Detroit is gone, however the politicians remain.. I lived in the Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich 1967-2002 and witnessed the demise of Detroit, Flint, and the auto industry.. Ackerson CEO of GM is taking orders from the White House, GM is virtually debt free today and the hype about the company aids the task of unloading the remaining shares of stock to the public in the near future.. The Volt is a "money pit" and doesn't ring my bell to enter any lengthy discussion..It would be a step up from my electric golf cart which really isn't saying much..

I started out donkey punching and then asked the top dealers to compete against the carsdirect.com (25,081) price. Some claimed that carsdirect charges additional dock fees. Whatever. A dealer decided to step up and sold it to me for 25,000 inclusive of doc. fees+1750 tax+21 tag & lemon law = $26,771. Got splashguards & pinstriping thrown in. Other runner up dealers that I strongly recommend because of how candid and quick they were are Conyers Honda (25350.00) and Hennessey in Woodstock ($253XX.00). The only downside for me was that both were significantly far away. Phil Hughes in Athens was also very forthright, but was over $1000 more. Take this for what it's worth, but we were warned that there are some hail damaged cars still out there from the big storm back in the spring being sold as new despite the repair work. Be sure to check the roofs of the cars.

You are entitled to your opinion, the politicians wanted to save the union's pension fund and the union's political slush fund. The left hand has decimated Michigan for the last 25 yrs.. Our government's mission was to invite the Asians and the European's to the table for the slice/dice party..The bond holders were killed..Ron Bloom, car czar, was a financial guy with a Mao attitude.. Bankruptcy would have been a better solution for it would have neutralized the federal govt to some extent.. How is the Left-handed govt doing on the left coast???? Things are busy for I read somewhere that SanFrisco was trying to ban Gold Fish..Wow Flint, Michigan in 1960 had 80,000 auto-related workers, and today they have 6,000...During the recent recession Detroit lost 342,000 jobs..There are 3 congressmen in Michigan who for years have been targeting the Big3 and looks like they got their wish..I believe Levin, Conyers, and so other old guy, a lefty, are happy to see the state of Michigan trashed.. Ford has a pile of debt, but they are handling it...and based on the current political climate that probably doesn't bode well with some Washington folks.. Spent 34 yrs selling parts to the Big3, was a great time, had 7yrs running a UAW auto-supplier operation, and the last 14 yrs straight-commissioned mfgr rep..Under the current economic climate I sure could not do what was allowed in the past..Too much Global!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots of junk.....Now..

Kevin C. at Phil Hughes Honda made a very fair first offer on an EX-L and matched every time a competing dealer tried to undercut that price. We ended up at $34,198 OTD, including 7% Sales Tax, so $31,962 including destination and all other fees. That's over $200 below invoice assuming dealer doc fees of $200. BTW - Marva at Conyers Honda was great to deal with and even though her initial price was higher, she was driving the price down all day, even after I thought I was done. It seems like both of these dealerships have a number of EX-L's in stock and they are motivated to sell. I highly recommend both these dealerships and the people I mentioned. The other dealers in metro Atlanta proper still charge too high doc fees, add stuff you don't want to the vehicles, and aren't up front with customers.
