I think so too...

gagrice. I think we're gonna be hearing a blockbuster announcement from Fo-Mo-Co pretty soon that details out some mindbending moves. Like down here by me only further south even more! Take production to Mexico completely. Make corporate personnel involved in production move. Heck, Aqua Prieta is a Mexican city only about 80 miles south of us here in Willcox, AZ. They're right on the USA-Mexico border, Douglas, AZ, is the town on the American side. But Ford could build a huge factory there and the workers could live in Douglas if they still wanted to live in the U.S. Or even drive the 70-80 miles south down there from Willcox, Benson or a city like Sierra Vista. Key to this is busting the UAW's and hiring Mexicans to do the bulk of the production work. And save on wages immensely. It's time to bust up Ford's involvement with the UAW's. Ford is the only American automaker I respect. I don't want them to fail. Moving production fully to Mexico, hiring Mexican workers to mix in with some Americans already working for Ford, and busting up the UAW Union should be prime raspbery jelly donut and Seattle's Best coffee fodder at this point in time during major-mover Ford meetings. They need to wake up and smell the beans now, though. Warren Buffett and his 10% ownership of Chinese BYD will only keep panting down American carmaker's collective necks. If the BYD e6 is anything like they advertise...all electric propulsion with a range of 249 miles on one charge, and the movement slowly is towards all-electric vehicles, Ford will need much lower labor costs to compete. The Chinese and Japanese and perhaps even VW will eat them for lunch if they don't make some changes. Another BO bailout should be out of the question completely, too. The first one still gleams as a ridiculous move. But I spose my point is that Ford is still alive and I actually like the Ford Fusion Hybrid. I like it's production systems and I like it's body design. Who can forget that on April 28, 2009, a Ford Fusion Hybrid wsa driven 1,445.7 miles on a single tank of gas! That worked out to a whopping 81.5mpg! Does anyone else besides me get excited about this? Or is larsb from Phoenix, AZ, and iluvmysephia1 from Willcox, AZ, the only "green car" fans on the Edmunds website? Is this an Arizona thing? gagrice, are you impressed by that Ford Fusion Hybrid test at all?
There's good news for those of us...

that want a Mitsubishi i-MiEV and don't want to pay $30,000 in USD for one. If you're willing to get one that is a plug-in hybrid and wait until 2013, Mitsubishi has announced they're going to build one. It's in the planning stages right now. Two really cool things in this breaking Mitsubishi story. Making it a hybrid will significantly lower the price of this baby. We won't speculate on that actual price right now. Mitsubishi will wait to give pricing, though. I remember when I was chomping at the bit to buy my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS. It seemed like Mitsubishi announced Lancer and Lancer GTS pricing about 5-7 days before the car hit the showroom where I bought mine. I was the 2nd person in Arizona to own a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS. Throw me in now on buying a 2013 Mitsubishi i-MiEV plug-in hybrid. I can't wait to buy one AAMOF! More information will come as we get it-I'll find it if anyone in the U.S. can. BTW-that is an ultra-competitive beat-me-to-it temptation to ya-I just want the information ASAP, that's all. Really, I don't have to have an all-electric car that bad. With the ICE engine to give the car more range we'll be sittin' pretty for extended range! And, this will give time for American cities and companies to build more re-charging infrastructure up for the masses. Really, really monumental news to this SE Arizona padre's automotive future. And, there's a new Mitsubishi dealer in downtown Tucson named Jim Click Mitsubishi that I can buy from. Or, I can go to Ideal Mitsubishi in Sierra Vista to get one. It will come down to price and whomever offers the cleanest and tightest service agreements to me. Also, we will get the customer loyalty price rebates. Actually, I really love the agreement my wife and I signed at Avondale Mitsubishi 9 miles west of Phoenix on our '08 Lancer GTS. It offered the anti-theft package, a great money-saving service agreeement and a great every-6-month wax and protectant contract for a great price that has saved our Lancer's paint from being chipped up. Our paint job just has a few nicks-easy to fix chips that I already have the paintbrush from Mitsubishi to use to fix it with. Chomp-chomp-chompin'-at-the-bit!

what do you mean by "AMT" in relation to the IRS and Obama's "green car" rebate? Some comments on the Chevy Volt, I still think it's only going to sell to a "niche" of American buyers. It's first year might see sales of 20,000 U.S. Volt's. I would buy a Chinese-built 2011 e6 over a Volt and I would definitely buy a 2010 Mitsubishi i-MiEV over a 2011 Chevy Volt. One big reason? Lower cost. With the Obama rebate the i-MiEV will retail for around $$23,000 and the e6 with rebate around $21,000. And I think both will have good build quality, with the solid build quality nod definitely going to Mitsubishi. I am getting more excited about buying us a 2010 Mitsubishi i-MiEV because not only is Ideal Mitsubishi selling Mitsu's in Sierra Vista, AZ, about 80 miles SW of us(I get my maintenance work done there) but Jim Click is selling Mitsubishi's now in Tucson proper(east 22nd St.). So now if I buy one of the first i-MiEV's I can do a quick re-charge at that dealership or the Sierra Vista one. I know I'll want to buy Mitsu's quick re-charge unit for my i-MiEV. You get an 80% re-charge in only 15 minutes! Also, we have a 220-amp service at our house, now, and we have a dryer outlet right next to our carport. So we're all set for purchase. I love my Lancer so much and buying a car is expensive, of course, but an i-MiEV for only $23,000 would fit nicely in our budget. I'm getting a strong urge to buy another Pomeranian, too, from a Tucson outlet. My son and I saw her yesterday, she's 9 weeks old and is an active little squirtplug. We already have two Pom's and one Chow Chow and two cats in our 3 bed, 1 1/2 bath Willcox, AZ, home, so I thought about giving the Chow to my son to take back to his rental home in Oro Valley, 12 miles north of Tucson. Have ta get back to y'all on these developments. Once they take the puppy out and let you hold it the process of bonding begins.

it's SAIC that builds Buick's in China to sell in China. rock, I don't know if I agree with you on Fo-Mo-Co. If A.Mulally is just cheerleading the masses when he says Ford doesn't appear to need a bailout, then the truth will come out as they try and make that UAW payroll and benefits for the old farts, right? ;) Tomorrows your Hyundai interview, right, rock? BTW-I saw a glorious looking roadster yesterday in Sierra Vista, AZ, on the way to the Mitsu dealership for my '08 Lancer GTS' L-O-F. Man, that is one gorgeous hunk of Detroit metal, and not priced sky-high like the Corvette is. Love it and the Pontiac Solstice! I also respect the new Malibu, good car. Chevy needs to amp down the price on the 2011 Chevy Volt, I know powerpacks are expensive, but I've already found two foreign packages that will be exporting to the U.S. all-electric cars that will be worth investing in the new technology in. I have seen the Volt engineering(somewhat in the car rags) and it's pretty impressive, actually, if it works properly. But $40,000? Sheesh.

I haven't talked to Ideal Mitsubishi of Sierra Vista, AZ, or Wildcat Mitsubishi of Tucson, yet, about the 2010 Mitsubishi i-MiEV. I will eventually, but if I get one I'll probably buy one from the Sierra Vista dealer. I was treated rudely by a Wildcat Mitsu salesman because I bought our '08 Lancer GTS from an Avondale(9 miles west of Phoenix)Mitsu dealer, and now I have befriended a salesman from Ideal Misubishi, get all of our Lancer's maintenance work done there, and they're fantastic. So if I get another Mitsu it will be from Ideal Misubishi of Sierra Vista, AZ. Here's an excerpt from a comment I made at least a year ago on Edmunds' 2010 Mitsubishi i-MiEV thread: For those of us who live in rural towns and areas, I wonder if the distance might limit them. I mean, in my case, if this was my only car, my wife and I would drive it to Tucson, which is 80 miles away. If it's range is 120 miles we'd have to look for a re-charge spot. And if that is the case, I would want the re-charge process to be a bit quicker than it is. But for those people who want to go grocery shopping in the burbs or shopping in the city, this car would work, because they're not going to need to drive 25+ miles before they shop. I'm really interested in what Mitsubishi might next develop in an all-EV. One that they would consider exporting to the U.S. I really like the idea of all-EV's and I think this is the direction we need to go. Get away from fossil fuels completely. And I am really starting to admire Mitsubishi as a competent and exciting carmaker. This little all-electric squirtplug they're making is evidence of that. gagrice-I'm all eyes and ears with regard to this little squirtplug, but, believe it or not, I haven't crossed the 2010 Chevy Volt off my list yet, nor the 2010 Pininfarina-Bollore B-Zero, nor even the BYD(China)e6 all-electric car. The front-runner is the 2010 Pininfarina-Bollore and the 2010 Mitsubishi i-MiEV. And we may not trade in for another 4 or 5 years, though that's gonna prove to be a real challenge for me, not my wife. :D Incidentally, Mitsubishi announced many months ago that they now are offering a "quick-charger" for you to have with your little i-MiEV. You can get an 80% "re-charge" in as little as 30 minutes! Needless to say, I will buy one of those as an "option" for my i-MiEV. I really need one of those to go to Tucson with me, next it's the fun of finding someone's electrical outlet to kype...ummm....I mean "borrow" electrical energy from. Just kidding, and this is why I'm leaning towards the 153-mile range B-Zero, it has a "quick charge" unit for sale with it, too. But 153 miles is a lot better range than the i-MiEV's 110-some miles. And the B-Zero has solar panels on it's roof and front grille to garner extra charging energy from. So we might be able to "stretch" the 80 mile one-way trip to Tucson in with this car. Or maybe not. The cars are neck and neck in the race right now with this padre. Another option is to pay off the Lancer GTS and keep it for long trips. And buy an i-MiEV or a B-Zero to play in more locally. :) We're usually a one car couple, though.

and I get what louiswei is talking about, only I don't agree with him that one needs all the caviar and champagne to go with that Hyundai...umm...I mean Genesis sedan. Excuse me while I grab some sardines-out-of-a-can out of my Coca-Cola nylon-manufactured lunchbox. BTW-don't let Roger Ebert's review of the latest James Bond flick 'Quantum of Solace' dissuade you from going. It was mah-ve-lous, my son and I traveled 73 miles to a Sierra Vista, AZ, theater from little 'ole cowtown Willcox, AZ, just to see it last night. We weren't disappointed. My son offered a trite little criticism of the movie, and I couldn't disagree with him. He said it will satisfy the X-box and American A.D.D. crowd but could use a bit more dialogue. Right when you're trying to turn a little of your Jesse Stone or Perry Mason on and figure out the characters or the plot another wild action scene steals the spotlight and your thoughts are spilled to smithereens. But, then again, the action/adventure during this film is great and you don't really want to use your noggin at a James Bond movie anyway, do you? ;)
