I just bought my '07 Cayman S in February, so I don't have experience with any mechanic other than my dealer, but I did a lot of research on my car before purchasing. 2007 was the second year of production for the Cayman S, introduced in 2006. It was the first year of the "base" Cayman, smaller engine, 5 spd vs. 6 spd, less horsepower. If you've driven both the base ... Read More
I agree that you need to look at the MSRP... but $60K for a base Cayman seems a bit high... unless it is totally loaded with extras... I bought my 2007 base Cayman for 54K and it had 18in wheels, a lot of creature comforts, etc.. but no leather or nav unit.. even with a lot of such options, doesn't sound like much of a discount... Just my opinion.. D
I'm going to post this on a couple forums here that fit the question. I've been shopping for a new car particurally a Porsche. I wrote a blog about, want to see it, here it is. http://mannyljr.typepad.com/lizardslair/ Anyway, while my first "love" was a Boxster, I then switched to Cayman for overall better experience, in my mind. Though the longer I read about the engine issues along with the high yearly ... Read More
yea.. this forum is not well attended... I never view -- but the system alerts of a message. The forum you want to visit is: caymanclub.net. It is very, very active and has a whole section on buying/leasing. $10K off MSRP is about right -- especially now. I bought my Cayman at Fremont, a 2007 model, and didn't get that kind of deal, but the dealers are likely having a difficult ... Read More
Start there, but don't limit your search to your nearby dealers in New England. Everybody's inventory is accessible through Porsche's website. The dealer I bought from in Baltimore ships cars to California.
I would think a similarly equiped 911 coupe (base) would be about $18-20k more, in the $73-75k range after discounts (MSRP of $80k+/-). However, although $55.5k sounds like a very good deal, I strongly suggest rethinking the options on the car. It has: $3,070 - PCM 2.1 w/ Navigation $970 Bose $570 Chrome exhaust tips $490 Heated seats. $5,100 total I'd forego all of those for (in order of preference): $920 ... Read More
I hate to say it, but that offer is pretty much dead. I've not heard of anyone getting a "new" Cayman at below invoice -- especially mid model year! I bought my base 2.7, argurably a less desirable model, toward the end of the 2007 model year for that price... If the sticker price is about $65 (S + options), I would think the dealer might, might be interested at $58K ... Read More
It helps to go in armed. So let me give you something. First you need to stop by http://www.caymanclub.net and visit the sales and leasing section to see what cars are actually going for around the country. While you can get below invoice on a 2007 I haven't seen ANY dealership go that low on a 2008 without incentives from Porsche. So now here is a bonus. When you go to ... Read More
I came very close to getting Cayman in November, but as usually, my wife jumped in and we ended up getting the "practical car", an Audi Q7 3.6 Premium to replace her Allroad. That being said, she assured me I could get my Cayman, a weekend toy, next year and she won't say a thing. Deal. And no, I did not get this in writting. Does anyone feel my pain? However, ... I do not know what part of the country you are in, but the highest discounts generally offered are in the southeast. There are two Atlanta dealers who are extremely competitive as Porsche USA is also located in Atlanta. Bought my Cayman S there. The cars are ported nearby also, so they can do a lot of allocation swapping. Generally the west coast dealers offer the smallest discounts because of demand ... Read More
A few suggestions: (1) If you are ready to buy now, and want the best price, scour dealer inventories for leftover 2007's in the colors and options you want. You can get a list of all dealers within up to a 300 mile radius of your zip code via. Porsche's website (find a dealer tab): Porsche USA (2) 9-10% off an in-stock 2007 Cayman would be a very good deal. 5-7% ... Read More
I took delivery on a new 2007 Carmona Red Cayman S about a month and a half ago, the sand interior, 6 speed, 19 inch wheels, Bose surround, no CD changer (I am glad), no auto climate control (that I wish I had, the standard control takes some getting used to). Dealer was easy to work with, treated me well, gave me a very fair price. Of course I negotiated with ... Read More
