Re: Beware of JustVeeDubs
by davny on Sun Sep 25 23:33:06 PDT 2005
I needed to get the engine rebuilt in my 1990 VW Vanagon. I chose JustVeeDubs, a company in Campe Verde, Arizona. Spoke with Jose there and he said it would take 2 weeks to rebuild the engine, and then ship it back to us with additional parts (clutch, radiator, etc.). He also promised a 60K mile or 5 year warranty. I shipped the engine on June 9 and still haven't received it as of Sept. 25. The company is impossible to work with. They seldom if ever respond to voice mails or emails. If you get an email response, it contains some new lame excuse for the delay and a new promised shipment date which, of course, never materializes. Our engine is still in Arizona and we have little hope that it will ever come back, let alone come back in good working order. I highly recommend that you stay clear of this establishment and avoid the stress and the hassle that JustVeeDubs can generate.

Ran my Pac pretty dry last night on I-17 between Phoenix and Camp Verde. For the last 40 miles the yellow gas pump icon was on and the dial was below the "E" when I pulled into the station. I did not try to top it off but it took 21.9160 gallons according to my receipt. Regrettably I did not look at the 'miles til empty' during the trip.
Reborn again!!!

OK so now that I have repented my sins of profanity, I have a quick break in update on my new ride. I picked up my new 325 on Friday morning @ 8:30 AM. The car had 10 miles on it. I had been consulting with my sales rep for so long, he knew I knew about as much or more than he did about the car, so he skipped (at my request) the car demo and info session. By 9:30 I had 20 miles on it and I was in my driveway loading up my camping gear for the weekend. By 3:30 I had 300 miles on it and I was @ 10,000ft. in the Sierra's. The car was absolutely astounding. It was the smoothest trip I have ever made across the desert. First off let me say that the SP suspension is not rought or harsh at all. The car rides MUCH smoother than my '01 Volvo V70 T5. The motor had plenty to give when I needed to pass. I babied it all the way while trying to keep varying the revs. I did manage to bump up to about 5,000 rpm once. I am all but speechless about the quality and solid nature of this car. This thing may not win a drag race against a muscle car, but it is so well rounded and well executed I would not want to consider anything else at this point. Granted this is still the honeymoon phase however I know I did not feel this way when I got my Z3. It just did not feel as solid and well executed. It ran great at altitude and handled like it was on rails. The trip back was uneventful as well. I have very eclectic taste in music and the CD player kept me going the whole way with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Natalie Merchant, Matchbox Twenty, Bare Naked Ladies, Jimmy Hendrix, David Sanborn, Fatburger, Verde's La Traviata, Mozart and even some Beethoven during the decompression decent back into So. Cal. I am no audiophile, but I think the stock stereo sounds relatively good. I now have about 700 miles on it. After a regular work day today driving the So. Cal freeways, I have an even greater respect for the car. It is truly telepathic how this car connects you to the road and your surroundings. I can't wait till it is fully broken in so I can start playing within the power band. In short, I feel reborn again. More info to come. PS: The fishing was awesome!!! Peace

I've been to the Four Corners area on business and pleasure. Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Durango (wrecked a car there once). My oldest son actual went to college at The College of Santa Fe for one year. Been to some of the gem shops downtown to look at the sliced meteorites and many of the local tourist stuff up to Taos (there when Colombine occurred). I'm one of several Boy Scout leaders taking about 40 scouts out to backpack at Philmont Scout Reservation right at Cimarron. We'll breakdown into 12 person crews (8 kids/4 adults) and do our separate hikes. Ours is a 65 miler that starts at 6,700' and in 5 days we're on top of a MT. Phillips at 11,774'. Then there's 6 more days of hiking to get back to the base camp. Bright and early on July 9 we return to Albuquerque from Cimarron and fly home to central PA. That whole area of the country is very interesting to me but I've got too many years up here to think about ever moving. Then again I've lived in San Anton', Ok City, Biloxi, Tom River NJ and Van Buren Maine as the first of six sons who's father (civilian) worked for the Air Force. Thanks for all of your contributions to the forum. No one person can stand alone, just too much to know. I know that I was a more informed buyer when I finally got the Quad.
nuwo ? about pulling hills

Have a 4.8L 4x4 5speed 4.11 reg cab. Pulling out of Camp Verde headed toward Phoenix at 65mph starting at 3,000 feet and topping out at maybe 5,000 feet (6% grade?), the truck will pull the whole way empty in cruise control in 5th although I have to boost the pedal to the floor for the last mile. With a buddy, two dirt bikes, and junk usually drop to 4th at the bottom. Going north out of Camp Verde at 75 mph with similar grades, will pull 5th even with the load until I get to 5,000 feet and then I downshift. Empty, still have to downshift to 4th to hold 75 once I get above 6,000 feet. The 4.8L seems to really start to produce lots of power just above 2,500 rpm. Power to weight ratio at highway speeds in 5th is remarkably similar to my 1989 F350 2wd 7.3L 5spd Diesel Crew Cab although I have more power in 4th in the Silverado. Should tow 3,000 to 4,000 lbs with it in the next several weeks, will let you all know how it does. Engine seems to be running much better now that I am above 1,500 miles (could be in my head)
