turn off headlights at night 2009 Vibe
by kjt on Fri Oct 31 09:45:55 PDT 2008
Luv my 09 Vibe except for this one perk. You have no control over your headlights with the ignition turned on at night, the headlights will not turn off, not even to the park lights. I've tried another Pontiac forum site with out much luck and the local dealer told me that it's built into the computer that way and you can't do anything about it. Quote from the local service manager at the dealership in North Platte, NE.(The vibe is Pontiacs low end vehicle, what did you expect to get.) Well, I didn't think it was that much to ask to have a little control over your headlights. Ever go out on a cold night and warm the car up, go anywhere where it was just plain courteous to dim your lights to park while waiting in line, etc, etc and the only way you can do it is to turn off the car. GM's customer service was no help whatsoever. Any ideas?

perhaps so..etiher way it sure was pretty. I saw it off I-80 Between Grand Island and North Platte Nebraska. I'm from the SE and I can't believe how big some of the states out west are. Seems like it took me all day to get across Nebraska. LOL
'07 Si Sedan real-world mileage
by bwilliam13 on Sat Jul 28 17:14:22 PDT 2007
Just took a trip from Lincoln, NE to Florence, CO. Mostly level driving for about 350 miles, about a 15 mph headwind most of the way. From Lincoln, NE to North Platte, NE, it was 225.6 miles. I filled up again in North Platte, where I put in 6.554 gallons of Premium (91) at $3.34 / gallon. That's 34.42 mpg. I then filled up again a little south of Denver, CO...between Denver and Castle Rock. From North Platte to that gas station was 260.8 miles. I put 7.887 gallons. That's 33.06 mpg. Speed limit was 75 mph. I had the cruise set at 79 mph. RPMs were right at 3.4k at that speed. I'm sure if I backed down to 71 or so, I could add another mpg or so. But, I think that's pretty good in that car. Once I got past Denver/Colorado Springs and got into the mountains, I stopped keeping track. Mileage on the car when I left Lincoln was about 2300. Still on my 2nd oil change. Going to change it when I reach 3750 and switch to Mobil 1 synthetic.
Re: Tires [jjacura]

Neb. Guy, It's been a while since we commented on the same subject...and also hard to believe well over 3 years have passed since many of us lit up the pages of this once "hottest forum" on Edwards. Good to see you around. I believe the 18" rims will put you into another tire type period, the low profile tire, and this will give you a firmer ride. Not sure about road noise with it. Just spotted a later model RL 2 days ago with 18" shiney chrome rims and have to be honest...it really distracted from the overall appearance of this handsome car. The OE rims were truly well designed and compliment the RL immensely IMO. I drove out to Denver and back in June which was about a 2,500 mile jaunt and finally observed the comfort level of these seats over a sustained period and the drivers side was great but I have to be honest, (When my wife drove) the passenger seat became uncomfortable and the lumbar support that I need wasn't there and caused mild sciatica pain which I haven't felt in several years. Spent the night across the River from your home state of Nebraska in Council Bluffs. Found our favorite coffee shop "Caribou" as we drove through Omaha. The RL Navigation system is the best! Cheers! JJ JJ, Thanks for your comments. I wondered whether the 18" tires might result in a firmer ride, which I definitely do not want. Glad to hear it was comfortable for a long drive. Whether it's in my 05 RL or a new 08 RL, I plan to take a very long driving trip throughout the Midwest right after I retire next spring. BTW, if you drove down I-80, through North Platte, you were within 35 miles of my childhood stomping grounds. I hope you enjoyed the drive across my home state. EW

Bought my EXL in Apr and have not worried much about mileage as it was "in-town" or in HILLY, TWISTY roads. Finally took a long trip and just got back and did the math. Sioux Falls South Dakota, through farm country, 65-75 MPH, down to I80 and 75 MPH constant from North Platte Neb to Williams CA, all up and down mountains. At Williams, over to rural coastal CA, high speed up and down hills again. 22.8 overall! I think that is great with a VERY full load at high speed up and down mountains etc. Total mileage for test was 1961. Total mileage on car 7700 :shades:
