Re: What are the chances for diesel?? [dewey]
by gagrice on Mon Sep 14 08:25:12 PDT 2009
You love the VW TDI so much that you refuse to buy it until it sells at a price it will unlikely sell for? I don't love any vehicle enough to pay MSRP. The only reason I bought this Sequoia is $10,000 below MSRP and $5,000 below Invoice. And even then I may take it in the shorts. When I bought the 05 Passat TDI Wagon it was an experiment. I paid well below invoice when the price of diesel was high in the winter of 05. Drove it for 13 months and put on 8,000 miles. At that point it was legal in CA so I advertised it for $3000 over what I paid including license to my home in Alaska. I had so many calls within the first two days I took it off Craigslist and sold it to the first person that called. They were from Prescott AZ. I liked the vehicle and would not have been upset if it did not sell. Three things I did not like. Ground clearance was too low. Dark leather seats were too hot. 17" tires were a little on the harsh ride on rough roads. And the sun roof is a waste of money for me. I get emails from the 80 year old couple that bought the wagon. They have made several trips to the East coast over the last 3 years and love the car. It was a great highway cruiser. We bought it in Portland and drove it back to San Diego. Took as many back roads including down the CA coast and fought over who got to drive. So I still like VW and their diesel engines and will probably get another one of these days. Today the only one I would buy is the Touareg TDI. I think I could swing a good deal on one. Though diesel where I live is 25 cents per gallon under RUG. Gas $3.25 D2 $3.
dealers fail ro respond
by azj on Thu Jul 02 09:57:36 PDT 2009
One thing I've noticed in my initial dealings with dealers this time is that several absolutely refuse to respond to email. This time around I decided to email all the dealers within 100 miles of 85023 and ask for their best out the door price on a new 09 SF SE 2WD. Depending on their website I either used the web contact form, the internet department's email address or direct email addresses if given. One was contacted through Costco's web car buying service. My hope was that this would reduce confusion and give me a printed record of what was promised. Of the 10 I contacted, San Tan in Gilbert and Tim's in Prescott haven't responded at all to repeated emails. Tempe, the Costco dealer, called and left a message but hasn't responded to my emails. And I thought dealers were hurting. The rest have been painful. All have required a series of back and forth emails due to quoting the wrong vehicle, forgetting to make it an out the door price, disagreements about SE standard equipment or having to re-answer questions that were answered in my original request. One guy's emails read like a series of text messages- sentences run together, no capitalization, mis-spellings, etc. Another called and left a message that included a comment that I would also get an email because "that was my preferred method of contact". So then why did he fracking call?

Wow, you seem to have every problem everyone has been complaining about for the last 2 years. Yes, you have an EX with sun roof. If it were me, I'd have everything fixed and then dump it. If your regular dealer won't back you up, then go to another one until you find one that will. Honda should do what's right. My dealer in Prescott, AZ has always been very easy to work with, but then I haven't had the problems others have. I just like to keep in touch so I know what "might" happen.

Thanks for your comparison of real world numbers to the computer numbers! Your numbers are amazingly close, with the real world fairly close to the computer numbers, down by 0 - 3%. I got much worse real world results comparing to the computer numbers. Here are the real tank MPG vs. the computer estimates on a trip from San Diego County to the Grand Canyon and back on 23-27 April 2009, using a 2009 Rav4 2wd with 7000 miles on it (I don't know the engine size, but the car was pretty peppy, so it may have been a 6 cyl): tank MPG Computer MPG Comparison of Actual to Computer MPG 28.0 29.6 -5.4% SD County to Kingman, AZ 26.6 29.8 -10.7% Kingman to GC to near Prescott 30.1 31.8 -5.3% near Prescott to Quartzite, AZ 25.5 26.1 -2.3% Quartzite to SD County Nearly all of the above was highway mileage. The computer mpg was reset at every fillup. All fillups except the initial one were done by me in a consistent manner. The computer numbers are off by 2 to 11%! Does anyone know why the computer mpg isn't accurate? It should be bang-on, since it knows how much gas went into the engine, and it knows the mileage BTW, at least some of the variation in the above numbers is due to elevation differences, since the mpg depends strongly on whether one has a net uphill or net downhill.
Seen yesterday....

on Arizona's "Historic Route 66", the section of of US 66 between Kingman and Seligman that still closely resembles the old road (complete with Burma Shave signs), a 1963 Corvette Stingray "split window coupe" parked next to a small ranch house near Hackberry with a few more ordinary old cars. I'm not making that up, it's a great drive BTW. Later the same day in picturesque downtown Prescott, I saw a decent looking red '67 or '68 Mustang coupe with a tacky white vinyl roof.
wow ---- did I get into a bad car here or what?

I just bought our PAC limited from a dealer in Prescott AZ. It's an '07 with only 18k miles and under factory warranty. I too am getting a handful of spots in the garage from 'something'. It's only a few drops each time of almost clear oily liquid. Am I already deep under water or what?
