My grandparents' Vega was dark, dark green metallic with what I call "pumpkin" color interior. I remember as plain as day that the bottom of the sticker was $2,257. Two options: white stripes tires and AM radio. My grandfather bought blackwall snow tires immediately and just left them on, clashing with the white-stripe front tires. He drove the car 'til around '78 and it had 3,108 miles when my aunt bought it. You read that right. Their '67 Impala had only 6,000-odd miles when they sold it. My aunt's husband had to change the Vega's fuel filter twice to get it the fifty or so miles to their home after buying it. The Vega was such an early serial number, that the quarter window surround was just black rubber. Not too long in, they put a metal surround around the sedan quarter windows, which was then body-colored. Vegas were built only maybe 35 or so miles away from our hometown and there were people from our town who worked at the Lordstown plant. Not sure about the '67, but most Impalas I remember being at our local dealer were built in Wilmington, DE. Our '74 Impala Sport Coupe was built there, but our '77 was built in Janesville, WI. The car that preceded my grandparents' '67 Impala was a light green '63 Bel Air wagon, 283, Powerglide, positraction (or "positive traction" as Grandpa called it). He ordered a Biscayne and it came in a Bel Air. He got the difference for free after threatening to not buy the car, he used to say.
Small and obvious point, but I had a similar problem right after I bought my 94 Q45t (1997(and realized that there is a dedicated power steering reservoir in engine compartment for the HICAS to top off. - Topped it off and problem went away.
Look at Fiskar - they are working with the UAW in Delaware. They didn't have to but they chose to not fight the union. What does Fiskar manufacture in Delaware? Last Fiskar tools I looked at were all made in China. I fortunately got the last of the USA made ones I needed. Ah, you mean Fiskers motors. That is a startup on our tax dollars. Fisker Automotive has raised more than $500 million in private equity and, in September 2009, was approved for a $529 million government loan from the United States Department of Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing loan program initiated by Congress during the Bush Administration in 2007. Looks like the UAW may have a wait for those jobs. So far they are building them in Finland. Fisker's outsourcing methods have allowed the company in a 2–3 year period of development instead of the typical 5 years and at a cost of $333 million instead of $1 billion.[6] However a requirement of the government loan is that some of the money be spent building or renovating a manufacturing facility in the US, in order to ensure manufacturing jobs are not shipped overseas. Fisker fulfilled its obligation by purchasing GM's former Wilmington Assembly plant in Delaware for $20 million, and plans to start production of its next generation Electric Vehicles with extended range there in late 2012. The company expects to create more than 2,000 jobs there. Building a new plant would have cost well over $1B. So they took our $529 million and spent $20 million on an old GM factory in Delaware with the understanding that someday they will hire UAW workers to build the next generation Fisker car. My guess is they file for bankruptcy after our money is gone. Another Solyndra in the making. I cannot find any pricing on the Karma. My guess well over $100k.
Hi, does anyone have buying experience in Philadelphia - Wilmington DE area? A dealer gave me invoice/MSRP prices for the following model: RX 350 AWD Premium package heated and ventilated front seats intuitive parking assist backup camera wood & leather steering wheel & shift accessory package invoice: $42100 MSRP: $45812 (destination included) What should be my target price? The invoice is about $700 more than Edmonds. Is this because of the mid year invoice increase? Would it be reasonable to try to negotiate on the basis of the invoice price before the increase ($41400)? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Spruce
I have a related problem with my 2002 Q45. - The steering colume will go up and down when entering/exiting the car and the up and down feature works when I use the control on the steering colume, but it will no longer telescope in and out. - I cannot find a dedicated fuse so I am thinking it must be in the control switch. Any thoughts?
