Re: I Bought The Car!!! [winstonscifi]

#91 of 92 I Bought The Car!!! by winstonscifi Nov 16, 2008 (3:46 am) Well, after haggling a few more days, the dealer came down to 15,857.00 plus tax and license. I walked out of Larry Reid's Bloomington Chrysler with a brand new 2007 base Crossfire coupe in black for 17,334.00. The MSRP was 30,745.00. I've been driving this car around for about 2 weeks now, and I like it more every day. It reminds me of my 1974 Triumph Spitfire, only with alot more power. There's not much room in the interior, and no cupholder. The radio has a bothersome lag, but all that is forgiven when you hit the curves - or hit the GO pedal! By the way, my first tank of fuel brought 23.4 miles per gallon. I'm not complaining. That is an amazing deal. You said it was a base - does that mean manual? Either way, that's less than a Honda Civic.

I like my 2006 Torrent- when it is not in the shop
by dakdog14 on Tue Oct 14 15:43:35 PDT 2008
I have a 2006 AWD Pontiac Torrent and have had it in the repair shop repeatedly- many times for the same issue. I just broke the 36,000 mile mark and after getting no help from the dealership or GM I reluctantly purchased an extended warranty with the assumption that I will have further problems. Some issues I have had are: 1) Both front wheel bearings were replaced (20,000 miles) 2) Air hoses that keep detaching causing the check engine light to go on (had it in the shop more than 5 times for this issue- finally the service people found a GM bulletin on the problem) 3) A bolt came loose from the oil pan during an out of town trip over Christmas and got sucked up into the flywheel pretty much destroying thousands of dollars in parts 4) Starting issues- vehicle turns over but the engine doesn't kick in right away- after a couple tries it will typically start but it is hard to replicate for the service department Before my warranty expired I tried to address the issues and non-resolvance with the dealership where purchased (Walser in Bloomington, MN). The salesman was inattentive, the representative they gave me was unhelpful and just tried to sell me an extended warranty and they even tried to sell me a newer model. The service rep told me that GM gives you a 36,000 mile warranty so that all the kinks can get worked out- don't you think they would work out the kinks before they manufacture and sell a vehicle? After contacting Pontiac they were even worse than the dealership. I weighed the costs and decided it would cost less to buy an extended warranty and deal with the issues for three more years than to trade in a vehicle with a long service report and get the disappointingly low trade in price the dealers are offering.
Re: Buying new Pilot EX cloth. [kipk]

Generally speaking I used to feel the same way. However, my last two car purchases have been mostly the opposite. I purchased a new Acura TL in '05 and had an awesome experience. At that time I emailed my desired specs to a number of Acura dealerships in a three state radius. A dealership in Cleveland responded w/the best price, I drove there the next day, signed the papers, wrote a check and they spent 30 minutes going over the car w/me. A pleasant experience. We purchased my wife's '08 Pilot ex-L AWD about six months ago from Bloomington Honda in the Twin Cities. They also responded w/the best price to an email I sent to a number of dealerships in the area re: the make/model/color we wanted. I was fully expecting to sell our minivan on our own, for fear they'd try and lowball us on it's value. Instead I was pleasantly surprised at what they paid us for the van, so I took their deal. On top of that the finance guy called someone at Honda and got us a 1% better rate on financing even though the stated Honda factory deal indicated our credit rating wasn't supposed to support the lower rate (we have good credit, but not 800+ credit). The only part of the deal that was "typical" was that the finance guy tried pretty hard to sell us the extended warranty on the spot; I forget what the price was. I told him several times that I would purchase the warranty in a few years as my regular warranty was expiring, but he kept pushing. But no big deal, I just kept telling him "no". I'm sure there are still dealers that are operating with a "the customer is a rube" philosophy. But I think they're a dying breed.
News Flash: Mitsubishi Illinois Plant Buyout (May 2008)
by dflores2 on Thu Jul 10 19:34:26 PDT 2008
I live in Normal, Illinois and here is the latest news on the Illinois plant buyout for 105 employees. According to Dan Irvin, "He blames high oil prices and conservative consumer attitudes for the sales slowdown." Read the article! It's interesting ~ I happen to agree with Dave82. Many residents of Bloomington-Normal have predicted it's closing. The latest 'rumor' is it will be turned into another Illinois Correctional Institution! Who knows what the forcast holds. I wouldn't be surprised if the US dove into another era like the Great Depression, even though the government has a safety net to keep it from happening again. Just a thought guys!
Re: Illinois Honda fit? [srovens]
by ej2akind on Mon Oct 06 08:26:55 PDT 2008
We live in Urbana, but last year we had the Peoria dealer (Bob Lindsay Honda) get us a base manual silver fit. We got it at msrp with no hassles. We use the Bloomington dealer (Brad Barker Honda) for service and like them too. Looking online wasn't working for us because some dealers put everything on there including the ones that are already pre-sold. Others keep a waiting list for fits so you have to call or go see them to see what their list is like. We put down a $500 deposit and got the car in 3 weeks. Good luck.
