I am looking to finally buy my first Porsche 911. I am trying to decide on either a 2002/2003 911 Turbo or a 2005/2006 911 C4S. Would like good advice from Porsche owners - and a reason why as well. Many Thanks !!
I don't see what you're worried about since it's a certified car with extended warranty. Service records are nice to have especially on something like an early 911 (1966 to 1973), but you usually don't get them. When people buy a newer car they're not thinking that records might be nice to go with the car 40 years from now. Ask your dealer to print out what they have on the ... Read More
Yes! Congratulations! You will love the 997, overall the best Porsche built to date. I bought my first Porsche almost 2 years ago - a 2006 base carrera and then went wild. I now have five Porsches from a 356 up to the 997. I love all of them, each has its own personality, but when the wife wants to go on a trip, it's the 997. To me, it's how ... Read More
I feel sorry for those who have discounted the 2009 PDK model for the 2008 and older units. There is no comparison. First, I recently traded in my 2006 S Cab for a 2009 PDK S Cab. No comparison. The Direct Fuel Injection has added more horsepower, but most importantly, I have seen an incredible difference in fuel efficiency. On the highway, in my '06, I used to get about 21 ... Read More
Hi Everyone, I had a 2006 911 C4 Cab then a 2008 Boxster. I've been Porsche-less for a while but a 2009 911 White Coupe PDK is being delivered late this afternoon. I'm as excited over it as I was waiting for my 2006 911 C4 to arrive from Germany. This one's only coming from Hilton Head, SC. :) Don
It has a been a while since I last posted. In any case, for all you current and future Porsche owners. I have five vehicles, three of which are Porsche's. A 996 2002 C4 Conv, 2006 Cayenne Turbo and a 2007 997S Conv. My 996 has had past issues with oil leaks, not much in volume but a concern nevertheless especially because of RMS issues. About a year and a half ... Read More
There is a lot of speculation about color and resale value. I have a 2005 911S Cab in Seal Grey that I bought off the lot in Spetember, 2005 at a great deal ($10k off). My preference at that time would have been Speed Yellow and, in fact, the next spring I ordered a 2006 through the dealer that I then decided not to take when a deal to sell my ... Read More
I was reading an article in "Excellence" magazine about the 10 Porsches to collect today. The 1978-83 911SC caught my eye and I was wondering if anyone had an opinion about buying one of these cars? The article claims that a nice one would cost between $16,000 & $19,000, that they're loads of these cars around, that they're durable, fun, don't rust like older Porsches, and the 2.0 engine is a ... Test drove one on Saturday and went to the prosche dealer and bought a 911 on Sunday, and I'm the engineering type-usually analyze the heck out of everything before I buy. But, I got lucky, my 2006 911 coup has some options, three of ... Read More
Nice post. I agree. For 65K you got a lot of fun. But I wonder if going for new wouldn't have been better. Because Porsche has fantastic resale value , you paid 65K for a 2006. At 13,000 miles it is already more than halfway into needing four new tires for maybe $1500. What would a new 2008 have cost? What did you save? Maybe the way to go on a ... Read More
Thanks for the info on PASM and certified pre-owned warranty. I guess if the mark up is higher on CPO's then you have to negotiate harder and know your prices. When I bought my 2006 911 from the porsche dealer I was playing off a similar 2006 porsche I liked that was at a BMW dealer. The porsche dealer wanted $71,000 (13,000 miles). The BMW dealer also wanted $71,000 (of course, ... Read More
Regarding your questions #1 & #6, my 2006 911 is GT silver with black interior. I saw a silver with tan interior when I bought mine a couple of months ago. The're out there, but black on black has been very popular for awhile. I don't know why. I believe PSM is standard on all 911's. Don't know if it was available on pre 997's. PASM is an option on the ... Read More
I have been contemplating the purchase of a 911 my whole life.... I assume you have never driven a 911, otherwise you would have bought one by now. I would throw in another $20,000 and get a type 997, 2005 to present, I believe. Why not get the latest technology and most comfortable ride, not to mention a faster car. I have never driven a pre 997, but everyone says the ... Read More
With pasm in normal mode, is the ride on a bumpy road more comfortable than in a base 911 (without pasm as an option)? I read a thread somewhere on this forum with conflicting answers. I just bought a 2006 911 coup with 13000 miles, certified pre-owned, and I'm love'n it. Can't wait to get home to drive it, and take the long way home when I'm in it. I read that the 997's were 80% redesigned - new and improved. I've heard that a certified porsche can't even have a door panel painted or it would not qualify. If you're a newbie, like me, I ... I'm looking at 2004-2006 Porsche 911 Cabs and my mechanic warned me that there have been several issues with the water cooled engines in the 996s (1999-2003). First, you should be aware that 2004 was the last year of the 996 design, not 2003. Supposedly, Porsche revised the rear main seal / crankcase design for the 997 model (2005+) but there have still been a few isolated reports of leaks. According ... Read More

Could you tell me where I could get a 911T (6-sp with few options) for $3k over invoice? You need to shop around and check out dealer inventories using Porsche's website. I've always liked the security of AWD and have owned many vehicles with it (Subarus, Murano, etc.) so when Porsche advertised the new 2006 911 997 AWD (C4) I put my order in (8/26). I'd like to say that AWD gives better traction on ALL road surfaces. I think the "bottom line" is that ... Read More
