Dayton City has put up speed cameras. One is on a 6 lane wide street with a separating turn lane in the middle and parking lanes on each side. The businesses and industry are long gone. It's safe to go over 35 on that 3 block strip close to the main post office sorting center. Speed cameras--gotta make that money for the floundering city. I suggested since the city says they aren't using them to make money, but to improve safety, that they send the money from the "fines" to the surrounding 5 counties. The locals will know the cameras are there--the out-of-towners will get caught because they don't know they're coming up. So the fine money should go to those counties for schools funding, e.g.
>I always expect an epiphany when I rent a foreign car. I'm virtually always left thinking, 'this is the greatest?' The perfect observation. The foreign cars put on their wheels one lugnut at a time just like everyone else. The perfection they represent in some folks' minds is strictly that: in their minds. I recall when our dear friend brought by her new Corolla and suggested I drive it, I was sorely disappointed at how tinny it was. Everything was super thin and minimal. And this was an "S" model with fancy plastic hung on the outside. I recall months later, the front bumper was hanging off on one side. The clips had been unsnapped, perhpas by someone bumping it from the front while parallel parked outside the theater in downtown Dayton a couple nights earlier. I noticed the bumper a year or more latter was unsnapped again. The steering wheel position seemed off to the left rather than directly towar the driver. But she was perfectly happy with it. Her previous car was a '95 Civic, another of the wunderbar vehicles. I recall having to go over and work to get it started as it aged the last couple of years before she purchased the 2007 Corolla. It seemed not to start after damp days and cooler weather than the average. She complained how much they wanted to fix it everytime she took it in. She didn't have a lot of the stuff done.
Okay, I'm getting sick about now. Just bought a 2002 Rodeo Sport 2 door yesterday. I wish i'd seen this board before. From what i am reading the 2 doors are not part of the recall? I have seen them selling them at dealerships in the Dayton Oh area for $5000-9000. How can this be? I guess first thing in the morning I will have to crawl under this possible lemon and see what I have got myself into. Just ordered a new timing belt and tensioner and water pump to get rid of the "Isuzu Tick" that I did research. Anyone heard of any of the 2 doors getting the recall?
My husband and I bought a 2012 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES at White Allen Honda in Dayton, OH over the weekend. We went less than 2 hours before closing, they could tell we were serious about buying and were very aggressive (in a good way) to make the deal happen. Our USAA quote said $34,010, so we were hoping to match or beat that. I just asked them straight up, what's the best you can do....first offer came back $33,595 + ttlf. We were very pleased, but didn't show it. We acted like it wasn't good enough, and got them to go down to $33K even. Although we live and purchased in OH, we are legal residents of FL and decided to register there (military)...so I guess we saved 1/2% in taxes. Here is the breakdown: 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L w/ RES (Dark Cherry Pearl II, Beige leather): Base Price: $33,000 Doc Fee: $250 FL Taxes (6%): $1980 Reg/Title: $33+$18 Total OTD Price: $35,281 Before going to the dealership, we went to get our 2007 Civic Hybrid appraised at CarMax. They offered us $12K, so we at least had that in our back pocket. Dealership only offered $9800 for the trade-in, so we declined. Decided to finance $20K at 0.9% for 36 months, and wrote them a check for the difference. We were very pleased with the deal. From everything I'm reading here and all the website quotes, I think we did great! :)
House Hearings in Dayton, Ohio: "During her 31 years with General Motors, and later Delphi, Mary Miller received glossy personal benefit summaries about what her retirement would look like — her health benefits, stock savings, pension plans. “Year after year they sent it, and I believed them,” she said." Salaried workers at Delphi got taken by UAW and Obama administration This may sound like whining at first from overpaid, over-benefitted white color workers. But the UAW and obama administration worked them over so the UAW and GM salary workers were well covered for their pensions and healthcare benefits. The Salary workers from Delphi (formerly GM) went to the Pension Guarantee Benefit Fund and get small fractions.
