Re: Noisy moaning power steering [goldenpa]
by haileebabe on Fri Dec 04 10:42:29 PST 2009
I have one of the first 2007 (may) Acadia. I was in Medford, Oregon last week for a family emergency and since I knew that I would be there for some time, I took my car into Dollar GMC and told them my problem with the sound from the power steering. They told me that it sounds like it has air in the steering system - and sure enough, they simply 'pushed' the air out of the system and that was it. No more noise at all!! Now, my father-in-law also has one of the first Acadia's; different model though. I just found out that his was making the same noise and he took it in to be checked and they told him that the whole steering system needed to be replaced. I think he got taken!! So, before these service stations tell you that you need to have all kinds of replacements for the power steering, simply as them if they can 'push' or 'flush' the air out of the power steering, before they take out the whole system. The lead mechanic at Dolloar GMC told me that he's had about 8 Acadia's come in with the same problem and they flushed out the air and they've not been back with any problems. Good luck.

I'd be certain that it's the insurance industry that would try to track it down first in order to keep from having to pay any unnecessary claims. The Insurance industry has more reason to shuffle it under the carpet than Toyota. No win in court no big settlement for the insurance company to pay. Replacing a car that is destroyed in a runaway accident is chump change compared to paying $100s of $1000s of dollars in punitive damages to the family of a victim. Do you really think the insurance company that covers the Lexus agency that screwed up is hoping for a big win in court for the families? I have no idea who has the most DBW systems sold. I do know that the incidence of runaway acceleration with Toyota products went up radically after they started using their electronic accelerator systems. At least according to this graphic. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-112909-fi-2toyota_throttle-g,0,6259535.graphi- c If that graph does not make you think something is wrong with Toyota DBW, nothing would convince you. It goes beyond reason or logic that floor mats are the major problem. Many loyal Toyota customers question their DBW systems. Laura Paulson of San Diego said she was unable to stop her surging 2008 Tacoma pickup from accelerating through the back wall of her garage, destroying a bathroom on the other side. Both her dealer and Toyota's national sales division told her the vehicle had no defects, and news that the automaker would now alter the vehicle's pedal did not impress Paulson. "I don't think this is going to solve the problem," she said. "The theory that floor mats cause this just does not add up." Mary Ann Hoffman of Medford, Ore., won't be taking part in the recall. After three frightening incidents of unintended acceleration, including one with her 15-year-old daughter behind the wheel, she took her 2007 Prius to the dealership. Last week mechanics and a Toyota field representative told her that they believed the problem lay in the pedal, which was replaced. But Hoffman, who thinks there could be some deeper electronic or mechanical problem with the car, had lost faith in the vehicle and Toyota altogether. "I think this recall is window dressing," Hoffman said. "I don't think the problem is the pedal or the floor mat or any of that." On Monday, she traded in her Prius for a 2008 BMW 5-series. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-toyota-recall26-2009nov26,0,3295310.story?- page=2

Only a handful of big dealership groups raised revenues in 2008's brutal climate Automotive News | March 23, 2009 - 12:01 am EST In a dismal year when industry sales slumped 18 percent, only a few dealership groups managed to boost revenues. According to Automotive News' annual survey of the nation's top 125 dealership groups, just 16 increased overall revenue in 2008. Some credited solid service-and-parts operations, while others reported strong increases in Internet-related sales. ...Retailers with a heavy concentration of domestic franchises have bled most heavily during the 2008 sales meltdown. And dealership groups with lots of stores in former fast-growing states such as California, Arizona and Florida have been especially vulnerable. At the 11th-largest company, David Wilson Automotive Group of Orange, Calif., whose 16-store network of import and luxury brands is concentrated in California, revenue declined 24.6 percent. "It used to be a wonderful thing to be selling cars in California and Florida," said Paul Taylor, chief economist for the National Automobile Dealers Association. "But right now Texas is the only really bright spot among the largest states." ...AutoNation Inc., the U.S. market's biggest retailer, suffered a 19.1 percent decline in revenues. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based company has decreased its reliance on revenues from ailing domestic brands. But almost half of AutoNation's dealerships are in Florida and California, which are reeling from depressed housing markets. Penske Automotive Group Inc., of suburban Detroit, the nation's second-largest dealership group, had a smaller-than-average revenue decline of 11.7 percent. The group operates a higher percentage of import and luxury dealerships than AutoNation does, and Penske's dealerships are scattered over a broader geographic area. Eighth-ranked Lithia Motors Inc. of Medford, Ore., experienced a double whammy. Its dealerships are clustered along the West Coast, and it has a concentration of domestic brands. Lithia's revenue dropped 21.3 percent. One major player, CarMax Inc. of Richmond, Va., is absent from the top 10 list of retailers. Used cars generated the bulk of its $7.9 billion sales; only five of its 99 stores sell new vehicles. http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090323/ANA06/903230342/1078- &template=printart (registration link) The article mentions again something I have strongly suspected: domestic-brand dealers are harder hit in this whole thing. There were WAY too many of them prior to the "meltdown".
