I have a 2006 Pontiac Vibe 1.8L FWD, 117,790 miles. I bought it new and it has never had to have any work done. I started noticing a noise when I would start the car a few months back that would settle down after the car had started. Now my car will not start. When the ignition is turned, the starter makes a sound (whining) as though it is powering on, ... Read More

I own two Pontiac 2006 Vibe's. Transmission started shifting strange on one and check engine light came on. It is Code 2716. Now what do I do, go to the GM dealer and ask to fix PCM or go to Toyota and ask them? Seems since Pontiac is not manufactured any longer the GM dealer will not help. Please, what would be the best way to proceed? Thanks, TP

We drove to a goodyear where they tested the battery and said that it had a bad cell and they replaced it. After replacing the battery they tested the alternator and said it was also bad. Very satisfying purchasing experience, mostly because of Edmonds.com. Did all kinds of research, knew what I wanted in options, then narrowed it down to three manufacturers: Kia, Toyota, Pontiac. I found it really hard to buy a car when the dealers know you did your research and especially when you let them know you used Edmonds.com. You can find the GM cash rebate (as well as dealer inventory) on GMBUYPOWER.com. The GM cash rebate could be different in each geographic region. Cash rebate means you are going to pay for the car entirely (i.e. not financing through GMAC). Just purchased a 2006 Pontiac Vibe from DeMontrond in Houston, TX. Sales person is nice, I would go back to him in a heartbeat; but get the usual mean-looking, high pressure sales manager coming to stare-you-down treatment. While similar in size to the current Pontiac Vibe, the new model has a more slanted windshield and rear window. The service people at your dealership are true bozos if they think there is nothing wrong with brakes pulling to the right. Is there another dealer you could take it to? If your Vibe has ABS and you're not used to them, the popping noise may be the ABS activating. But they shouldn't activate during normal stopping. So there's also some sort of problem with that noise.

Both the Pontiac, and the Toyota web site mention the lower HP. Usually you see manufacturers raise HP not lower it. I know 4hp does not seem that much, just curious.
