Re: Explorer 2006 Automatic Transmission Fluid [ford343783] by nvbanker on Thu Feb 09 09:30:36 PST 2012

These transmissions are "sealed for life" and a transmission service is not "required" on them. They expect "life" to be 100,000 miles. But I would have it serviced anyway. It won't hurt, and may extend the life considerably.

Re: 2005 Ford Explorer V6 Engine problems [f110mech] by nvbanker on Thu Feb 09 09:23:07 PST 2012

First of all, your neighbor mechanic is an idiot. This engine has a CHAIN, not a timing belt, and it's not broken. If he doesn't even know that, RUN!! Sounds like your starter drive, or flywheel has a few missing teeth and the starter isn't engaging to turn the engine. Find another (good) mechanic, you'll be able to fix it for way less than that.

Re: Gas Cap Tether [musicislife] by nvbanker on Thu Feb 09 09:03:17 PST 2012

There's an interesting crimp in the tether for my Lexus as well. I don't think it helps, but I've learned to deal with it.

Re: Good news bad news [gregg_vw] by nvbanker on Thu Feb 09 08:53:55 PST 2012

Certainly agree with your comments on the MKT - that and the Flex to me are throwback Station Wagons. I rented a Flex for a week last year - it's competent enough, but reminds me of my Fairmont Station Wagon back in 2001 in a lot of ways. Not interested, and not interested in the one that costs $55,000! Lincoln is still adrift to me. But, my friends who drive Caddys don't give them very good dependability reviews. That's a problem for me. Still prefer Lexus.

Comments at your source site say it's Canal Street in New Orleans. 1955 LA license plates were black.
