Last week south of Helena Mt I encountered the worst driving conditions I have ever seen, slippery whiteouts and lots of drifting snow, NEVER have I been more impressed with a SUV! My 2008 Limited never let me know how icy it was till I stepped out. The Michelins ride rougher than I like but grab traction where none is available, superb combination.

We're lost in the 2010 Lexus RX 350. Napa Valley is a nice place to lose your bearings, but as the late afternoon sunlight turns the harvested Cabernet vines golden brown, we know we'd better find a road back to St. Helena. 2010 Lexus RX 350 First Drive

It sounds as if the evaporator may have gotten too cold and froze up. Did you still have good/strong airflow from the system during the early part of that hour or so...?? If not then the airflow was being blocked by the iced over evaporator. There is a thermistor mounted right against the downstream side of the evaporator so the ECU will/should never drive the evaporator temperature below freezing. But, believe me, it does still happen. The HVAC firmware, as a remedial/recovery measure, may prevent the use of the recirculate mode or the floor/footwell airflow modes until the next time teh ignition is switched on. I have only had the LS400 A/C shut down in the manner you describe, once in our 92 LS400 while traveling west out of Helena MT, and then in my brother's 92 LS400 traveling north into OR from the mountainous regions of northern CA. While I suspected evaporator freeze up in both instances I did not think to check for airflow on either occasion. So the A/C shutdown may have been the result of the extra climbing load on the engine and therefore coolant "threatening" to overheat.

We have had our 06' Pilot EX-L, AWD, 15 months now, with 19,800 miles. In town we average 18-19 MPG when wife drives, and 16-18 MPG when I drive. (I'm a little heavy footed off the line.) On highway driving, with 2 trips to Montana from Texas and a few more to Dallas, Houston, Missouri, we are not doing that bad compared to some other unhappy Pilot owners ~20-22 average overall. Montana trip in June this year loaded, air, cruse at ~80-85 MPH, average 20-22. We did get a couple of really good tanks through Wyoming and through Billings to Helena with 23.4 at 78 MPH with both level and mountains. Biggest issue is not gas on this vehicle. Nothing this size I am aware of does better with AWD for the price... I don't like the road noise and it leans a bit too much in turns, not to mention I had to replace all the stock paper speakers with high end Alpine to get reasonable sound from the 155 W high end stereo it comes with, and Michelins helped with road noise...hey, where is the memory for front seats, and how about moving the sunroof switch being next to the...sunroof?... great car for the money though!

I guess you can see that 3% (6 speed manual, non Z06) any number of ways: 1. very limited, almost custom production, increased desirability (resale value) 2. It is so limited and such a minority population (3%) it is in danger of being overshadowed and don't be caught dead with one. 3. etc. 2001 Z06 Corvette here, got it new with 4 miles on the odometer. The salesman took me through the streets of St Helena, CA (wine country) for its first full tank and two extra miles. :) Since he knew the area WELL and was a SCCA licensed driver, we took a longer ala "fast" tour of the locations of a few wineries. :)

Just to reitereate a point tpe made about Altair batteries. From Altair's website: Operation in extreme temperature conditions If a battery has a SEI barrier, it can’t be charged at temperatures below 32° Fahrenheit. The pores in the barrier close, eliminating access to the active sites. An electrode with our nanomaterials will not form a SEI barrier, allowing it to safely operate down to -30°C. Even at this low temperature nearly 90% of room temperature charge retention is realized from Altairnano’s nano lithium titanium oxide cells at 2C rates. Traditional Li-Ion technology possesses virtually no charging capabilities at this low temperature. High operating temperature tests on Altairnano based cells have been conducted at 65°C where we have demonstrated 9C 90% charge retention. If these claims are valid, I believe they would only be unpractical in Alaska and places like Helena, Montana. It is rapidly coming down to price as the only limiting feature.
