Thanks both of you! I finally caved today..panic mode since my current vehicle goes to the insurance co in a few days. Drove a 2004 GLSTurbo Jetta wagon that was SWEET...almost got it ($$$13000/ 39000 miles)...BUT cannot pull a boat and heard VW Service is high cost$$$ as are the Jettas. So...ran back to the Pontiac dealer. There are almost ZERO '08 Matrix's here as well. I like the Vibe's design ... Read More
I do not recall what first caused me to be interested in the Vibe/Matrix, but when the near by Pontiac dealer had some 2009 AWD models arrive, I decided to check them out. Here in the Rocky Mountains, all wheel drive is a very valuable asset. I compared the Vibe and Matrix AWD "twins", and analyzed the deal available on each in my vicinity. The Vibe simply had the upper hand ... Read More
...so I did. I traded in my 2004 Jeep GC Laredo, paid cash for the spread, and now own an Ultra White AWD 2009 Pontiac Vibe. What have I done?
My parents were just in an accident in my mother's Pontiac Vibe. They hit a jackknifed tractor trailer and the airbags failed to deploy. My parents were not seriously injured. However, my father, a former body and fender mechanic, says that the front end is quite damaged and that the car is possibly totaled. Has anyone heard of airbags not deploying in such a serious accident? . Unfortunately I am not ... Read More
Looking to buy a GM Pontiac Vibe? DON’T! Go with your gut and buy a Toyota Matrix- same drivetrain and basically the same car but remember why GM cars suck so bad and have such a terrible reputation: reliability and customer service. My wife and I just traded in our 2004 Kia Sorrento for a smaller car with better gas mileage. We looked at Mazda 3 wagon (sporty but too small ... Read More
I am having a problem with the brake pedal popping and actually moving when coming to a stop. It has been back to the dealer 4 times and the pedal assembly was ordered to maybe fix this. After this next time they are not sure what to do next. Anyone else having or had this problem?
Here's the text of a "Press Release" I found somewhere else: "Pontiac will discontinue the GT and all-wheel-drive versions of the Vibe wagon after the 2006 model year due to sluggish sales of those models and changes in U.S. emissions standards that would have made them costly to redesign. Pontiac will continue to offer the base-model Vibe for the 2007 model year. It may bring back the GT and awd versions ... Read More
I would echo what another user said and bring it to GM ASAP. According to Cars.com, Pontiac offers a 3 yr/ 36K powertrain warranty on its vehicles (strangely, Toyota offers a 5 yr/ 60K on theirs, even though Matrix and Vibe are the same, powertrain-wise). I looked at a 2004 Matrix at a non-Toyota dealer, and the powertrain warranty was in effect. Also, if you look at a CarFax report, you'll ... Read More
Sounds like you have found a dealer who is hungry for a sale; driving over 400 miles roundtrip. If you have $3,000 in addition to the deal you mentionned, you have the deal of the century!! You have moved from the category of very good deal to incredible deal. I did not anticipate buying a GM car and stopped using my card very much a few years ago and collected Continental ... Read More
Hi Tawney, To me it worth every penny I spend because I am 6’3’’. The old armrest is useless to me because it is too low. If I rest my arm on it for long period of time, sometime it hurts my shoulder. It's not padded. It is same hard plastic as old one but give me an extra little compartment which is between the cover and center storage. That is ... Read More
Is there any difference between the 2004 and the 2005 Pontiac Vibe.
Is there any difference between a 2004 and a 2005 Pontiac Vibe? Looking at a 2005 but discovered a new 2004 about 150 miles away but dealer will only offer rebates and no discount of his own. Maybe that's why he still has it.
I have just discovered that my 1984 Dodge Ram Mini Van, with the 2.2L Chrysler 4 cylinder is the same thing, in all engineerings, as the New 2003, 2004, and 2005 Chrysler Vibe. All owners take note, mine is a Classic, Yours is updated, and mine was Registered Originally as an RV, of which Chrysler only made 75, and the Vibe is obviously built with endurance in mind, as mine was. ... i am thinking about purchasing a 2004 pontiac vibe for my son. the sound system sounds kind of weak. what is the best system to get as an option? do any of the 2004's have an integrated subwoofer like the 2005 models? if they do, which sound system options include the subwoofer?
