Now that I think about it, if I were buying a new vehicle, I think distance-to-dealer may sway my decision a little bit, though not a ton. When I had a Mazda, there were two dealers on the north side of Chicago. There are now ZERO Mazda dealers in the ENTIRE city of Chicago; closest to me is in Evanston (13 miles), not exactly far, but in this traffic, that's a solid half hour drive. Our 'main drags' (Cicero and Western Avenues) have had alarming amounts of closures (most recently, Mitsubishi and Dodge). I guess not such a big deal, but something to think about.
History does have a habit of repeating itself. "The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." - Cicero - 55 BC" "Does anybody out there have any memory of the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter Administration? Anybody? Anything? No? Bottom line . . we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember. Ready? It was very simple, and at the time everybody thought it very appropriate. The Department of Energy was instituted 8-04-1977 TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL. HEY, PRETTY EFFICIENT, HUH? AND NOW IT'S 2008, 31 YEARS LATER, AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS NECESSARY DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR, THEY HAVE 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES, AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES AND LOOK AT THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE! THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY 'WHAT WAS I THINKING?' Ah yes, good ole bureaucracy. And now we are going to turn the Banking system over to them? God Help us."
Cars BAD WASHINGTON: In the first ever analysis of the effect of the transport sector on climate, it has been established that road traffic contributes the most to global warming, aviation sector has the second largest warming effect, and shipping has a net cooling effect on the Earth’s climate. According to a report in ENN (Environmental News Network), for the analysis, five researchers from CICERO (Center for International Climate and Environmental Research) broke down the transport sector to four subsectors: road transport, aviation, rail, and shipping. The research team then calculated each subsector's contribution to global warming by looking at the radiative forcing (RF) caused by transport emissions. The study concludes that since pre-industrial times, 15 per cent of the RF caused by man-made CO2-emissions has come from the transport sector. It also looks at other emissions. For ozone (O3), transport can be blamed for 30 per cent of the forcing caused by man-made emissions. The study implies that more attention needs to be put on the fast growing road sector. Looking solely at CO2 emissions, road traffic alone has led to two-thirds of the warming caused by total transport emissions. Veddy Interestink............
Hi, I just bought a 2004 Jetta 1.8T and the car is great, but I drove my brothers and my friends 2003 1.8T and it feels like it gives more power for some reason. In the 2003 Jetta gas pedal, as you press slowly, you can hear the car and feel as if it wants to take off right away and in my 2004, I have to really step almost all the way on the gas pedal to make the turbo kick in. It's also really hard to burn tires in my 2004 Jetta 1.8T. Is there any major changes from the 2 year models?
Oldfarmer, I'm in upstate NY. You're in the Boston area right? I wonder How the Altima would handle a little road trip down I-90. I would be more than happy to get you into a new Coupe. :) But just to let you know i found three dealers in New York that have a Percision Grey 3.5 Coupe. 1) Burdick Nissan in Cicero NY... 2) Vision Nissan in Wester NY... 3) Niagara Nissan in Lockport NY... I don't know if these dealers are close too you but I thought it might be helpful for you. But like I said I would be more than happy to sell you one too. :) That way I could justify my time on these forums to my Bosses ;) Either way let me know how you make out!
