In reply to: Chkman - Toyota tells me that the 2001 and newer trucks are not covered because the frame was treated for rust in different manner than the 2000 and oder trucks. If this is true, why are there so many 2001 and newer trucks with frame rust problems. My Reply: Rumor was that the frames were treated and or built by Chysler. I can seen how that would have been started. I copied/paste'd the info below. Might be a starting point for more info on the build of the 2001's. I'll will ask some questions for you this week on why the failures on the 2001's. Stockton, Calif., Structural Solutions Facility Earns 2002 Honor. Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) 'The Stockton facility provides full-frame assemblies for the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck assembly line at New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI), the Toyota-General Motors joint venture in nearby Fremont, Calif. The Tacoma frame consists of 144 components. Dana produces frames for 11 different models of the truck on a just-in-time basis.

I fully agree. I've got an '06 MDX with Nav and bought a Garmin 660 Nav for about $300 a year ago to use in my Saturn Vue. While the Nav in the MDX has voice input and the Garmin doesn't, the Garmin pronounces the names of streets and highways (called text-to-speech); the MDX doesn't. If I could have only one GPS unit, I would opt for the Garmin, which also has a built-in MP3 player and other features missing in the MDX Nav. Saw the Venza reviewed on Motorweek (PBS) earlier this evening and liked what I saw. Depending on how it drives, a loaded V-6 AWD but without the Nav just might replace my MDX come January when the local dealers have an assortment of Venzas in stock.
