I also have a 2001 Aztek and could really use that information too.. I am having the same BCM problems and a new problem where my car shows no temperature on the guage and the fan will run after the car is shut off. I replaced the temp. sensor and thermostat, but that was not it.... anybody???
Heating Control Not Working Correctly.
by popsydoodle on Sun Dec 06 20:16:16 PST 2009
I own a 1997 Bonneville. My heating does not work correctly since I had a total loss of power. I had removed the battery to charge it then put it back in. Since this happened I had a technician test the battery and charging system, both tested okay. He said the loss of power was caused by a badly corrodid battery terminal which he replaced. The control is temp controlled and when I set it for heat it just blows cold air. Some times shutting the vehicle off and restarting it corrects the problem. The other thing I have noticed is the Temp indicator flashes 2 to 3 minutes then stays on solid, this happens every time the car is started. Is there something that needs reset to correct this problem or is this an indication of some kind of component failure? The technician could not find anything about the flashing temp indicator and suggested I take the vehicle to a dealer for service.
Re: Transmission Problem? [lupering]

My brother a mechanic told me you should drive the vehicle till operating temp, and with my jeep they say to have it in neutral. I was told if pink tint that could mean water in the system, but check to see if that is what the brand should look like. Also what type of transmission is in your jeep.

coolant mix: 50-50? but the mix is probably not the problem. after it warms up, when you feel the "in" heater hose and the "out" heater hose, are the both hot or really warm? if both hot, maybe your cabin air diverter system is screwed-up. however, if the "in" hose is hot and the "out" hose is not, then like bolivar says, blocked heater core or a stuck open/close valve. if, on the other hand, neither hose is hot, then perhaps there is a blockage farther down the line. a simple test for the heater core:set the heater to full heat, take both heater hoses off. then rig up a garden hose to force water into/out of the core.it does not have to be a water tight seal..if the water flows freely, it ain't blocked and you do not have a valve problem. If the water does not flow freely, put the garden hose on the other side of the core (if you had it on the "in" side, put it on the "out" side) you also state your temp gauge barely moves: if your 89 is like my 91, the sensor wire for your temp gauge connects very near the thermostat housing; it is a single wire with a connector with a push/pull connector to the stud. next time the truck warms up, you may want to pull the connector off to see if you notice a difference in the temp gauge reading--could be a bad sensor or bad gauge (not likely). and while you have it off, clean up the stud and connector , maybe you have a bad connection. please take my advice with the caution that I do not have any professional training, just basing my suggestions on years of tinkering.
Re: New TDI Wagen questions [notquitejetta]
by sitsat on Sat Dec 05 21:02:22 PST 2009
I just took delivery of a 2010 TDI wagon two weeks ago. Averaging 39 mpg (mixed highway/city) after 2 tanks of gas. Pretty nice upgrad from my Dodge 4-wheel drive/V8 dakota, which got about 13 city/18 highway. I have the panoramic roof and they have kept the mesh deflector that pops up when you open the glass. so far wind noise has not been an issue, although at highway speeds in excess of 70 MPH I rarely have it open. I put Yakima surf-racks on the car (may switch to VW OEM racks) and I have had problems with the roof nipping the bottom of the pad that's on the rack for my boards and retracting - in other words the pinch protection on the glass door works really, really well - just the slightest touch of something and it won't close up. What I like about the new radios for 2010 are the touch screen (even without navigation) and the SDHC card below the screen, which basically overrides having to use my iphone for MP3 tunes. I got 17" wheels and protection kit (kind of useless - rubber mats and splashguards behind wheels) but no large rubberized cargo mat, which is where all my surf crap goes and I really need something weatherized. The steering wheel is multi-function and can contol all radio, blue tooth, etc. The digital display is weird and not all that useful, except for showing readout of overall mileage of range left in tank. Th diesel engine is really peppy and provides a lot of torque for such realtively low horsepower. The thing bolts off the line. The DSG transmission is pretty good, although I wish now I had gotten a manual as the auto is a bit sluggish and feels like its was designed for manual use. The clutchless manual isn't as smooth or transparent as my wife's BMW 3 series wagon, particularly getting in and out of 1-2 gear. Really happy with the car overall. Have not experienced cold weather yet (the manual says it will not start in temps colder than -10, which I could experience in the Sierras).
89 Ford Ranger Cooling Problem
by steve278 on Sat Dec 05 17:29:18 PST 2009
I just changed the thermostat and coolant because the temp. wouldn't come up. Now it's worse. No heat at all and the temp. gauge barely moves. What do you think?
