Re: 2010 camry base model with 5sp price [mcdawgg]

Yes, manuals can be found, but they are few and far apart. If you have the luxury of time, or can afford the search cost/time, you might be able to find one. I got the $1000 finance credit and a college grad credit. Between the two of them it compensated adequately to go with an Auto, and I couldn't wait much longer to replace my car. The Internet sales manager (Bumpus) at Milton Ruben was great in every way and we were able to work everything out over the phone/fax. I spent less than 1 hour picking up the car at the dealership. It was the best car dealership experience I have had! The only flaw, was a small (>$50) error in calculating TTL - can't blame them, they were selling to an out-of-state buyer and there might have been some guess work involved on their part.

I wanted a base model manual, but they are hard to find. According to the dealer, the manual runs almost $1000 under a base model Auto. There are base model autos to be had for $18,000. I would say $18000 + TTL would be a good price, again if you can find one! If you can travel, look up Milton Ruben in Augusta, GA. I got my Camry from them a few weeks back, and it was $18,000 including all the rebates.
How I intend to negotiate...
by ted10375 on Thu Jun 04 09:16:46 PDT 2009
I haven't bought yet so can't vouch for the success... Track Rav4 prices on dealer websites that display internet pricing. I've found the following so far, just Google them for the website: Milton Ruben (Augusta, GA) Fitzgerald Auto Malls (fitzmall.com)...their prices are typically best Ourisman (Fairfax, VA) Browns (Glen Burnie, MD) R&H (Baltimore) Miller (Manassas, VA) Carmax (2 locations sell new Toyotas) For each of these, calculate their best % off MSRP for the model you want. Don't forget that several of these websites will exclude destination from the price paid, so you will have to add it back. **Theoretically,** your local dealer should match or beat the best % off MSRP you can find online for a similar vehicle. Autobrag.com recommends negotiating as a % off MSRP. Their website has a lot of good info as well. Offer below the best price you think you can get, and negotiate upwards. Deal only with the dealership's Internet Department. Good luck to all the shoppers, I hope it works...for you and me!

We're on the same page, bpraxis. As for the C4C program, I've been critical of it from the outset, for numerous reasons. The upshot is that the disadvantages will outweigh the advantages, for the reasons you've stated, plus others. In addition, it sets a bad precedent. That said, I predict the programt will be hailed as a success, by employing half-truths, and will either be extended or will be followed by a sequel. I expect many of the incremental sales of new vehicles will be due to pent up demand created, in part, by this program. You mentioned DeTocquevill. I would add the Austrian economist Friedrich von Hayek and Milton Friedman as two who have influenced my thinking regarding the perils of excessive reliance on government in our economic and social affairs. As you probably know, the teachings of these two economists and social commentators support what you said about DeTocquevill. The main reason underlying my concerns about big government is that government has monopoly powers, and monopolies are traditionally inefficient allocators of resources. Programs such as C4C achieve popular acceptance and support because the alleged benefits are easy to explain and comprehend, while the deficiencies of the program are easy to discredit and ignore. Look, everybody is against layoffs and unemployment, but as you said, the auto industry bailouts are likely, in the end, to prolong the misery. The crushing of many still useful vehicles is the the component of this program I object to the most, although I've mentioned other flaws in previous postings.

The fact of the matter is what truly goes on behind the "curtain" in any industry is well done behind the curtain for a reason. I've worked at grocery stores and restaurants and man, I've seen things that would make you thank your maker there is Health Department out there.... We all do what we do to make money. As Gordon Gecko stated - Greed is Good. Even Milton Freidman expounded on the importance of Greed. Just nobody admits to being greedy - it's always the other guy who is greedy. Boom, Isell, Moo they are not giving cars away at the dealership. Their job is to get the highest price for any vehicle on the lot. To maximize the dealer's profit and theirs as well. No one should begrudge or fault them for this. I somewhat agree with the poster...any salesman's job is to make a sale. Call it a sale or call it prying money from your checkbook. Does that mean they have to lie and be deceitful, absolutely not.
