Re: I need average maintenance cost for 911 1999-02 [jvalencia]

I'm new to the forum today, so may have missed some of the replies. Buying any used car, you should get as much information as possible. PIP (diagnostics readout), service history and CarFax are very helpful in getting to know the car's history. I bought a 2003 Cabriolet last year from a Porsche dealer. Paid a little extra, but received the benefit of an extended ... Read More...

Re: 911 Engines and Advice for 1st time buyer [porsche4me2]

I'm looking at 2004-2006 Porsche 911 Cabs and my mechanic warned me that there have been several issues with the water cooled engines in the 996s (1999-2003). First, you should be aware that 2004 was the last year of the 996 design, not 2003. Supposedly, Porsche revised the rear main seal / crankcase design for the 997 model (2005+) but there have still been a few ... Read More...

911 Engines and Advice for 1st time buyer

I'm looking at 2004-2006 Porsche 911 Cabs and my mechanic warned me that there have been several issues with the water cooled engines in the 996s (1999-2003). Has anyone else heard of those issues? Have they been addressed in the 2004 (and newer) models? He thinks the the '95-98's have excellent engines but ideally I'd like the newer body style. This is my first ... Read More...

Porsche 911 Tires and Wheels

Re: tire wear [chile96]

I bought my first Porsche, a 2003 911 Cab in June in Denver. It was in immaculate shape with 8600 miles. I now have 12,500, including the 1200 cross-country drive home. My right rear went flat yesterday, and would not take air. After removing it to put on the spare, I was shocked that the inside shoulder was worn down to the air, and the sidewall had broken down, fortunately ... Read More...

Which Porsche to buy

Re: 993 vs 996? [bullethead]

With all due respect to fedlawman, I think he is being excessively harsh on the 996. While it is true that many long time "enthusiasts" prefer the 993 to the 996, a big part of the resale value equation is supply and demand. I don't have the actual production numbers handy, but at the time they introduced the 996, Porsche also considerably ramped up production and ... Read More...

996 newbie to be needs advice

Greetings: I have sold my 2002 M3 convertible and my 2003 530i sedan so that the wife could get a Volvo XC-90 V8 for hauling around the kids and dogs...I am left with a mint 2000 Toyota Landcruiser and a void in my heart for a nice toy car... I am looking into the merits of a late model 1999-2003 911 Cabriolet (I believe the "version" is called the 996 in Porsche parlance). ... Read More...

Re: 2007 Turbo 911 [markgc4s]

The wikopedia link from habitat does a decent job of explaining DSG. You can also check out Audi's website. The big difference between SMG's and DSG's from "semi"-automatics like the Tiptronic, BMW's Steptronic and Mercedes Manu-matics is that the SMG's/DSG's are a hybrid manual transmission with an electonically operated clutch and shifter. There is no ... Read More...

Hey Mr. Car_Man, I'm looking at gently used 2003 911... Can you tell me what the going lease numbers are for 36 months at 15,000 miles per year? I am a traditional finance person, so leasing is a whole new ballgame to me. Care to assist so I don't get hammered? Thank you, Stacy Read More...
