Hi Ainsworth, It looks like you possibly bought a used lemon. My circumstances are completely different than yours. I bought my 2001 XC new from the dealer, had all the servicing done through them at 10,15, 30, and 60 K miles. The warranty ran out at like 75,000 miles. I have been a very good customer to them, and they knew this and didnt want to lose my business I think, so they gave me a tranny at cost, and I paid the labor to install it. You have got to find a good volvo dealer to help you though, my dealer is really good, where-as I am betting that there are plenty out there that suck! Like yours? When my tranny went out, they had serviced it two hours before and then sent me on my way, on a 4 hour drive, and it was very dangerous. I called them immediately and got right on the phone with the service manager, who was very professional and good to me. I do know that each volvo service manager has an amount of "free service" they can give to customers every year, they have a limited amount to "spend" and I think they chose who they give the free service to, based on what tehy can get back from the customer in later years. I will probably use this volvo dealership again in the future based on how they treated me. It sounds like yours isnt treating you very well, so maybe find another one that will. The key is to be nice but firm, and dont take no for an answer. You cant get mad and mean about it, because then they will tell you to F-off. I hope this helps.
1995 Honda Civic - Overheat/Reservoir Issue

My sons 1995 Civic LX sstarts and runs fine - after about 10-15 minutes, the reservoir starts bubling over! I see no leaks in any hoses - both fans turn on at different times when they are supposed to - the temp gauge seems fine until it starts bubling over, then it moves to 1/2 way up (I turn it off quickly so I do not toast the head gasket). I am thinking it is the thermostat not functioning correctly - what think you ? :confuse:

I read all the posts on the Kia Sedona & decided to purchase one. My wife & I paid $21.8K(after rebate), "out-the-door"(no taxes/title), for a white/platinum EX with everything but spoiler. Dealer had to "buy", not "swap", the car from another dealer who was 240 mi. away. I would like to recommend Hagerstown Kia, in west central Maryland & especially their salesman, David Ainsworth. This was THE BEST car purchase I have ever transacted. No pressure, friendly, informative & w/mutual trust. And the Sedona EX? Fantastic value. And that's coming from a 33yr. GM employee. Hope we still feel this way 5yrs. down the road!

That's a pretty generic statement, without solid emperical evidene to back it up. Not trying to fan flames or hit a hot button; BUT! I've got a 99 K1500 Suburban (1/2 ton 4WD); I towed a 6500 lb travel trailer with two kids, stuff, my wife, and my 6'5" 285 lb self; We went thru Kansas at 70 m.p.h in 115 degree heat; The only thing I burned was fuel. In Denver, I went up to Estes Park, and hit an awful camp-site; Awful, because I had to BACK push my trailer into a site, that small valley between me and the site; The 350 wasn't strong enough to push, my engine temp went up to 265! At that point, I pulled into a level pull through lot; I was kinda scared, but no worries! That 5.7L is a tank, so's the tranny, and everything else; NOW, I've got a friend who lives in Ainsworth, NE (up by south dakota line) who got 450,000 outta his '89 burb; He swears by this little formula 1) change your oil every 2-2500 miles 2) use Phillps Trop Artic oil that's my story; I do think you can get a lemon V8 (yuck that sounds awful to drink) in anything; but I've had good luck with mine;
4 Low Reverse and Grade Logic Experiences

Took our Trooper up to Ainsworth / Kaslo / Nelson B.C. last weekend and got to try it out on a moderately rough trail to the top of Buchanan lookout. Actually we didn't make it to the top - we were blocked by a tree across the road and probably at least 10 feet of snow still on top. We climbed a pretty steep trail and crossed lots of big water bars with no trouble. TOD worked great. The Trooper just ate up the steep trail with no problems and hardly slipped a wheel. The ride was amazingly smooth for how rough the trail was. To my surprise, we didn't scrape a single time. I'm a pretty experienced off road driver (5th 4WD vehicle, plus thousands of off road miles in US Forest Service and State of Idaho vehicles) so I'm not that easily impressed. I can tell you though that Troopers are very competent (and confidence inspiring) off road. Can't wait to take it out again. There was one not so great surprise though. When I had to back off a particularly steep part of the trail (tree across the road) I had to stay on the brakes pretty hard to keep it from running away. 4 lo reverse didn't seem to help either. It was a bit of a handful to keep it at a reasonable speed backing down the (long)trail. A little disconcerting with 1000 ft dropoffs ~: 0 I'm used to 4Lo reverse being the same as 4lo first gear so this was a bit of an upleasant surprise. The highways we traveled on in Southeast B.C. were pretty steep, narrow, and windy. I noticed several times that the grade logic feature in the transmisssion kicked in when coasting down the grades. Some times it worked really well and kept the vehicle at a constant (appropriate) speed on the downgrades. The transmission would shift down and the RPMs would go up to around 2000 - 2500. Didn't have to ride the brakes to keep from going too fast. At other times though it was just annoying. I'm not really used to it yet. At times when I didn't want it to shift down I just kept slight pressure on the gas pedal and that seemed to lock it out. Driving those curvy mtn roads was also a reminder that I need to put some better shocks on this thing and maybe some tires with stiffer sidewalls. All in all a great weekend and a good shakedown for the Trooper. Hard to believe these things can perform like they do off road, then deliver a plush highway ride when you get off the trail (just don't try to fling it around a corner like a sports car!) I'll try to post some pictures later. Got some pretty spectacular shots of the Purcell and Kootney ranges in Southern B.C. The hot springs at Ainsworth were awesome after a day of driving!
