I live in Virginia. Once when I stayed in Florida a month, my brakes had a "grinding" noise when I first started out. I had the brakes pulled and they didn't see anything wrong. My car was sitting a couple of days near the ocean between drives. They said it could have been the moisture and resultant rust buildup between drives. After they pulled the wheels, the noise definitly lessened; I think the road dirt fell out but I still had a bit of initial grinding when I started out as long as I was in Florida and leaving the car sitting longer than I do when at home. BTW: I learned this lesson the hard way too. If they tell you to change your brake rotors, I ask them to write on the work order the actual measurements of each rotor and intitial it. I tell them that after they've "certified" in writing the measurements, I'll make a follow up appt. later if needed. Amazingly, the measurements were fine and the language was changed from "need to change" to "a good idea to change".
I've seen pics of both Jimmy Carter and LBJ driving amphicars. I used to see a white amphi around Buckeye Ocean when I was a kid but no sign of any famous politician at the helm though.
I was looking at the 200 convertible (and several other Chrysler things) at the Philly Auto Show on Saturday. I am really impressed with the makeovers that Fiat has done on the Chryslers. They look really nice inside. I still like ragtops. I remember the last time Bentley designed a convertible that some writer was surprised they didn't do a retractable hardtop and the Bentley guy said it took away from the romance of a convertible. I agree with that. I like the fact that when you drive in the rain it sounds like a tent inside. That's part of a convertible. While on the subject, I was concerned that with all the restrictions on me after my upcoming medical issues (won't be able to do yard work, pet the dog without immediately washing my hands.. stuff like that) that the convertible would be an issue. The doc says no. Go ahead. I go in mid-March (finally! An almost date!) and should be back home early July. Almost a hole summer! No ocean, though. :(
But gaskets leaking on a car as new as a 2005? That's strange. You obviously never owned a Windstall. :( Well, folks, we have an approximate date - mid-March. ANyone can feel free to send me Barnes and Nobel or iTunes cards.... I'll be laid up for around 100 days. Today's dumb fact. Now they keep me in NYC for 100 days while my immune system builds. OK so far. After the first 30 days or so I'm out of the hospital and off to a place called Hope Lodge so I can be an outpatient. So far so good. Hope Lodge is on 33rd St. on the West Side. Sloan Kettering in on the East Side at 68th. Do they have a shuttle? No!! They say most people take a cab! No place for a new immune system like an NYC cab! Not to mention needing round trip cab fare most days..... Don't think ly insurance covers that one! Ah, but I should be back for the 4th of July and will indeed be able to drive with the top down but no yard work, house plant work and, damn, no ocean this summer.
we are so 'not Japan' in the USA. Half the Japanese are running around in 1650 lb mini cars with 660 cc engines. Here we sell 143,000 Priuses into a 155 million vehicle population. Less than one tenth of one percent. Like the interest you get on a 6 month CD these days. In Japan you are squeezed between the ocean and the mountains. There's no room for roads, no room to park, no room for your house, no room for gas stations. 982 Suzuki kei's fit on my 1.25 acre lot from my previous home.