Greetings Car Nieve. Since you admittedly do not know much about leasing, you definitely should check out the following informative articles that are available here at Edmunds.com prior to visiting any dealers: 10 Steps to Leasing a New Car and Calculate Your Own Lease Payment. Porsche usually does not provide lease support on its vehicles and the advertised Cayman lease that you mentioned is no exception. If you choose to lease ... Read More
Hi lbh2315. Let's take a look at the deal that you were quoted. The first thing that I notice about it is that the money factor you were quoted is a little high. Porsche Credit's current buy rate for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier is only .00310. If your credit is in good shape, the dealer that you are working with is trying to mark your car's factor ... Read More

Ouch, did the Red Sox make another bad trade? ;) That was a pretty brutal assessment by redsoxgirl - someone who is normally pretty pleasant in these forums. However, if you want an equally biased, but perhaps gentler assessment, I'd say negotiate your best cash deal on the Cayman, margin borrow against your long term investment account (assuming you can match the 6% Fidelity just quoted me) and buy, rather than ... First, let me say Go Sox. Second, allow me to reply to your somewhat angry posting. 1. The preferred package on the Cayman does NOT include Bose or xenons, that is the preferred package PLUS. 2. I assume you know plenty about cars. The new TT certainly is not overweight and the reviews have been absolutely stellar in saying that the TT can finally be called a sports car. That being ... Hi mightykc01. Porsche Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2007 Porsche Cayman S without Tiptronic with 15,000 miles per year are .00310 and 57%, respectively. 15,000 miles per year is the highest mileage allowance that Porsche Credit publishes residual values for. I believe that if you need to drive more than this you will have to purchase additional miles on ... Read More
Thanks for the additional information, namshik. OK, so you're interested in seeing what the monthly payment would be like on a 36 month, 10,000 mile per year lease of a base 2007 Porsche Cayman without Tiptronic that has an MSRP of $50,196 and a selling price of $47,195. According to my calculations, this car's zero down, pre-tax monthly payment should be around $715. Car_man Host Prices Paid Forum
Hello namshik. I don't know exactly how much you will have to pay for a 2007 Cayman right now, but you're right I highly doubt that you will be able to get a Cayman for close to dealer invoice. What I can tell you is that $3,000 and $7,000 are way too much money to put down when leasing. I always advise consumers not to make large down payments on leased ... Read More
Hi changw1. Here's the information that you're looking for. Porsche Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month (I haven't seen this car's 30 month lease program) lease of a 2007 Porsche Cayman S with 10,000 miles per year are .00310 and 69%, respectively. The numbers for an otherwise identical 36 month lease are .00310 and 61%. Car_man Host Prices Paid Forum
I have been quoted a 3 year lease rate for a 2007 Cayman S (6 speed) with a money factor of 0.0031 and a residual of 61% with 10K miles/year. Is that a reasonable rate? Are documentation fee of $750 plus an annual Lease Fee of $85 standard fees charged by Porsche Leasing?
Here you go, Hugh. Porsche Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2007 Porsche Cayman (non-S model) without a Tiptronic transmission with 10,000 miles per year are .00310 and 69%, respectively. Car_man Host Prices Paid Forum

I've never leased, so am by no means knowledgeable about what is a good or not good deal. Would you be willing to share what kind of lease deal you got and what the money factor/lease factor was? We're getting ready to make a deal tomorrow night.
I bought a Cayman off the lot 3-weeks ago. The only options I really wish I had would be the 18" wheels and sport steering wheel. I'm still breaking it in, but the car is a blast. Reminds me a lot of my '95 Miata R-package, except it feels carved out of billet steel. Obviously, I to was much more concerned with something "fantastically well-balanced and capable..." over brute power.
I test drove the Cayman and Cayman S back to back. I bought the base Cayman; it felt lighter and more tossable than the S. The difference in power was only really detectable in pulling hard from 70mph without downshifting. For what I wanted - a fantastically well-balanced and capable handler - the base Cayman was just as good as the S.
