Help with Carfax report! by daktari on Wed Feb 08 09:56:09 PST 2012

http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p/Report.cfx?partner=DVW_1&vin=4T1BK3DB0BU3- 85471 Down there in the "Detailed History" section, it shows location of purchase, service performed in two states, then finally the sale to a dealer via auction. The history on this vehicle looks really odd to me, and almost suspect. Of what I can't say. It just looks fishy to me. Does anyone understand or have insight to this report? Short background: On the 29th, my 1996 XLS was totaled after a deer struck the front end. 207,501 miles, 148k by me since 2000. It was supposed to get me through until I completed school in twenty months, but I guess not. So, I'm on the search to replace it. There's no rush, but I'm trying to gather as much information as I can prior to purchase. Thanks!

Re: Frame rot -- but I still want the truck! [dennisny] by cassb on Thu Feb 02 08:01:20 PST 2012

OK, thanks guys for the response. I just looked up the KBB value on my truck with the options it has and it comes out to 8,408 without the bed cap included. 1.5 times that is 12,612, so actually that's a really good deal. I didn't think about getting a used truck to replace it, but you're right. How do you like the 4Runner vs. the utility of the pickup? I use my bed all the time to take trash to the dump, haul deer when I'm hunting, throw camping stuff in when towing the camper, in fact I just brought home a exercise bike in it last night. So, can the 4Runner do all that? It would be cool to have the extra back seats, but I also don't want to give up the room in back to carry large things -- and of course need the towing ability as well. Thanks! Bryan

Re: Oblivious in Seattle? [andres3] by hammerhead on Thu Feb 02 06:58:17 PST 2012

'At fault'? Perhaps not. Financially responsible, perhaps. Not a lot of pet deer though. I'm talking about an area where the deer & the antelope (and elk, and moose, and coyotes, and even a wolf or two) play, vs. the escaped pet conspiracy theory.

so if someone has a deer as a pet and it rams your vehicle causing damage, is the owner of the animal at fault?

Timing belt issue by 1969hutch on Wed Jan 20 17:24:05 PST 2010

My wife drives an 06 Amanti. Thanksgiving night we hit a deer. Did not deploy the bags or do any frame damage and the car was still driveble. We took the car to a reputable bodyshop and by the time the parts arrived the car wouldn't run. They hauled it to a Kia dealer and evidently the timing belt had slipped a notch. The car has 47500 miles. Is this common? We like the car and hope it is dependable and tight after the incident. Has anybody else had an experience like this? I just want to know what to expect. Thanks. hutchshideaway@gpcom.net
