Congrats on your new X3! Did John get the deal again? Gonna have to pester him .. even though I've not done business with him, I gave you his name and now you've done two deals! No - we ended up buying way up at Co's BMW in Loveland. Living up north in Thornton, it's just as convenient as Schomp, and Co's seemed to be the only dealer with any sort of inventory of X3's. Plus, we really liked the salesperson we happened upon at Co's.
$2700 and I have a new head gasket, new O rings around the injectors (they had disintegrated and no one knows why) intake got cleaned of coked up residue and as long as it was disassembled, I had them replace the timing belt and serpentine. Oh and the thermostat had been stuck open for awhile so I got me one of them. This is actually the first thing I've had to do out of warranty and I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner from reading about everyone's escapades here--which has been incredibly helpful and great. I have no explanation for why this happened except I can say it's been started and driven at -26F and also run across Death Valley when it was 118F over a pass with a full load of gear. It's been from 280 feet below sea level to Loveland Pass at 11,999 feet all on the same trip. I"m pretty sure VM Motori hasn't bothered to consider vacationing with me but they should, I probably could eventually somehow damage anything they make. It's gone 13 hour stretches on I80 at 80 all day and then parked outside, not plugged in and started at -15F. I've even yanked bushes out of my yard by the roots. Had the usual transmission, front pump, reflash stuff but I had no complaints about it and my dealer service department has been really buttoned up and never gives me a sour look when I drive in, they have a bunch of diesel techs because they also sell/service Dodge. Turbo replaced awhile back under warranty and I'm only on my second EGR Crazy thing is I still like this vehicle. Just turned over 80,000 miles. I guess I'll squeeze a few more out of it. Thanks to everyone who posts on here, it's been great to be able to read about the variety of experiences, issues and likes about the CRD. Puts some of this in context.
Matt, that sounds pretty close to what I've been seeing (I'm in Loveland CO and bought mine here), sometimes I see a bit better discount so you might try adding some "add ons" like cargo nets, etc and using those as negotiating points. I did that and ended up at about 9.5% under MSRP on my Legacy. Good luck easypar
4WD is a consideration, but we are going the last week of March, so not quite as much (though condo is at 9500 feet). We had some snow last year, but the AWD was more of a security blanket. It's 6 adults plus six bags, most likely... But, it's just 90 minutes each way.. then one place for the whole week.. I was thinking the minivan would be better suited to getting the six of us around town (dinner, etc), plus have a little more space to stick luggage. We may rent two cars... Having lived in Colorado now for almost 18 years, it may surprise you to learn that the snowiest month of the year is March, followed closely by April. Plus, the spring storms tend to drop that heavy, wet snow you so often see on the east coast. Where, exactly, are you going? Taking I-70 through the tunnel? Berthoud Pass (US 40)? Loveland Pass (US 6)? That 90 minute drive time you quote is probably based on optimum driving conditions ... just keep an eye on the weather and check back here before you leave and I can probably provide a little more local guidance. You may also find the website www.cotrip.org useful ... links to road conditions and traffic cameras. When I first read your post, my first thought was "two cars". Glad to see you're considering it as well.
