Re: Manheim Auctions [verdugo]

We got a Nissan Qashqai. Verdugo, do you see many luxury cars in Poland? I was surprised by the number of luxury cars on the road in some very poor countries - such as in Estonia and St Petersburg, I would estimate about 20% of the cars are luxury brands. Seems either you drive a luxury car or a beater car, and i guess that reflects a very small middle class - either you have money or not. We should consider ourselves fortunate that most people can drive a fairly descent car, and we do have a fairly healthy (though shrinking ) middle class.

They alone can decide what is best for them, and by definition if the deal gets done neither side can claim to be "ripped" off. Yeh, I thought it was over too..........but now, I have to respond. by definition if the deal gets done neither side can claim to be "ripped" off. Many deals are done, and at least one party gets ripped off, so I have to respectfully disagree on that point. The seller in this case has a huge advantage, they got the merchandise (the car which they were selling the day before for a few $1000 less). The customer has a coupon worth $4000 which they must spend by a certain date to take advantage of the offer. Let's go back to the cornflakes and use a stupid example. Let's say the government decided to give the poor folks a coupon to get a $4 box of cornflakes for $2 off, just to help them get a good nutritious start to the day. The stores see cornflakes are selling so move the price up to $5.50. Is it illegal....no! Is it a rip off and gouging of the public? Yes! I am a big fan of the free enterprise capitalist system, especially after a trip to St Petersburg Russia, where I'd be lucky to be driving a beat up old Lada. But, it would be better if companies tried to operate with a certain amount of dignity and fairness...........not trying to make every last dollar any way possible.

I love the square lines of the white car. What is the make , who produced it, what are the options Thanks, nice to be back, but that was a great trip. Norwegian Jewel from England, to Copenhagen, Wundermunde Germany, Estonia, St Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm. I like cars with square lines too, the squarer the better. That's why I really wanted to keep my Jeep Cherokee...I thought it would be a classic one day. Almost every other car looks like a bubble, try to make it all curvy. Women are supposed to be curvy - cars straight. Believe it or not the white car is a Lada, the same as the red car below it. I actually did see one in Russia that looked very similar. If they are in perfect condition and jazzed up just a bit they can look pretty nice.....most of the ones in St Petes look like they are on their last legs. I have reviewed all the posts I missed since Sept 5th and I will look into Mac on CarSpace during the week, after I unpack.
I am back

Just back from Baltic cruise. Saw lots of nice cars in Stockholm, Copenhagen Helsinki but was amazed at the number of luxury cars in St Petersburg. Probably about 20to 25% of cars were high end. Low end got pretty low, with quite a few of these.
Re: Timing Belt Change Interval? [gree]
by rodonnell on Thu Sep 17 09:38:45 PDT 2009
Your recommended interval is at 90,000 miles. I had the timing belt replaced in my 07 HH last month at 94,000 miles. By the way, I had it changed at Priority Toyota in Petersburg VA. I was quoted $290.00 for the job over the telephone. When I took it in for the appointment, was questioned by the service writer who thought I had a chain. After verifying it indeed has a belt, was called an hour later by the writer who mentioned the price was quoted wrong because the Hybrid requires much more work. Seems funny to me because there is no serpentine belt or other parts to remove from the front of the engine. The dealer honored the price as quoted. Got a call two hours later informing me the work was completed. Interesting, the Toyota Website and All Data quote 2.7 hours for the belt replacement on the HH. Dealer gave me back the old belt and reported there was no leakage in the seals or in the water pump.

Hi imaginary friends. I am off for about 2 and a half weeks. Trip to London and then a Baltic Cruise..Denmark, Germany, Estonia, St Petersburg, Sweden...etc. Didn't want any one to think I lost interest. We'll see what you are discussing in a few weeks, I hope we have moved on from diapers. Hope there will be more sales stories when i return.......
