Re: A case of mistaken identity...part two... [obyone]

I must admit it was like I was living in a cave for 20 years. I never in my widest dreams figured a bed could cost $11K. Talk about mark up. I'm not one that needs my bed made of cashmere. And for $11K you don't even get the box springs which needs to be purchased seperately. $11K bed I laughed at loud on the first post but you keep on going.... Good thing you knew someone. The way I look at it is $11,000 for a good nights sleep for the rest of your life will only cost you $200/mo for only 60 months..... X------------------------------------ Sign right here and I'll start getting your new mattress ready! When would you like it delivered.... Today or tomorrow? ;) :shades: GP

My kid wants this for her 1st car. We're still going round and round on this issue. Did see a silver/silver '08 one today and it was outstanding looking in that color combo I must say. Maybe I should...no, no, not with my bad spine, but it looked very cool! If we could get an affordable lease on one, bet the wife would cave but I still think a 1st car should be "cheap to keep" with no drama. That's why we're seriously thinking of buying an Accent for one and an Elantra for the other. Probably how the final scenario will play out I suspect. The Sandman :)
Sham Posters

I've never thought that people would be doing that kinda stuff from a dealership...but it's entirely possible I guess. Really sneaky, but who would really know. And like the earlier poster said, a very good way to increase foot traffic into a store if there is the remote possibility of snagging such a great deal, eventhough it's really a bogus one! Got my Civic's oil change this morning at Maroone Honda in Hollywood Florida and the service writer told me they still have a "sh-t load" of Accords to move out before the '08's hit the floor in about 2 weeks. While walking around the lot, I noticed at least 10 cars, all configurations, and this doesn't include their off property storage area. I was approached by three different salesmen trying to get me to upgrade the Civic for an Accord. I did see a real sweet light blue 4 cylinder SE model which had a price of $21,395 I think after the savings discount for the SE trim...very tempting I must say. I even sat in the same car with 10k miles on their used lot stickered at $19,700., but that was before any price haggle, so I'd bet one could pick that puppy up for maybe $18,900. or a little higher. They were hungry even on the used side, as I was approached by three different guys within about 5 minutes. They even had my exact car on the lot for $18,100, and it had 10k miles with the Honda certification. Cheaper to just buy it new actually. No 2008's on the lot yet, but was told last week there were 10 '08 Accords there for the whole sales staff to become aquainted with and drive. Service guy said they look so much better in person and even he predicted that Honda has a major hit with this car. Was very tempted to take out that '07 blue Accord i liked just for a test drive, but was really afraid that I might've caved, as the tax difference would've made it not a bad deal. But I was strong and secretly have my sights set on '10 model for the wife...eventhough she doesn't know it yet. Could get her the leather which she wants but no memory seats, just power. Time to start putting my plan into action...very slowly though. Really, once we both retire, there really won't be a need for two cars anymore. The Sandman :)
Picked up the Sienna
by ateixeira on Thu May 24 07:12:49 PDT 2007
As mentioned in Meet the Members, I finally caved and got the Sienna. The Tribeca's new engine is SWEET but we decided it just wasn't big enough as a 2nd car meant for carrying the most stuff possible. This wasn't so much Sienna vs. Tribeca as it was minivan vs. SUV, in a way. But I did compare my favorite van to my favorite SUV. Lots of factors in favor of the van: * $172 per year less on insurance * 26 mpg highway (vs. 23 for 'beca on old EPA system) * 20 gallon gas tank (vs. 16.9) for much more range * more cargo capacity - 148.9 vs. 74.4 * more seating capacity - 8 vs. 5+2 * power sliding doors are a huge convenience * middle seat much more comfy * side curtain air bags protect 3rd row * conversation mirror * fold flat front passenger seat * 6 CD/MP3 changer (Tribeca with cloth only has 1) * costs about $2,000 less * I paid cash, the 'beca would have required a loan * plusher ride We give up a few things: * much better handling * firmer seats (good for driver, but kids didn't like this) * AWD * fog lights * leather wrapped steering wheel * power passenger seat * bigger wheels * looks darn good, elegant and even luxurious Subaru promised 10-15% better mileage, but that didn't happen. I was really counting on that. The gas tank is too small, so they should have given us a bigger tank or improved the mileage. We set our hearts on cloth, and heated cloth seats were a big appeal for the Tribeca, and the 08 doesn't have them! Even in leather, the gray interior we wanted it no longer perforated. I started thinking about getting a leftover 07 or a used 06. And the price is only lower because they removed content. The loaded one runs $38,600 list, and was $36,800 back in 2006. Prices have gone up, not down. I think I could have swayed the wife, but I was counting on these many things to improve, and they didn't. When we left that event Monday night the wife admired a Forester Limited that was parked there, and Lisa (SoA rep) mentioned it was coming next February. That's what got us thinking, Sienna now, Forester next year. I was able to pay cash (9 years in a reliable Forester lets you save up that much!) so no payments. The wife's car will probably be worth close to $10k with the extras it has, and she has $12k saved up already. I'll chip in and we'll hopefully get a diesel 09 Forester XDI Limited, or whatever they call it. :shades: The van is light blue metallic, gray interior. I got the power doors, 6CD (MP3 too), and of course every safety feature available (side air bag curtains, traction control, stability control, etc.). So I'll wrap the steering wheel in leather, in fact I already ordered a Wheelskins. We'll get a 2nd NAV, and install a DVD player, voila, everyone's happy. The van does play MP3s, so that's cool. It also has heated mirrors, which I didn't know. The brochure is wrong (!), package 3 includes a power driver's seat and that wasn't mentioned. It's also wrong about package 5 not having stability control, so you can get a movie player with cloth, but at $3 grand we passed. We'll do it aftermarket. The van has a lot of things I didn't have on my '98 Forester. In hindsight, it seems like Subaru was at the tail end of their cost cutting days back then, and Subaru has also added a lot of content since then. So I could list 20 nice little surprises, but the Tribeca would have them all as well. The van rides well. I won't say it handles well, but that's not the point. We plan on taking summer trips to the beach, and maybe a spring or fall trip to visit the in-laws in CT. It will be hard to get used to the seating position, which is like sitting on top of a barstool, sky high. I'm used to an arms out, legs straight position. This is weird. :D
Learn from my mistakes...

Just wanted to report that I got my full deposit back promptly from skanky Silko Honda in Raynham, MA. Spoke with another dealer this morning via personal referral to his dealership owner. He was very honest and very helpful. He could not believe the numbers on my sales agreement. He said I was never going to get my car for the price on the sales agreement and that the sales manager knew it before I walked out the door the first visit. They just wanted to get me on paper, get a deposit and get us out of the market. They were counting on my excitement, impatience, confusion at the last minute to make us turn on each other and cave rather than be disappointed. He said they would have put any number down to get me on the hook. It's a bad tactic but must work often enough to be a profitable scheme for them. He said there was no way he would sell under MSRP because frankly, there are so many of us that no dealer has to at this point. He said MSRP is a great price on a great car and Honda doesn't have to wheel and deal on this model (ahem, this is now isellhondas opportunity to say "I told you so..." :D He did however suggest that I consider getting LX AWD with the aftermarket leather and heated seats as part of my package for 25k OTD. I thought about it but my husband is still so incredibly steamed that he doesn't want to jump through hoops and he doesn't like Honda salesman enough to listen to anything they have to say right now. Sooo, I'll be cooling my jets and sitting on the sideline to see what happens through the spring and summer. Good luck to all and I hope you find the CRV of your dreams and have a great ride. Thanks for all you support and advice.