Hi Car17, I'll try. Clearance will be your biggest enemy as the 911 doesn't have a lot of ground clearance. I believe I've heard 4" of snow is about all it can deal with. I just got mine in November. I had it up on the Blue Ridge Parkway (western NC) the morning after they got some snow (4" or less I'd guess) but enough to make the roads slippery. The ... Read More
On the lease vs. buy, you need to do the economic analysis yourself - including tax implications. Porsche, unlike other manufacturers, is not giving away free money to help sell their products. Therefore, the "roughly" $5,000 down and $1,400 per month lease payment I was quoted for a 2006 Cab S would have worked out to $70,000 over a 4 year lease. I expect to take a hit on depreciation, but ... Read More
For what it's worth to anyone in this forum, I got close to $10k discount on my new 2005 Cab 2S in September. I had a 2006 on order for a $5k discount at the time, but elected to go with the 2005, given the price concession. It had several options I would not have ordered, bringing the MSRP up to $102,800. The 2006 on order had a MSRP of $101.5k ... Read More
I've never purchased a Porsche before and am considering purchasing 2 next year - a Cayenne S for my wife (waiting for the 2007 model due out Spring 2006) and a C4 or C4S Coupe for myself. Doese Porsche do any discounting on its newer cars, or do I need to wait for the new body styles to have been on the market for a while? If so, how long? I ... Read More
I would agree with points made by Don and bsumner - as might be expected from someone who bought a new 997 himself. However, in the spirit of fairness, I happen to know someone who has a 2001 911 Turbo Coupe with 11,000 miles that he will be selling to get a 997 Turbo, when they are available. He is a longtime Porsche enthusiast - still owns a 356 - and ... Read More
I'll give my opinion based upon the options I have on my car. However, with the price of Porsche options, everyone needs to determine what is important to them, and it can be very subjective. My car: 2005 997S Cabriolet - In addition to the base model standard features, the "S" adds as standard equipment the Xenons ($1,090), PASM ($1,990), 19" wheels ($1,550), sport steering wheel ($250). If you are planning ... Read More
I have waited exactly 100 days from order date until today. I will be picking up my new 2006 C2S today. Everyone here in California has a silver or a black Porsche Cab, so.... I ordered a white coupe with a sand beige interior & packed options, except I stayed away from the extra electronics. Sports Chrono, Nav etc. Everything I have read over the last year says this car is ... Read More
This is a timely link as we're discussing the virtues of the 2 vs. the 4's all-wheel drive. I loved the Edmunds First Drive article, this is another view. http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/mlf/06carrera4.htm Enjoy, Don
See: http://www22.porsche.com/all/tothepowerof4/pcna.asp The Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S both have the wide body--the 4wd implementations generally add the same new features to each. The already existing distinctions between the "straight" Carrera and Carrera S follow through to the "4" models.
Hello everybody, The dealer informed me yesterday at 4:30 PM Pacific time that my Porsche 911S 2006 just came out of the truck, can't wait to go and get it today. Let you know how it is...... :) :) :) :) :)
nattyb, I'll repeat the disclosure that I do not personally own a 911 (yet), but have researching the heck out of it and picking the brain of several friends and associates with Porsche 911 experience. We live in the DC and have a second home in PA. I have been advised against the AWD system in the non-turbo versions of the 911, for the reasons listed in my post above: added ... Read More
New article at Edmunds.com: First Drive: 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S
Actually, this is what happened. As my name (s4to911) implies, I have owned a 2001 Audi S4 for five years. I went to my local Audi/Porsche dealer about six weeks ago looking at some 2005 S4 Cabs (I wanted a convertible) and there was a Midnight Blue/Sand Beige 2005 911 S Cab on the lot (with navigation, Bose, heated seats, power seats, full leather, Sport Chrono, 19 inch Carrera Classic wheels, ... Boxster S--fantastic car, tossable, planted, more power now than in previous years. 911 S Cab--fantastic blow you away car. I bought my 2005 911 S Cab about one month ago (Midnight Blue/Sand Beige, no options except Bose sound upgrade, Navigation, heated seats, metallic paint) and I have not stopped wondering in amazement how I got hold of this beast. I think that there is nowhere else to go in terms of ... Read More
Two new Corvettes lost to an Aston Martin DBR9 at Sebring. Is GM going home? Nope. Does Panoz go home after getting beaten by many Porsche 911s in the American Le Mans Series? Nope. In fact, they are going to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. According to a recent issue of Motor Trend, the 2006 Esperante will use some carbon fiber for its chassis which will drop an ... Read More
1) Fiberglass weighs less than metals and is more resistant to dents. 2) Not to be rude, but do you have facts to support your assumption that Ferrari and Porsche owners won't consider the 2006 Corvette Z06? 3) Has no record in international racing? The Corvette doesn't have the racing heritage of a 911, but Porsche doesn't back the new 997 in racing. The following is from Corvettemuseum.com "[On July 10th, ... Read More
