non-existent part: by prophet2 on Sun Sep 12 13:14:12 PDT 2004; My classmate had a problem with his late-'70s Toyota Celica. He needed a part which the dealer did not have in stock. The corresponding part of the models from the year before and after were not compatible. It had to be ordered from Japan and took three months as it had to be machined from scratch. And this was when his car was only three years old! My BMW was in the body shop for 5-1/2 months due to the unavailability of certain crash parts throughout the USA. Imagine having to pay for insurance on a non-operable car for that time.

OEM vs. after-market ........: by prophet2 on Sat Sep 11 21:01:00 PDT 2004; It may be similar to the situation of name-brand vs. generic in regard to prescription drugs. Also, it's highly likely that OEM crash parts for older cars may no longer be available. The only source for some may be the junkyard!

USPS and Falcons: by prophet2 on Wed Sep 11 12:11:15 PDT 2002; In the mid-60s, my boss at the gas station also was a part-time contract mail carrier for USPS on a rural route. He used his '64 Sprint, which was certainly a lot faster than the 170 Falcon S/Ws, Cushmans, and Willys. He got a per-diem car allowance in addition to his regular pay.

"free" tune-up ........: by prophet2 on Tue Jun 27 19:08:55 PDT 2006; Took my '96 RL in to the dealer for the 120K major service last Wednesday (6/21) and was informed that in addition to the complimentary car wash and wax, the oil change and engine tune-up would also be free. I would also receive 20% off parts and labor. Including combustion chamber, transmission, and engine flushes, the estimate was $902. I also got a free loaner, an almost brand-new 2006 TL with 3K on the clock. Received the almost automatic call of further trouble: leaking seals discovered during the tune-up. Seven hours of labor according to the manual. Later, two additional parts which were out of stock and to be air-freighted in. The estimated bill is now $1750. It's now 4:00 p.m. on 6/27 and I've had the loaner for six days. Oh, it's lots of fun to drive and some people have suggested that I keep it! Which I'm sure that some salesman at the dealership is about to recommend to me (LET ME SHOW YOU HOW YOU CAN KEEP THE TL IN YOUR GARAGE!). Now, I don't want to start on a conspiracy kick, but I've been going there for 20 years since I bought my 1986 Legend and have always had an Acura in my garage. Things do go wrong that we can't readily see, but the car was running just fine and smoothly - no smoke, no rough idle, no lack of power, etc. This may be the most expensive "free" tune-up I've ever had.

Ordering 06 KC nismo fronty 4x4: by skd808 on Tue Apr 25 12:06:50 PDT 2006; All, I am ordered a 06 kc nismo fronty 4x4 yesterday. I was told by a friend of mine that he had seen a new fronty stuck in the middle of the road and the driveshaft on the ground. Anyone heard of this problem or have any major problems? Need help on my decision between a fronty or taco. Thanks

rapid clicking from flasher unit: by silos99tj on Fri Mar 03 14:08:52 PST 2006; How's it Fellas, I have a 99 TJ. It has a fast clicking sound coming from the flasher unit, under the dash. The sound stops when brake pedal is pushed, but not when just the hand brake is applied. When signaling left or right the sound changes to the normal turn signal click. Changed the flasher relay (or the box that was making the clicking) but that did not fix the problem. All the lights are working. But one time I notice the front and side marker were alternating. Signal left the left FT. then the LT. side would go, and so on. same when I tried the other side. That went away after a minute or so, and haven't seen it since. A litte help Fellas? That clicking is driving me crazy.
