Re: Chinks in the armor? [lemmer]
On a whim, decided to re-visit some old threads. Forgot about how much fun this one was. But now that both the GT-R and 911 are almost completely sold out of 2009 models and updating for 2010, I thought it would be nice to recap what happened with this competition to now. We spent a lot of time talking about speed. There seemed to be some confusion between speed and racing ... Read More...

'Value' mathmatics 101 [jfjr]
For what they cost and how they perform, a Porsche is not good value. I've driven many and am not impressed Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just as are those qualitative factors that individual consumers choose as their priorities (or not!). By the way I drive a CTS-V and will be getting a 2009 one in the fall. How ironic is it that you mention that you're buying ... Read More...
Re: Bluetooth [diro1]
Regarding your questions #1 & #6, my 2006 911 is GT silver with black interior. I saw a silver with tan interior when I bought mine a couple of months ago. The're out there, but black on black has been very popular for awhile. I don't know why. I believe PSM is standard on all 911's. Don't know if it was available on pre 997's. PASM is an option on the base 911 and standard ... Read More...
Re: 911 Engines and Advice for 1st time buyer [porsche4me2]
I'm looking at 2004-2006 Porsche 911 Cabs and my mechanic warned me that there have been several issues with the water cooled engines in the 996s (1999-2003). First, you should be aware that 2004 was the last year of the 996 design, not 2003. Supposedly, Porsche revised the rear main seal / crankcase design for the 997 model (2005+) but there have still been a few ... Read More...
911 Engines and Advice for 1st time buyer
I'm looking at 2004-2006 Porsche 911 Cabs and my mechanic warned me that there have been several issues with the water cooled engines in the 996s (1999-2003). Has anyone else heard of those issues? Have they been addressed in the 2004 (and newer) models? He thinks the the '95-98's have excellent engines but ideally I'd like the newer body style. This is my first ... Read More...
Re: Porsche 911 Engines [porsche4me2]
Hello, The Porsche 996 in 1999 had an engine casting problem. Porsche has replacment many of these engines. Some have a rear main seal (RMS) leak but Porsche has also replaced these seals at now cost. I just bought a 2004 911 Turbo Cab and it is impressive. As with any series of cars (such as 996; 1999-2004) you are always better off buying the last year. Read More...

Made the mistake....
of just trying a Porsche for fit. Now I'm a tall guy, and even taller from the hips up - like someone 6'8". I've owned Mazda's as sports cars, the last a 2004 RX8 I got new for just $24K - my daughter shifts it now as her daily driver - now with almost 70K miles on it. Bought the RX8 mainly b/c I fit in it - no other sports car allowed it at that time - I didn't want a convertable ... Read More...
Re: New or Used Porsche??? What to do??? Kids too! [habitat1]
Thanks so much to everyone so far for the advice. I am so torn about the car. I feel like buying the full size Range Rover is so much more logical. On the other hand, I really want to get the Porsche. Ironically, my wife thinks I am being ridiculous. She says just buy the Porsche. The price is an obstacle for me. I buy my cars outright and I have a hard time with going over ... Read More...

Changed??
Greetings: Virtually unchanged in 40 years? Side by side there is no comparison structurally or functionally between a 1965 911 and a 2008 C2S. A water cooled engine should be the first clue. Check out a 2004 996 and a 2005 997... quite different machine. Porsches' motto has always been " Evolution not Revolution ". 60 some years of racing experience and a hugely ... Read More...
