Re: The Pretty Woman question [lokki] by captain2 on Wed Oct 07 06:30:31 PDT 2009

What would have the audience impression have been if Richard Gere was driving a Genesis instead of a Lotus? ahh, and that answer should be obvious. If Gere was driving a Genesis ( or something similar) they would've had to fire the casting director. ;)

The Pretty Woman question by lokki on Tue Oct 06 15:06:29 PDT 2009

The Pretty Woman Lotus question raised earlier introduces an interesting perspective: What would have the audience impression have been if Richard Gere was driving a Genesis instead of a Lotus? How about the Grey Poupon commercial with a Hyundai Genesis instead of a Rolls? Can James Bond drive a Genesis Coupe in his next movie instead of an Aston Martin? What about TV's Miami Vice with a Genesis instead of a Ferrari?

Re: The fundamental issue [tjc78] by captain2 on Tue Oct 06 12:44:32 PDT 2009

Which makes me wonder is the Lotus they were driving a luxury car?? certainly an exotic, there are some Lotus models that even dispense with unnecessary frills - like interior carpeting. don't know that they could've worked it right if Gere was driving a Tiburon or an Scoupe.

Lets move on, shall we? Unusual comparison. My sister and her friends somehow came up with this car-to-people comparo. Pretty funny. "Think of these cars as, well, hollywood stars :). Infiniti is an athlete, think Kobe Bryant. Not graceful, nor classy, but nevertheless a true performer. Lexus is best compared to Justin Timberlake, sexy though not so sporty, and older women love him :P Acura is like Ashton Kutcher. Rarely considered a big hit, but somehow he always finds a way to make us love him. MB is Richard Gere or Denzel, nowhere sporty looking, but classy and aging nicely. BMW is a young rock star, David Cook perhaps (who?). So cool, sporty, manly and active looking. Audi is definitely Brad Pitt. All masculine, full of sensual look, and balanced classy-sporty look. Jaguar is George Clooney. Aging, but doing so gracefully and still plenty sexy." I asked "How about American cars?", and she said: "Err, that Hummer came to mind, that's so Arnold the Terminator. Big and buffed up, all testosterone and zero sexiness. The only other I can think of is Cadillac, K-Fed (WHO???) or Tom Cruise. Looks good but getting old and trying too hard to be young and hip." What do you guys think?
