Re: Why does MI need industry [gagrice]

Rocky, Michigan has 3 billion cubic feet in reserves. Here are the stats on Alaska Natural Gas: Alaska’s North Slope has extensive hydrocarbon reserves, including natural gas. To date, 35 trillion cubic feet of natural gas have been discovered. These are considered to be marketable reserves, which could be developed at low cost with existing technology That does not include the Natural Gas in other parts of the state. There are large fields in the Kenai that supply inexpensive gas to most of the states residents. Ask Obama the difference between a billion and a Trillion. Alaska has 11,000 times more known gas reserves than does Michigan. And Alaska unions respect the goose that lays the golden egg. Something the UAW needed to learn. I think it is too late.

Interesting articles: I had no idea we already used that much hydrogen. I did know that Alaska has a very large anhydrous ammonia facility in the Kenai area. They have large natural gas deposits. Must be how they produce the fertilizer. I don't expect to be driving around in a fuel cell vehicle in my lifetime. Maybe my grand kids.
MPG etc.
by turblediesel on Mon Apr 10 16:05:35 PDT 2006
After 13000 miles I'm guessing my MPG isn't going to change. I get 23-25 in 2wd and 17-18 in full time 4wd. Less if I romp on it a lot. Just did another oil change with Rotella 5w40 synthetic and it sounds much better on initial fire up. More like there's some oil in there instead of the high-rev "where's the oil?" sound I got with exon's 0w40. Used a NAPA gold filter. Just read someone's dealer washes their car every time it goes in. Cool. That won't happen here on the Kenai Penninsula. We have a place with a Jeep sign but there is no real Jeep dealer here. Buy something else if you live here. I might try the dealer in Anchorage since my differential oils are due for a change and the type of oil required isn't available locally. That'll be more than 300 miles round trip and being stranded in Anchorage paying for motel rooms and cabs for as long as it takes. NOT an economical car. No recent "send me back to the womb" blinking lights. Keeping the "tow me" number handy in the visor for the next 23000 miles. Turblediesel

Yes, it on the Kenai Peninsula, it depends a lot on when it was driven (summer vs. winter) and how often it was washed. Kenai is right on the Cook Inlet, so oceanic salt spray could be an issue depending on how close to the inlet it lived. The white marks on the sides of the vehicle are undoubtedly paint-overs from where gravel chewed off all the paint on the sides of the car. There's at least surface rust under there and where there is surface rust... I am starting to have the same problem with my '69 C20. I really need to get the house finished or the poor girl is not going to survive to a restoration.

Key in Ignition
by mckaype on Sun May 09 19:21:36 PDT 2004
Hi People - I'm a new owner of a C-320 sedan. We left the key in the ignition for several days (we live out in the country and usually leave our keys in the car, and don't drive every day) and found that the car wouldn't start. I measured voltage at the battery and found 8.6 VDC. I put the charger on it for a couple of hours and all was back to normal. No loss of memory for seats, radio etc... and started/run fine. Take home lesson.... the key in the ignition (even in the off position) drains the battery.
