Article Comments - 2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo

Re: What's Up??? [bigmclargehuge]

I think you are the one that needs to stop "playing pretend". Or at least stop getting all of your excitement from reading about a car - GTR, GT2 or GT anything - from the bathroom throne. The performance numbers in the C&D article I scanned were substantially below Nissan's claims and "hyped" numbers. Was that a bad apple or lemon that they tested? You tell me - and ... Read More...

Re: 911 Questions - new v. used - help me please! [blckislandguy]

Heated seats? Again, they sound good to anyone in New England, but really how often are you going to be out in the car on a 15 degree day? I can easily pass on the $1900 (!) "sport exhaust", no one on this board seems to think much of the Boise option, and do I really want a "sports chrono" on the dash when my $200 runner's chrono watch will do just fine? The color coded seat ... Read More...

Re: Trip computer [buylow]

The lame excuse that the car history has "personal information" of the previous owner is a crock. I'm sure it can be printed out with only the VIN number identifying the car - I've seen such a printout myself. At 19k+ miles I'm only using about 3/4 quart per 3,000 miles. I think that's about average for a 997 model that was properly broken in. One quart per 750 miles ... Read More...

Re: Trip computer [habitat1]

Dealer said he couldn't give me the car history because it contains personal information of the seller. Didn't think to tell him to delete the personal information and give me the print out. He did look up th history and said the oil was changed and the break lines flushed when the car was sold to me at 13,400 miles. Let's see, 400 miles in a little over two months - it's ... Re: Article Comments - 2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo [speed6driver]

There's a certain degree of mystery and natural fascination with the GT-R because it's like a dream you can never quite remember. It's there, and then gone again leaving hints of the memory behind to piece together. The idea of a car becoming a methphor representing that mystery, surprise and dominance is the fun part. That is what sets the GT-R apart from the competition ... Read More...

Re: Not Applicable [thenebean]

Sorry if I came off snobbish. It is sometimes hard to convey a tone with a keyboard. I love the concept of the GT-R. I am ecstatic that we are finally getting one in the US. From early reports, the car is incredible and Nissan deserves a huge amount of respect for creating it. My favorite car I have ever owned was a 1995 300ZX. If I was to buy another early '90s sports car, ... Read More...

Re: Got Porsche? [thenebean]

but if you start looking at the product that is coming out now, versus vehicles from even just a couple of years ago, there is a huge difference in the interior quality, as well as the performance quality that they provide. This has nothing to do with the GTR vs. 911, but I have to side with redsoxgirl that Nissan has a lot of "baggage" and challenge your defencse of ... Read More...

Re: ? [240ka]

i cant imagine a car would feel less stable cornering at 50mph and more stable cornering at 80-120mph. The attributes I was referring to were "nimbleness" and "precision". Let's start with a test. Drive a Honda S2000, 350Z and Porsche Boxster back to bask. If you can't tell which one weighs 450 lbs more than the other two and think that the 350Z is just as tight, nimble ... Read More...

Re: ? [240ka]

Well, you certainly have worked yourself up to a frothy lather over the GT-R based upon the "many reviews" you have been reading. My guess is that you are somewhere between old enough to drive, but not old enough to afford a 350Z, let alone a GT-R and will have to continue to get your "fix" reading reviews rather than driving any of these cars. Nothing wrong with that, ... Read More...

Re: GTR [upstatedoc]

OMG, I can hear habitat's blood boiling all the way up here. No, no - one of my New Year's Resolutions is to keep my blood warm, but out of boiling temperature. ;) Seriously, my criticism of the GT-R isn't from feeling defensive about the Porsche in my garage. As I have pointed out numerous times, the $32k Honda S2000 is, IMO, a worthy competitor to the Boxster. And, ... Read More...
