Didn't the Dart have subseries names? I think in ascending order they were Dart Seneca, Dart Pioneer, and Dart Phoenix. Yeah, they did, and that was the order. Dodge didn't have a direct equivalent to the Sport Fury, but they did have the D-500 with the cross ram dual carbs, which was an option package rather than a model. From '57-59 I believe you could get it in any Dodge from the Coronet to the Custom Royal. But for '60, I'm thinking that in the Dart lineup, you could only get it in the Phoenix, although I believe the bigger Matador and Polara both offered it. I think in the Dart it might have been a 361 Cross Ram with around 305, hp, but in the Matador/Polara, it might have been the 383, which had around 333 hp I think.

I attended college in Phoenix. Every day, you wake up and it looks the same ... sunny skies. You'd have to look at a calendar to know what the temperature was. Could be 40, could be 90 at 7 in the morning. The weather people were funny ... it's "warm" so long as the daily high was under triple digits. Only after it got over 100 did they use the word "hot". And I survived it all in a car w/o air conditioning. Two open windows and a pair of sheepskin seat covers were all I needed. Always kidded with people that I needed to spend a few years in Buffalo to even things out. I guess after almost 19 years in Colorado, I've earned the right to move somewhere warmer. Maybe someday.....

My extremes would be similar, though I went to school in Edmonton Alberta one year and it can go down to -30F. They have car warming posts in the parking lots there, you just plug in. Back in the early 70’s here in the Burgh I remember when the overnight low was -23 F for a few nights. That was when I had my ’67 Chevy which sat outside because I had too much stuff on one side of the garage to get it in. I didn’t have a warming post but I did put an extension light (100 watt bulb) on the intake manifold and covered the hood with a blanket. Believe it or not the car started every morning. I cleaned out that side of the garage after that and we’ve never had that kind of temperature since then. I’m sure the people here in the Burgh think it’s Global Warming but I know the real reason. :) The warmest, 114 in Phoenix in May.... I was there in May for a couple weeks back in the late 70’s but it never got that warm. It was great, high 80’s with looow humidity. I remember mentioning how nice the weather was to one of the guys at the company I was visiting and he said, “yeah, now. Come back in July or August and then tell me how much you like it”. About 5 years later I was out there again, in August, (same company) and when we left for lunch at around noon it was 115 F when we finished lunch it was 121 F. DON’T TOUCH THE STEERING WHEEL (they were plastic back then). jmonroe
