Re: Targa [tagman]

On a recent trip to Germany and the Porsche factory, I had the opportunity to drive several 911's on the Autobahn, including a C2S, Targa 4S and the new GT3. I must say, even as an owner of a 2007 911 Turbo living in the Pittsburgh area, I am a bigger fan of the "2" models than the "4" models. In the case of the Turbo, with 500+ ft-lbs of torque, the AWD is not a hinderence ... Read More...

Re: How much room to negotiate do the dealers have on pre-owned inventory? [vwguild1]

"I would also be careful about accepting 20-25% discounts or 7-9% either at face value...All depends upon the the Market, the car, and the Dealer...and all differ from coast to coast. Only 162 new C2S sold in March in the US...Allocations remain tight..." Spoken like a true salesman. My recommendation to anyone hearing the pitch that "allocations remain tight" ... Read More...

Re: Article Comments - 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 Full Test [habitat1]

No, I'm not. I don't know how Porsche came up with the GT3 curb weight or how the particular car used to come up with the certification figure was equipped. Racecar weight specs and rules assume no fuel, as the car isn't measured until the end of the race when the tank is about empty (or should be if the crew timed it right). If the dry weight had been published, the numbers ... Read More...

Re: Article Comments - 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 Full Test [actualsize]

Well a 16.4 gallon full tank of fuel is 130+ lbs, so that by itself would account for most of the difference. Are you saying you weigh with a full tank but Porsche's curb weight is empty? Read More...

Re: Article Comments - 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 Full Test [habitat1]

Actually, we weigh all of our test cars. Even though Porsche's claimed weight is 3,075 lbs, the GT3 we tested weighed 3,238 pounds. (83 was a transposed figure.) Our weighing procedure for as-tested curb weight follows standard SAE practice: a full tank of fuel and other fluids, but no occupants or luggage on board. And we double-checked it. What manufacturers ... Read More...

Re: Article Comments - 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 Full Test [KarenS]

If I dind't want/need a backseat to accomodate my daughters, I think I would give up the suntanning factor of my 911S Cab for the driving experience of the GT3. Of course, I'd also have to budget at least the 2 day Porsche Performance Driving School into the cost. P.S. Host: you might want to re-check the curb weight quoted in the article. I'm almost sure the GT3 is ... Read More...

Re: Base 997 vs. "S": An Article in Excellence [blckislandguy]

I'd have to call and raise habitat1's response. If the guys (or gals) at Excellence think that a base 911 outhandles a 911S, they need to get different jobs. I'm not just saying this because I happen to own a 2007 911S coupe. My brother is a former Porsche racing team member and still is actively involved with the company. It is widely accepted among his engineer friends ... Read More...
