Thanks both of you! I finally caved today..panic mode since my current vehicle goes to the insurance co in a few days. Drove a 2004 GLSTurbo Jetta wagon that was SWEET...almost got it ($$$13000/ 39000 miles)...BUT cannot pull a boat and heard VW Service is high cost$$$ as are the Jettas. So...ran back to the Pontiac dealer. There are almost ZERO '08 Matrix's here as well. I like the Vibe's design ... Read More

Toyota Matrix vs. Pontiac Vibe - Compare Notes

  • Self permission to buy

    Written by: wtd44 on Jun 14, 2008 4:24:05 PM

I do not recall what first caused me to be interested in the Vibe/Matrix, but when the near by Pontiac dealer had some 2009 AWD models arrive, I decided to check them out. Here in the Rocky Mountains, all wheel drive is a very valuable asset. I compared the Vibe and Matrix AWD "twins", and analyzed the deal available on each in my vicinity. The Vibe simply had the upper hand ... Read More

My parents were just in an accident in my mother's Pontiac Vibe. They hit a jackknifed tractor trailer and the airbags failed to deploy. My parents were not seriously injured. However, my father, a former body and fender mechanic, says that the front end is quite damaged and that the car is possibly totaled. Has anyone heard of airbags not deploying in such a serious accident? . Unfortunately I am not ... Read More

Looking to buy a GM Pontiac Vibe? DON’T! Go with your gut and buy a Toyota Matrix- same drivetrain and basically the same car but remember why GM cars suck so bad and have such a terrible reputation: reliability and customer service. My wife and I just traded in our 2004 Kia Sorrento for a smaller car with better gas mileage. We looked at Mazda 3 wagon (sporty but too small ... Read More

Here's the text of a "Press Release" I found somewhere else: "Pontiac will discontinue the GT and all-wheel-drive versions of the Vibe wagon after the 2006 model year due to sluggish sales of those models and changes in U.S. emissions standards that would have made them costly to redesign. Pontiac will continue to offer the base-model Vibe for the 2007 model year. It may bring back the GT and awd versions ... Read More

I would echo what another user said and bring it to GM ASAP. According to Cars.com, Pontiac offers a 3 yr/ 36K powertrain warranty on its vehicles (strangely, Toyota offers a 5 yr/ 60K on theirs, even though Matrix and Vibe are the same, powertrain-wise). I looked at a 2004 Matrix at a non-Toyota dealer, and the powertrain warranty was in effect. Also, if you look at a CarFax report, you'll ... Read More

Sounds like you have found a dealer who is hungry for a sale; driving over 400 miles roundtrip. If you have $3,000 in addition to the deal you mentionned, you have the deal of the century!! You have moved from the category of very good deal to incredible deal. I did not anticipate buying a GM car and stopped using my card very much a few years ago and collected Continental ... If I rest my arm on it for long period of time, sometime it hurts my shoulder. It's not padded. It is same hard plastic as old one but give me an extra little compartment which is between the cover and center storage. That is ... Read More

I have just discovered that my 1984 Dodge Ram Mini Van, with the 2.2L Chrysler 4 cylinder is the same thing, in all engineerings, as the New 2003, 2004, and 2005 Chrysler Vibe. All owners take note, mine is a Classic, Yours is updated, and mine was Registered Originally as an RV, of which Chrysler only made 75, and the Vibe is obviously built with endurance in mind, as mine was. ... i noticed something wierd about the 2004 vibe GT horsepower. its DOWN from 2003. in 03, it was rated at 180. this year, 2004, its 173. this is according to edmunds.com, pontiac's website, AND a 2004 Vibe GT i saw on a dealer's lot. now, oddly, the 2004 matrix XRS, same engine, has the full 180 horsepower, according to edmunds, and toyota's website. any ideas on why this is?
