time to chose

I just purchased a 2 axle 5th wheel Cedar Creek 37 foot Rear Den Quad Slide. 12,000# unloaded. 15,500# GVWR. I will be needing the tow vehilce March, 2008, and we will begin full timing in the summer. I am trying to decide betwwen F-359 and F-450 and axle ratio 3.73, 4.1, 4.3 or 4.88. Headquarters is Las Cruces N.M. so there will be pleny of heat and steep. Also on the flat open I-10 probably some speed. I would appreciate referrals to data bases where I can do some research. i know there are a lot of differences of opinion about Powerstroke v. Duramax; 4.1 vs 4.88; saving gas vs. overkill.

I recently finished a trip from SLC to St. George and got 25.6 mpg for the trip down (this included a side trip to Cedar Breaks). This was with the vehicle loaded up with me, my three children, luggage for all of us, an 8 man tent, an ice chest, and two bicycles hooked to the back of the van. We took the scenic route back from St. George going through Zion National Park, clipping through Bryce Canyon, stopping at Calf Creek outside Escalante to camp for the night, then continuing on up through to Richfield and on up through Nephi to SLC. The return trip was on a winding two-lane highway with a lot of ups and downs. Managed to get 23.4 MPG for the winding trip back home. Pretty pleased with the mileage numbers. Total miles covered was just shy of 850 :shades:
Cedar Creek and the Lewis River

Here's my Jeep in front of a nice covered bridge, next to the Cedar Creek Grist Mill (currently being restored). A closer look at the grist mill: Down stream from Cedar Ck is the Lewis River. Was scouting the river for a kayak trip in a few days, looks good! -Pete

I'm in the Cedar Park area (Austin, Tx) too. Try the stations at Cypress Creek/Lakeline. My wife got 87 for 1.199 earlier this week at the Randalls grocery (w/ the grocery discount). I got 93 for 1.299 yesterday p.m. Ahhhh....looks like Wilcox needs to move to Tx...
