That puts you in Sarasota. I thought you were north of there. Your geography and memory are still good. We are north of there, just South East of Tampa or directly East of St Petersburg right near I-75. Occassionally we go down to Armand Circle to meet friends who are near Port Charlotte, since it is about half way. We usually like to walk and look at the fancy shops (shoppes...if spelled this way they are always more expensive) and all the beautiful things we can't afford, or wouldn't buy if we could. For any one who has not been there, 8 out of 10 cars there are luxury cars, and there are Bentleys, Masseratis and every other rare luxury car you can think of. I don't think they would allow me to drive a 2003 Ford there.

"...The Villa in Florida..."Is this one in the same area? (Fort Myers) Close, but about 2 hours further North. I don't want to be too exact or I might have about 20 unexpected visitors ha ha, but South East of Tampa or east of st Petersburg, or NE of Bradenton. I think you stay around St Petes. This area is very residential, half the people live there all year long. It is inland, but I don't want to live on the actual coast. It would cost 2 or 3 times as much, and it gets very busy and more touristy. We thought about it, and our main goal is not to have lots of heat, we just don't want to be in the cold and snow.
Although Haines Jct. is always a lot cooler than Bakersfield. Yes it was summer and we were headed up into the Sierras for the week cut short by that stinking Toyota. My only time in Haines was 1974. Bought a new Dodge Van in Seattle and put it on the ferry to Haines. It was nothing but sunshine the whole trip. A very, very rare occurrence. I met 3 nurses headed to Anchorage and we had a grand time on that trip. 37 years in Alaska and my only time to Ketchikan, Juneau, Petersburg and Haines.
I hope so going on my first one in about 2 months! I did budget some coin for shore excursion and on board spending, Sometimes off shore excursions are well worth the extra cost. Sometimes you are better off catching a tour bus near the dock...or a hop on hop off bus - they are really good. For example, the cruise ship sold out of all the tours from Athens to the Acropolis. I looked up on TRipadvisor.com how much was a taxi from Athens to the Acropolis? Actually I just asked the question and trip advisor came up. We went with another couple, it was much cheaper than the cruise ship tour, and we went on our own before all the crowds came. And we didn't have to go in a group. In Tulin Estonia we got off the ship and saw a Hop on Hop Off bus right at the terminal. Much cheaper and more fun to explore on your own. Some places you need a tour though, I wouldn't attempt St Petersburg, Egypt, Turkey or many other countries without the ships tour.
