Bought myself a Trooper
by 201motels on Sat Aug 23 02:41:56 PDT 2008
Hello, my name is Brian from Missoula, Montana. I recently purchased my first Trooper. It's an 89 LS model with and automatic and 232K. A great rig and a good deal for only $600. My parents purchased a Trooper in 1984 and my dad still raves about the off-road prowess of that vehicle. Does anybody know if there is a lift kit avalible for this model? I've seen a 3" body lift kit but it's for the manual trans only. My 2 other cars are manual trans so this automatic Trooper is a welcomed addition.

Last week I rented a '08 Civic with an automatic in Missoula, MT. Don't know if it was an EX or what, it probably was. I drove the car like a old Mercedes 240D auto - very slow starts, letting off the gas to time for lights and to roll to a stop, and never above 55 mph. Driving was in down-town (not congested) in leafy green city residential areas, some suburbs, some interstate (55 mph max), a few small valley grades and up and down a small mountain road, with about 1500' elevation gain/loss - pretty much just all-around use. 165 miles/3.45 gallons = 47.8 mpg. This is considerably better than EPA values, but seems to be obtainable. Sure, I was very conservative, but not that anyone blew their horn at me (in Missoula they are very polite). People did pass, but it wasn't a big deal. Impressive economy and a very nice car.
Re: BMW and MB [volvomax]

You don't make any sense volvomax, so I will take one last stab at this. What the hell does a line on a map have to do with anything? BMW sells a car in Seattle for $50,000 and the same car in Vancouver, for $80,000 because, according to your logic, BMW can "spread their costs" across all cars sold in the US? That is ridiculous. BMW can spread their costs over ALL cars sold in NORTH AMERICA; the costs of doing business in Canada are not 30 to 40% higher than the US. BMW sells more cars in New York than they do in Missoula Montana but the MSP is the same in both locations even though there are more cars to "spread their costs" across in NY - so how does that work?? Most other products that I buy in Canada are priced close to what they sell for in the US, even though the manufacturer has a bigger market in the US to "spread their costs" across. Even the manufacturers themselves don't use your goofy logic; most just chalk it up to supply and demand (a nice way of saying Canadians are willing to pay more) My gawd, either you are so stubborn that you refuse to acknowledge common sense or your simply lack it all together. Anyway, those are my final thoughts on this topic.
Re: Changing Odometer reading from Miles to Kilometers [brooch]

Hey thanks Brooch! I will try that. I purchased mine in Missoula, Montana. Got the Black with the Saddle leather interior, very sharp. The only thing it is missing is Bluetooth but I'll add that later I guess. Thanks again. Oh and by the way, are you saying that it is not possible to convert the odometer readings to kilometers or you just are not sure how it is done?

Sorry to be so slow in responding to your request. I don't check the site as often as I should. I'm still waiting to hear from my dealer about the expected service bulletin. I bought my car from Vern Eide Motorcars in Sioux Falls, South Dakota The service manager is Tim McVay. I hope this is some help. I'm beginning to wonder if Honda is actually going to do anything. I was told it "might" be August before they got the service bulletin written - this was in July. Well, it's now September and I'm still waiting. I'm getting ready to do a lot of traveling. Sure hope my tires hold together. Actually the tires I got in Missoula, MT seem to be holding up better than the original ones.
Yo, Host Steve!

Good Lord willing, I will be back in good old Idaho June 16th. I plan to fly to Spokane and rent a car for a week, then fly back home the 23rd. I'll be looking up a gal who grew up in my neighborhood in Hammond, IN, and now lives in Missoula. I plan to stay with her and her husband the first night, then drive up to Big Fork, MT, to hook up with a guy named Bill, one of the guys I worked with every day on the timber crew at Kingston, ID, back in 1971 and 1972. Bill and I will spend a couple days at Glacier National Park, then head for the Kingston area on Tuesday. Bill lives only 30 miles from the western entrance to Glacier. We plan to drive to Idaho sometime Tuesday and spend Wednesday and Thursday roaming around our old Ranger District. We will be joined by another guy, Bob, who was also on our crew back in 71 and 72. A third guy, Troy, who worked on our Ranger District, but not on the timber crew, is going to put us up in his "cabin" on the North Fork of the Coeur d' Alene River. That "cabin" has four bedrooms and two baths. Some cabin, huh? Troy lives only about 30 miles from Kingston, and he has contacted some folks who we worked with in 71 and 72 and who are still in the area. He has a little reunion party set up for Wednesday night. I had not maintained any kind of contact with these guys since we parted company in November of 1972, when I was laid off by the Forest Service after my second year of work. It was only a few weeks ago that I re-established contact with them, after doing some research in order to find them. I AM PUMPED! Tomster
