Re: Something To Ponder... [hpmctorque]

would you favor reducing or repealing the current gasoline tax? Why or why not? I am not thrilled with the Federal Tax on gas. I have gotten used to it. Though I do not believe it is all used as it was purported to be used. If it is a tax to maintain the infrastructure that is fine. If it gets used for any other purpose I am against it. The issue for me is the huge state tax in some places. CA being the worst. And what are we getting for that tax? Last I checked CA tops the list of the 50 states at about 64 cents per gallon. It changes as there is sales tax of 7.75% added on top of the other taxes. I would be surprised looking at all the potholes in the roads around here, if even half goes for the intended purpose. Next to Illinois and NY I would imagine we have the most shysters in our legislature and administration. They have stolen every source of revenue to support their pet projects and social programs. They even ripped off the schools by not using the lottery money as it was intended. So for me to say I would agree that one penny more tax on anything in this state was good, is not going to happen. Where is that rope. Hang em all from the Golden Gate Bridge would be my remedy for this states government thieves.

When I think of Bel-Air it is a mid grade Chevy after the Impala was introduced in 1958. The Caprice was always a big pig to me. Cop car or Taxi cab. It would be nice to see the Impala name come back up to its heritage. I still remember a girlfriends brother getting a new 1958 for graduation from High School. His parents were loaded. That was a beauty. The Bel-Air hardtops and Convertibles from 1955-57 were real lookers also. I don't see GM ever getting their act together. Caprice is a good name for a Cruise ship not a car.

So I offered to split the difference between black book and the mandatory $50, so I get $200 and they get the car and the rest of the benefit of selling off parts or selling the whole vehicle to a junkyard for parts. They refused to negotiate on it at all. I'm with you on this all the way. I would go ahead and make the deal without your due on the scrap. Then file a complaint with the NHTSA when they make the final rules available. I would hope they make that portion clear in the final draft. A vehicle with a decent body is worth a lot more in parts than a rusted out hulk with a good engine.
Sedona high-pitched whistle near bottom of dash
by wekilled on Sun Jul 12 16:58:16 PDT 2009
Found this QUOTE: Took it to Kingman, AZ for Top Speed with Danica Patrick, and on the way there I discovered an annoying driver side A-pillar whistle that seemed to happen above 70 mph when there was a cross-wind blowing through the big desert valleys in the windy eastern CA. Drop below 70 and the loud, annoying whistle goes away, nudge back up again, and there it is in all its ear-piercing painfulness. I have the exact same problem and it sounds like the air being let out of a balloon slowly. Its not the radio or luggage rack.. I think it might be coming in from the firewall or something. Looking forward to the noise throughout our roadtrip vacation. --douglas.wekell@us.army.mil
Re: CC Goal, Global Governance [steve_]

No HFC, what's next a ban on fans? They go round and round and could kill small flying insects that are vital to our survival. Forgive me if I am skeptical of all these findings. HFCs are hundreds to thousands of times more potent warming agents than carbon dioxide, the largest contributor to global warming. So leave my SUV alone and take my refrigerator. What kind of GHG is emitted from rotting food that should be refrigerated? Last week it was Lamb chops this week the refrigerator that keeps them fresh until eaten. Funny how all these CC conferences are in places like Geneva in Summer and Bali in winter. Is this a coincidence or is it just another waste of tax payers dollars?

Not a great car, the 1975 280S. It had a very bad reputation and proved highly troublesome. Balky carbs, anemic AC, poor gas mileage, middling acceleration. Not a car I'd recommend to anyone, and certainly not anything Detroit was afraid of. Get yourself either a 60s/early 70s Benz for the styling, minimal emissions controls, and rugged dependability, or an 80s Benz and get all the improvements of better technology top to bottom. You don't see the 75 280S because they are all in the wrecking yard, to be blunt about it.
