I just picked up a 4x4 sport model week ago. The day i went to pick it up it was raining hard and there was a puddle on the driverside floor. They kept it a day and promised me it(a sunroof leak) was fixed. When i got it home it also rained that night. That am there was over an inch of water on driverside front and rear floors! 4 days later finds me sitting at home w/ a loaner car waiting for some guy from chrysler to access the rust I found while soaking up water. I pray it leaks agian :lemon: :lemon: The newest idea seems to be a leak from the cowl area...... i'll post back when i get things fixed, and i will
No issues (yet) with RFTs
by xeye on Sat Nov 15 12:17:55 PST 2008
For whatever it's worth, I have the ContiProContact RFTs on my '07 335xi while my wife has the Bridgestone EL42 RFTs on her '08 328xi. I have almost 15000 miles on mine and the tires look and ride like they did when they had just rolled off the dealer lot. They've always had a bit of a rumble under 10 mph when slowing down, but nothing annoying. My wife's Bridgestones ride like any other tire after ~5000 miles.. My car handled like a dream last winter and I expect the same this winter for both my ride and my wife's 328xi. Neither of us flings our cars around as 1) we want them to last 2) we don't feel like financing the local police force and 3) there are just too damn many nutjobs behind the wheel in Boston Metro to take the risk. Having said all this, I was adamant about getting the Conti's on my car. As it turned out, it was pure luck as I had little choice in the matter, according to my salesman. Neither of us had had a flat and I don't worry about it in spite of frequent trips from Boston to Montreal via Interstate 89 in Vermont. Should it occur in one of the longer isolated stretches in inclement weather at night, you'll hear me cursing for miles. The alternative, however, of being reminded that I'm compromised every time I open the trunk and curse because the spare tire and jack don't leave enough room for groceries is, for me anyway, a less attractive alternative. As an aside, I have the power foldaway mirrors on my car. The other day as I pulled out of the sardine-can parking spot at my office, I neglected to unfold the mirrors. 30 seconds later, I heard an electric motor noise I didn't expect. Lo and behold, the car automatically unfolded the mirrors! I know the victims of the RFTs have very strong and valid opinions about the quality of the rubber and the mindset of the BMW engineers. However, when someone in the food chain at BMW thought about unfolding the mirrors to save my skin when I forgot (I know I'm not the only one who has experienced this), I'll just say thank you and pray I don't become one of the next victims. For now, I'll own and drive my twin-turbocharged hot rod like it's supposed to be driven. Don't think for a second I won't pass your ass like it's standing still given the chance! Safe driving! xeye

"Geeze, the way things are going, a Wal~Mart job is going to look prestigious! What will become of all these people at the bottom of the jobs ladder? Are they simply going to fall off into oblivion? Desperate people do desperate things. Look for a huge upswing in violent street crime, alcoholism, drug abuse, homicide, and suicide. " Save a little panic for when thing get terribly worse why don't ya. Europe's been at 10% unemployment for years. Our standards are high and ya'll act like its the end of the world. 6.5% UE sucks for those folks but the best we ever see is around 4% (considering that at any time 4% of us are changing jobs/careers/family development). It's hard to be an undereducated worker in these times. I guess that's why my mom always said college will not be a choice like it was for her. I pray for these folks that struggle to survive but they live in the best country in the world. Don't forget that this economy completey propered after the 1970's-1980's manufacturing decline where we restructured to become leaders in the information age with technological advancement, high tech job creation, and became the most productive workforce in the world. Maybe we should fund the space programs some more and so we can develop the next teflon, velcro, personal computer and thousands of other things. Maybe we need another cold war? god help us. These are smart creative people even if Rocky doesn't want them to work for 14 bucks an hour and would have them bussing tables.

They don't have the huge bloated cost structure of GM. They also don't have 8 divisions and they don't rebadge the same CUV under four nameplates! Good points !!! But I think their is more to it than that !!! :) Seriously, good luck! If you can land that job in this economy it is a major accomplishment! I have been doing lots of praying. I had a interview a few days ago for an assistant managers position for a rent a center type place. Not my cup of tea but when you are desperate you take whatever you can get. The entry-level managers job would be doing promotions for various sports teams, resturants, etc....I personally would be training 4-6 months to manage their DirecTv, promotions at places like circuit city, best buy !!! He liked the fact that I have experience doing AT&T U-verse, sales and took charge to resolve customer service issues after the sale to help my clients. So having experience in cable type television was a big plus even though I would be jumping sides to promote Satellite Television, instead of cable !!! ;) I also have a working knowledge of DirecTv, because my family were one of the first people in Michigan, to have it and the fact that GM, use to own them I quickly became very fond of the product !!! ;) So thanks I will need all the luck I can get. Have a 2nd interview from 12-7 and probably will have writers cramp by the end of the day as I was told I'd be taking notes !!! ;) -Rocky
Re: Government Help [kernick]

i agree after BK, bust up the UAW, kill off half the brands and start running the US factories in the same fashion as the new big three i.e. Toyota, Honda and Nissan. R&D will have to designate a certain amount of resources to hybrid technolgy. I pray that the money from the feds doesn't come full circle and create another Hummer tax break loophole with the lobby in DC

"What happens to the retiree pensions"? The federal government will be responsible under the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation for the pension payouts. At least with the free-market solution, resulting in GM going under, the problem is finite. Once the government gets involved by giving the US auto makers handouts, without changing the structure of the companies, they will be dumping our tax money their way forever!!! This will be be far more expensive in the long run. The US auto makers have tried for the last 35 years to become competitive with Toyota and Honda. They have failed. The only way a government bail out can work regarding GM would be if the government destroys the power of the UAW union and in return for money, forces GM to dissolve its current stock shares ( which this morning are already predicted to go to "zero"), issue new equity shares with the federal government as majority share holder-so, we the tax payers, can benefit if and when the reorganization saves GM from the brink of death. I pray BO just says "NO" to GM and if he doesn't, and he offers them money, he does so on condition that there will be a complete re-structuring of the company with the government in charge and kisses the UAW goons goodbye.
