Article Comments - 2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo
Re: Nothing is up. [habitat1]
No. My understanding > yours. What throne? I said just the Turbo has been owned. Which is real. There are consistent track times that show the Nissan can go around any track, up to and including the Nordschlieffe faster than the Turbo. And with the GT-R being as fast around a track as a GT2 at Buttonwillow on stock tires and no extra horsepower, there is no reason they ... Read More...
Re: Bluetooth [diro1]
Regarding your questions #1 & #6, my 2006 911 is GT silver with black interior. I saw a silver with tan interior when I bought mine a couple of months ago. The're out there, but black on black has been very popular for awhile. I don't know why. I believe PSM is standard on all 911's. Don't know if it was available on pre 997's. PASM is an option on the base 911 and standard ... Read More...
Re: Input Requested Re: Deals [habitat1]
Thank you. By the way, who is Danika Patrick? The rear 295/30/19 is a Michlin Pilot Sport put on by the Porsche dealer. After reading that thread you're in called Porsche 911 wheels and Tires, it sounds like the Michilen Pilots are far superior to the Pirelli's, or at least better. Are you sure the 295/30/19 Michlin's can be had for $475?? That was the price, quoted ... Read More...
Re: Need Help Finding A used 911 [dbarton7]
I think a Porsche 993 (last of the air-cooled cars) from 1993 to 1997 (or early 1998), non-turbo, no AWD, no tiptronic, would be ideal. These are rugged dependable cars. Stay away from 90-92 C2s. Of course, you will have to shop for the cleanest, lowest mileage car you can find, with excellent service records. Any car you find that is a "mystery" as to who owned it, ... Read More...
Re: The Focus [designman]
I thought Id be into a 997 this year but the older ones keep beckoning. I tell you one thing, if I come across the right 993 Turbo, I just might have a hard time turning it down. You need to meet my brother. He owns a pristine 1996 993 Turbo 4. And, I have to admit, it is both extraordinarily beautiful and a great embelishment of what Porsche is all about. It is a deep maroon ... Read More...
Re: OPtion Advice [amerikanisch]
I'll take a shot at a couple of your options, but before I do, I'll add my opinion that Porsche will NOT substantially increase the price of the Turbo for 2008, DSG or not. I have been called by my dealer asking if I would like to upgrade (I have a C2S Cab) Turns out that the demand here in the DC/Baltimore area is strong, but not way above demand. And, from what my dealer ... Read More...
Re: A downright bargain [dweiser]
Having some fun here habitat1 but that's the first time I've ever seen the words "bargain" and "Porsche" in the same sentence. Now, now, you have to retain the "compared to the 996 Turbo S" for the proper context. If I'm reading my old Kelly Blue Book correctly, 10 years ago, a 1997 911 Turbo S Coupe had an MSRP of $153,365. So, it may be relative, but in the past 10 years, ... Read More...

Re: it's a complex issue [Mr_Shiftright]
1) Fiberglass weighs less than metals and is more resistant to dents. 2) Not to be rude, but do you have facts to support your assumption that Ferrari and Porsche owners won't consider the 2006 Corvette Z06? 3) Has no record in international racing? The Corvette doesn't have the racing heritage of a 911, but Porsche doesn't back the new 997 in racing. The following ... Read More...
Cayman could and perhaps should be
death of the 911. Let's face it, a rear-engined-car is a bad idea. The once-wild 911 Turbo can be driven by a pimple-face 15-year-old with an automatic transmission! Notice how many racecars besides the 911 have a rear-mounted engines. The 2005 911 is still suffering from RMS leaks (rear main seal). This has been going on with water-cooled Porsche sports cars ... Death of the 911
xkss I agree that Cayman could be the seed of this possibility. The market is demanding increases in power. For the 911 this would seem to require bringing the engine forward. They just can't keep adding weight back there. And a 911 without a rear engine is not a 911. The more I think about the Cayman configuration, the more I think it is a test for the future "911". ...
