$1.879 for 87 octane at a Shell station up the road. Chevron next door was the same price. I was able to fill up my Intrepid for $29.90, and it was close to sucking fumes! It has a 17 gallon tank, and it took 15.9 gallons to fill up. I checked my records, and the last time gasoline went in my Intrepid for less than $2.00 per gallon was May 30, 2005. And that time it was $1.899. The most I ever paid was $4.039, back in June and July of this year. The cheapest was $0.979, back in late December 2001.

I believe only the following states are considered to be within Toyota's SE region: NC, SC, GA, AL and FL Carmax in Laurel, MD looks like they still have 23 Highlander Sport 4WD's in their inventory. Unfortunately, none of them appear to be transferrable to another Carmax location so you would have to be willing to make the road trip. For reference: We just purchased a Blizzard Pearl Highlander Sport AWD in NC with following options: Cloth interior, JBL stereo, Sunroof, Front dual zone air, Rear auto air, Power back door, 3rd row seat, Towing prep, Homelink, Carpet mats/cargo mat, Sirius installed, body side molding, mudflaps, rear bumper protector. Auto sales tax in NC is 3%. $29,500 final drive off price.

of sub-$2 gas in Maryland. Most of Laurel is in the $1.90-$1.99 range. That's about 7-8 miles north of me. Costco out in Beltsville is $1.91. Out in Millersville (about 15 miles NE, I'm seeing around $1.95-$2.00. Most of the really close places to me (Bowie, Glenn Dale, Greenbelt, Seabrook) are still running $2.15-$2.30. As for thanksgiving, I'm meeting up with my Granddad, and taking him to a big family get-together about 60 miles away. I would've done it even with $4.00/gal gas, but these cheaper prices will be a nice bonus.

Here you go.... The 2009 Hyundai Genesis’ six-speed automatic transmission is one smooth-shifting gearbox, but Hyundai’s not content to rest on its laurels. For 2010, Genesis V-8 models will be mated to an all-new eight-speed transmission. Unlike the present six-speed transmission offered with the 4.6-liter ‘Tau’ V-8, the eight-speed transmission is not a ZF design, but one designed and fabricated entirely by Hyundai. Though not yet announced, we’re betting the V-6 Genesis model will stay with the six-speed automatic, which comes from Aisin. The eight-speed matches the number of speeds offered on the Lexus LS, beats that of most Mercedes-Benz models by one, and will match that of the BMW 5- and 7-series, when those ranges begin using ZF’s eight-speed transmission. OT: Long Week

A week and a day has gone by since the Columbia disaster. Mission specialist Laurel Clark was one of the seven lives lost that day, she was also a good friend of my wife's. We viewed the final launch of Columbia and followed the mission daily through NASA websites. I was very excited about one day meeting Laurel and hearing tales of her grand adventure, but that day will never come. For the last week, I've been desperately trying to "meet" this wonderful woman through news reports and emails from friends of hers. Last night, several med school friends of Laurel and my wife met. We viewed a tape of a private memorial held in Houston, we told stories, we laughed and we cried. I truly feel that I don't know of anyone that has affected so many people in such a positive manner. One friend called Laurel nine days before the launch of STS-107. Her concern was not about the mission, but finishing a science project for her son Iain before they left for Florida! In the end, I got my wish of "meeting" Laurel Clark through the people that knew her best. She, as are everyone in the NASA astronaut program, is a truly remarkable person. I am very fortunate to have shared in the last few weeks of her life. Thanks for listening -murray p.s. Laurel's husband begged at the memorial service that we continue to promote science and technology in our society. These seven incredible people dedicated the last few years of their lives to help improve life for all of us. Please, please do what you can to keep their work and dreams alive.
