OT: Long Week
by mschukar on Sun Feb 09 07:45:50 PST 2003
A week and a day has gone by since the Columbia disaster. Mission specialist Laurel Clark was one of the seven lives lost that day, she was also a good friend of my wife's. We viewed the final launch of Columbia and followed the mission daily through NASA websites. I was very excited about one day meeting Laurel and hearing tales of her grand adventure, but that day will never come. For the last week, I've been desperately trying to "meet" this wonderful woman through news reports and emails from friends of hers. Last night, several med school friends of Laurel and my wife met. We viewed a tape of a private memorial held in Houston, we told stories, we laughed and we cried. I truly feel that I don't know of anyone that has affected so many people in such a positive manner. One friend called Laurel nine days before the launch of STS-107. Her concern was not about the mission, but finishing a science project for her son Iain before they left for Florida! In the end, I got my wish of "meeting" Laurel Clark through the people that knew her best. She, as are everyone in the NASA astronaut program, is a truly remarkable person. I am very fortunate to have shared in the last few weeks of her life. Thanks for listening -murray p.s. Laurel's husband begged at the memorial service that we continue to promote science and technology in our society. These seven incredible people dedicated the last few years of their lives to help improve life for all of us. Please, please do what you can to keep their work and dreams alive.

Re: Nokian tire pressure ??? [jeffmc]

I bought mine from Sunset Tire Factory which is near the intersection of 26 and Murray road (the tire factory chain in general handles Nokians). They also provided a road hazard and tread mileage guarantee for no extra cost. I do not know how many they have in their warehouse. These WRG2's are darn impressive. Previously with the Geolanders, I had to apply a small amount of throttle to get my Forester to keep up speed descending a shallow grade (that's right, accelerating to go __down__ a hill !!). The Nokians changed that - the car now gains speed rolling down the same hills. My MPG also seems to have improved - originally I would get only 18 mpg in city driving. It's now up to 20.

your blower motor resister is bad. Go to Murrays/autozone to buy the resister (about $20). This resister is located behind the glove box. It would not take you more than 5 minutes to replace...just remove one bolt. Any questions, send email to q14480n@yahoo.com

Ours listed for a touch over $37,000, and we paid just under $28,000. I feel we got a very good deal. Of course we have been dealing with Murray Motors for years.

You guys just kill me! 13 years ago I bought an El Cheapo Murray push mower and it's had "maybe" two oil changes with the cheapest oil I could find yet it's still going strong, runs smooth and invariably starts on the first pull. -Frank