According to Yahoo Autos: Toyota Matrix powertrain warranty is 5 years / 60,000 miles: http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/toyota_matrix_standard4x2_2005/149- - - 80/style_warranty.html Pontiac Vibe powertrain warranty is 3 years / 36,000 miles: http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/pontiac_vibe_base_2004/12536/style- - - _warranty.html
I'm on a 24 hour GM "test" of a 2004 Vibe GT - which has the perfect options for me. My only incentive to get this now versus later versus a Matrix is the GM $3000 back. My current 2001 Altima SE's back seat is to small for my older son which is why I'm looking. My first impression is I generally like the car - It's roomy and comfortable for ... Read More
We're expending a lot of ink on this. Good thing it's virtual... "So, Mathais [sic] if you post YOUR opinion on a public forum, we are not to question the validity of your position? Why not?" I post MY opinion because it is the only opinion I got. If you want to question its validity, go right ahead. I'd love to hear how tying down cargo is, after all, possible and ... Read More
"Whether it suits my exact needs, or yours, or your uncle Dudley's isn't a big deal. I personally feel that the car is designed for form over function. You can argue this if you feel like it. What you shouldn't do is ask patronizing questions. The Vibe is a good car. It isn't a great car because it is too noisy, the driving position is weird, and the roof rack isn't ... Read More
I am going through the same thing with my 2004 Vibe. Pontiac would do nothing for me, said the smell is a "characteristic of the Vibe" and told me to call the BBB Auto Line. I have done that and I am going to have to go to a arbitration on my car because GM still will not take care of it. It is a major problem that they need to ... Read More
Jim, our new 2004 Pontiac Vibe has been driven 985 miles. So far, no sulfer smell. However, both my 2000 Mazda Proteges had the smell of rotten eggs from time to time this winter. I would get out of the car after parking and catch a whiff of the Protege's tail pipe emissions and grimace. Prolly the infamous winter gasoline. Happened one or twice a week. Never caused me to stress ... Read More

I purchased a new Vibe for my wife, yesterday. We tried the Mazda3 Hatchback. Sharp looking wagon, excellent handling and tasteful interior styling! However, the 3 felt too confining, didn't have the mini-van like driving position she prefers and I've never been crazy about buying any car in it's first year of production. Also, checked out the Subie Forester. The sales staff was too busy joking around to pay much attention ... Read More
I have a White Vibe GT. I have a real concern over the paint, or lack of as it seems. It seems it has a problem with "ROAD RESIDUE" as the dealership tells me and my husband. We have to wash it to get the small black like dust off of the car and in certain areas the dealership has given us rubbing compound the clean it with. Is this a ... Read More

Thank you for the response, Stuart. I've checked my 2004 Pontiac Vibe Owners Manual, nothing about timing belt/chain replacement intervals. So I suspected a chain. -Larry
has the timing chain or a timing belt? Also, is the 1.8l 4cyl in the 2004 Pontiac Vibe a interference or non-interference engine? Thank you in advance for any response. :-) -Larry
i noticed something wierd about the 2004 vibe GT horsepower. its DOWN from 2003. in 03, it was rated at 180. this year, 2004, its 173. this is according to edmunds.com, pontiac's website, AND a 2004 Vibe GT i saw on a dealer's lot. now, oddly, the 2004 matrix XRS, same engine, has the full 180 horsepower, according to edmunds, and toyota's website. any ideas on why this is?
hudrahead: I can't get the 2004's to come up on the GMbuypower web site. But the 2003's show up: one dealer has 33 in stock! Now on to my test drive experience: One of the things I like about these Town Hall forums is reading about other peoples experiences in owning and test driving cars. This has really helped me narrow down my choices as I decide to buy a new ... Read More
My wife and I just picked up our brand new 2003 Vibe this past Thursday afternoon and we love it. We bought the base Vibe 4-speed auto in monotone Neptune and Graphite, all power with Moon & Tunes, 4-wheel ABS, and 16" alum wheels. We got a good deal on this car as it was on the dealer lot and they are already starting to get in some 2004 cars and ... Read More
Our only 3 Pontiac dealers have around 5 to 10 Vibes allocated on each lot. There are around 30 Vibes (Base/GT models combined) ready for immediate delivery. Wife & I are very interested in the new Vibe. We were also eagerly waiting for the Opel Astra 2004 Cavalier replacement, but the new Saturn ION (Which is based on the new Delta platform to be shared with the upcoming Cavalier replacement) is ... Pontiac finally updated their website....it still sucks, but I managed to find the specs for the Vibe: http://www.pontiac.com/vibe/iepopper_specs.html I'm pissed. The Vibe AWD is a completely different option package than the base and GT versions. It only comes with the 130 hp engine and a 4 speed auto! Looks like I'm scratching the vibe off my list. I would have sprung for an AWD GT in a second....6 speed, 180 hp, ... Read More
