Re: Something To Ponder... [hpmctorque]

would you favor reducing or repealing the current gasoline tax? Why or why not? I am not thrilled with the Federal Tax on gas. I have gotten used to it. Though I do not believe it is all used as it was purported to be used. If it is a tax to maintain the infrastructure that is fine. If it gets used for any other purpose I am against it. The issue for me is the huge state tax in some places. CA being the worst. And what are we getting for that tax? Last I checked CA tops the list of the 50 states at about 64 cents per gallon. It changes as there is sales tax of 7.75% added on top of the other taxes. I would be surprised looking at all the potholes in the roads around here, if even half goes for the intended purpose. Next to Illinois and NY I would imagine we have the most shysters in our legislature and administration. They have stolen every source of revenue to support their pet projects and social programs. They even ripped off the schools by not using the lottery money as it was intended. So for me to say I would agree that one penny more tax on anything in this state was good, is not going to happen. Where is that rope. Hang em all from the Golden Gate Bridge would be my remedy for this states government thieves.
2009 - Bad year but Worse for GM...
by circlew on Tue Dec 22 17:19:18 PST 2009
So the industry lost tons of volume. Four automakers lost tons of market share, "tons" definable as double-digit losses: Chrysler Group LLC (-18.7 percent); General Motors Co. (-10.6 percent); Mitsubishi Motor Corp. (-29.7 percent) and Suzuki Motor Corp. (-40.5 percent). But where there are losers, there are winners. The can't-do-much-wrong Hyundai Group (Hyundai and Kia brands combined) piled on a heady 40.4 percent of share, from 2008's 5.2 percent of the market to 7.3 percent share this year. Afaic, Hyundai has got the momentum. GM just doesn't. Oh, and here is the top 10 2 GM's. Regards, OW Regards, OW

Don't have to tell me twice about Tire & Wheel package :( I'm pretty surprised this isn't a dealer option or something that can be arranged by a dealer (i.e. can't "trade-in" stock 17" for 18" wheels). It looks like I'll have to visit Discount Tire to sell my stock wheels & tires for upgraded 18" wheels with UHP all-seasons unless folks here have a better solution. :(
Re: low mpg on 09 6-spd wagon [jogousa]
by elias on Tue Dec 22 13:13:16 PST 2009
tnx, Joe-Go-USA. personally I try to avoid the "instant-mpg" dashboard display - I don't like my eyes being drawn to it - i want to be watching the road & other cars - not my mpg. with the 5-spd TDI, 50 mph is the lowest speed where I try 5th gear - usually 60 mph is better. It lugs in 5th at 50 mph but is ok for downhill or gently maintaining-speed. For the 6-spd, I'm not sure what the optimal shiftpoints might be, but checking the dashboard display at "steady-state" in 5th vs 6th is a good way to find out - maybe using cruisecontrol on a flat/mostly-empty road. I think the mpg-meter on the TDI operates by counting "fuel injector pulses" or something like that. Indeed it is funny to sometimes surprise other drivers by "freight-training" them with a TDI - especially going uphill... (It means "pulling away fast" in the ls2gto forum.)
Re: BUYERS BEWARE OF RUSH HOUR AND REV IT UP SUPER SALES [boomchek]

Yeah, because the dealership will actually tell customers who is organizing their sale I am surprised a Kia dealer would get involved with something like this, there sales have been trending upward quite nicely. I could see these guys being hired to clear out some Saabs, or Yugos where you won't have any repeat business.

Hey ‘jip’, you’re kinda cheap and like adventures, you’d fit right in with refills I prefer the term "frugal", but close enough. Refills aren't my cup of tea. I keep imaging some poor sap in a back room, black ink all over his hands and face, trying to squeeze in that last drop of ink to refill a cartridge. I prefer to spend a little more for the convienece of high priced store bought ink. Which qualifies me for a "big spender" label, and leaves you still in the el cheapskate category. :P I send the old ink cartridges into my sons school. They get so much money for each one they return for reconditioning purposes. Let's all continue to work together. Maybe, we can get this thread on ink cartridges to last until the new year.
